If my cake tin is 8inch do I buy an 8inch kit or a 7inch kit and cut my 8inch cake down to a 7inch

No a 9 inch I believe

Buy 8” and cut your cake down to a 7” or 7.5” if you don’t wanna use the foam insert. Some people say that the frosting is too thick with the foam inset
