    Thank you for this! My partner was admitted into the hospital with FKA just last night. I was a bit overwhelmed and only sort of understood....I am not in the medical field at all. Your video made it a lot easier to understand.

    After 3 years of nursing school and 29834623874023472037420397482374023740237402374 topics on DKA, this was the ONLY one that helped me truly understand wtf DKA is.

    Also when the doctor prescribes insulin drip, the nurse taking care of the DKA patient should notice the patient's serum K level. If it is too low, we must inform the doctor before giving the insulin drip. Otherwise, insulin will draw not only glucose but also K into cells from bloodstream, which further lowers the patient's serum K level!

    Nice video, my mother is suffering from diabetes from last two years. One of my friend suggested me to use Freestyle Libre sensor and Ambrosia Blucon to check her sugar values on phone. Also, their app update us in every 5 minutes when my mother glucose level goes high or Low. My doctor is also follow her glucose values through Ambrosia Followblucon app. According to me it is the best product. Thanks!

    What if your body expelled excess water via vomiting instead of through the kidneys,, Would you still have an out of range potassium or would it just be low.Also, what happens if you suffer with high ketones for extended periods and live, what kind of symptoms or damage would we expect, other than death. What happens if you treat DKA as deuydration?

  • @ThatClinicalInstructor
    @ThatClinicalInstructor 3 года назад

    Absolutely fantastic video! This is a great account of DKA. I do have a question, however. While I know from nursing school that polyphagia is one of the signs of DKA, typically my patients present with vomiting (often intractable!) instead. At what point does the patient go from excessive hunger to excessive vomiting? What is the pathophys behind that? Thanks MINT!

    • @erwan_rn
      @erwan_rn 8 месяцев назад

      Due to altered brain function causes nausea and vomiting, remember also high ketones is acidic in nature causes more gastrointestinal disturbances.
