I have nearly 1700 hours and have landed left of center countless times. Unless I was way left, I didn't pay too much attention to it and didn't even notice how often I was doing it until I watched my own videos. Now I know why. Thanks Jason. I heard once an instructor say, "If I come to the airport and find you dead, you better be laying on the center line!" 🙂
Excellent advice
All I thought the wind was kicking me to the left. Now I know why. Thanks Jason for your safety classes.
29 for 29 WOW what a Great Series, thank you to MzeroA, Jason, and Magda you guys are Amazing BLESSINGS to to the Aviation World ✈️✈️✈️✈️Great Videos ❤
29 for 29. Another great video. I’ve enjoyed the 31 day challenge immensely.
29 for 29! Roger That! Thanks Jason !
29 for 29. Great tips here! Thanks for your videos Jason.
I was taught by a high time Army pilot to put the center line (taxi or on runway) between my left and right eyeball. It makes it a snap to stay centered instead of judging offset, which is never much as pilot/co-pilot seats are always not far from center regardless of aircraft. Using that method, I stay centered easily and live by the phrase "the centerline is reserved for professionals".
29 for 29... Great tip. You need to be very aware of arms and legs at all times.
29 for 29. Ive been left of centerline, even now. Yup, i have lazy foot syndrome in Xwind landing. Ever since joining centerline anonymous, my adherence to centerline has improved. 😊 Better than i used to be.
29 of 29, it’s definitely easy to get lazy when your wrapped up with the back pressure. Thanks for another great video Jason!
29 of 29, when started flying a tail dragged it forced me to pay more attention to the rudder which helped with this. Though to be fair, most of the time there’s gusty cross winds that I was just happy to be on the runway. 😊
Late 29 for 29, great info, I remember my CFI saying you just don’t want to land in the middle do you. Not that I didn’t want to. Now I know how!!
29/29! Left of center is my nemesis!
Finally. An excuse to tell people I'm a (student) pilot and why I skip half a leg day.
29/29, great advice to put in use while always practicing for the perfect landing training.
29 for 29. Sorry I haven’t commented before but I usually watch it on my big screen. Love the content best CFI around. Clear skies
I always landed left of center during my first 50 hours...then i realized i was succumbing to the habit of driving a car on the left side of the road!! After that..the problem was fixed.
29 for 29! Thanks Jason!
29 of 29 😇👌👍Very Good Informative Video Sir Cheers 🍻🍻
29 for 29! Starting on my right leg squats now! Hope I don’t get stuck walking in circles! Great video!!
29 for 29!
Great stuff!
29/29. Bringing it in to land this course, hopefully I'm left of center on the training. Thanks Jason.,
29 of 29, and guilty as charged. Definitely could focus a little more on my footwork during transition.
Im PPL checkride is coming soon, and I'm SOOOO STRESSED .😝 but all your videos are helping me a lot, I feel confident. Thank you.
great tip!
29 FOXTROT 29 love your series!
29 for 29
Flying in the TMG helped me a lot to make better my foot work. Before that, I was "lazy" on the pedals
Yesterday, flew for the first time after viewing this video, making two landings, one on an instrument approach, the other on a pattern. I was very conscious about not getting lazy on the rudders during touch down, and adding enough right rudder to counteract left-turning tendencies. And what do you know? Not only did I land on the center line, but the touch down was much smoother than normal because I didn't land in a crab. Thank you, Jason!!
29 for 29! I tend to almost always land left of centerline. Last time I was flying with a CFI, he commented on it and I told him without pause "yeah, I thought I was leading a formation flight and was leaving room on the right for my wingman." He laughed, but I don't think he believed me. 😂
29 for 29! Thank You!
Hahaha! The title made me lol for real. That is me!!
Now time to watch this vid..
29 for 29 Jason, can't wait to try this!!!
During my ME check ride I kept landing to the left of centerline. The FAA DE (who was a great guy, btw) finally asked me “do you know what that line down the middle of the runway is for?” I responded “Yes, it separates the active half of the runway from the spare half!” He never bothered me again 😂 (I passed, btw👍).
29-29 Back on track, and center line!
29 for 29: This right here is why the 31 day SPC is my favorite month in my aviation calendar (Which starts at the completion of my annual). I have been pretty consistent with landing left of center. I just thought it was my aim point and where my eyes were focused. Now I have a plan of action on how to fix this issue. Thank you Jason and the MzeroA team.
29:29, glad to see another one that will help for solo prep :)
29 of 29. This is one I will watch several times. Thank you Jason
29 for 29 - Awesome stuff MzeroA!
