  • Our animated video covers one of the most important complications of diabetes: diabetic ketoacidosis. Diabetic ketoacidosis results from an effective absence of insulin's action in the body. It is a dangerous and often life-threatening condition that requires medical attention. To understand how this happens in diabetics it is important to recognize the the actions of the liver, pancreas and the body's hormone system. We use animation to tackle this complicated subject. Understanding why DKA happens is an essential part of diabetic education for any patient with Type 1, and even Type 2 diabetes. Written by endocrinologist Dr. Christopher Palmeiro D.O. MSc., and directed by Doctablet.

      High ketone levels aren't a problem -- you will pee and breathe out excess ketones.
      The problem is when you don't have enough insulin -- in that case, too many ketones are able to build up in cells instead of being properly regulated.
      In other words, ketones are a "good thing."
      It's just that when you don't have enough insulin, your cells get "too much of a good thing."

      @Doctablet  2 года назад

      Thanks for watching! This range would be considered elevated according to the ADA. Target post-prandial is < 180

      Too high.
      Ideal fasting glucose = 65 to 85
      He's eating way too many carbs if he's at 180.
      Current recommended levels are too high; you'll never reverse diabetes if you stay at recommended levels.
      Keep the total daily carbs down below 20g to reverse his diabetes.
      I'm happy to answer questions or address concerns.