I’m a student. Happens to me all the time. Thanks for the tip!
29/29 makes sense . Another great video.
29/29 love the tip on this , thanks
29/29! Thank you!
29/29! Thanks again Jason!
29 FM 29 West Oz…. Got some weird looks in the gym tonight 😅
29 for 29, good reminder Jason
29/29 ugh, great info as I do consistently and up left of center.
Thanks JS
29/29. Much needed info for me to hear.
29 for 29, thanks Jason! Like so many other things in flying, when we know the “why” we can work on correcting it. I’ll watch closer for this in my landings. I can still hear my instructor’s voice saying “wake up those feet” 😊
29 of 29. Good points!! Thanks Jason!
Awesome program keep it up!
29/29. I have never landed left of center (liar, liar). I have nearly 1200 hours but I guess I still need more practice. Thanks for the tips.
29/29. I told my CFI to make an ink stamp saying "more right rudder" to put on my right hand and other students
29-29. I've been taught to use yoke to keep plane on centerline and pedals to keep it in line. This helps me a lot with more controlled crosswind landings.
29/29, Thanks again
Fly a taildragger. Piper Cub will help in every situation.
29-4-29🎉🎉 always landed left of the centerline and now I know why
29 for 29!
Mental note made…More Right Leg Stuff at the Gym!! 😂
Always Great Content!!
Thank You!!!
ET
29 of 29. Thanks for that tip!
29/29. Thanks Jason for this.
I have just arrived from my flight on the CFI course and guess what!? Left from the center line. Thanks for the heads up!
29/29 I usually fly off of our grass strip so I have to visualize a centerline, but when I do fly at regular airports, I know exactly what you mean. I have to learn to keep that centerline on my right shoulder. Thanks for another great video Jason.
29/29 Thank you
Same here- always on the left
29/29.. and yes!
29/29. Great information!
29/29 from British Columbia Canada!
I teach slow flight down the runway often. It really helps. Also: get some tailwheel time so you can learn what those funny pedals on the floor actually do :)
29 for 29 great tip thanks for sharing!!
29/29, thanks Jason
29/29. I try not to land on the center line to save the runway paint. At least, that's what I tell everyone. Learned on a Cherokee 235 and have to say that I didn't get much rudder training.
29 for 29. I tend to cross the threshold left of centerline and now I will remember how to correct it. Thank you Jason!
29 of 29. I seem to have the opposite problem, I seem to land right of centerline. But I know I have to work on better rudder control.
DrNathan23 is 29 for 29! Great video once again.
29 4 29 Great guidance
29 for 29 here. I’m just beginning to finally get my landings. They’re not perfect, but my instructor no longer hovers over the flight yoke or rudder when I’m landing. I learned early on not to be lazy with my feet on landing in order to maintain directional control.
I was thinking about how I was landing left yesterday...
But I was definitely working the rudder. I was also at my personal crosswind limits (still a student) 😂
29 for 29! 😊 Great tips on maintaining the rwy centerline after touchdown. I think that most of us had that left-drift issue on touchdown in our early flight training hours. I would forget that the torque effect on my airplane increases as my airspeed decreases, necessitating the need to increase right rudder pressure and maintain that pressure through touchdown. I was pretty chirpy once I could maintain the centerline during rollout. YaHooooooo!
29 for 29 - I learned somewhere with frequent gusty wind and I think that primacy helps my landings even now
I usually landed left of center because I always tried to land with my propeller lined up on the center line. However given I look at that from the left side there was a parallax in my view of the center line. I always was very close but always also just to the left of the center line. Don't fly anymore but it really is something that I even really got corrected the entire time I was flying. Never gave me many problems. Not even on very narrow runways that I often flew onto. I suspect that is because I was always consistently just a bit to the left.
29 for 29 Thanks for the tip, ill try it the next time.
29 for 29. My flight instructor used to call me "lefty". Lots of practice made it much better.
29 for 29! Gee, I always wanted to think that those people were born in England... because they operate cars left of center. :-) One could also practice right leg presses by being in the WIND in WYOMING and LEANING into the wind, keeping the wind on your left side. :-) 🙂 Note that glider runways, if paved, seem to be very narrow. At Owl Canyon Gliderport, Colorado, 4CO2, the 2000'
paved runway is 20' wide. Stay on the centerline! What more could you need/want?
Jason, by any chance have you been watching the GoPros of my flights that I post on Facebook?
I joke, but seriously, I do post them, and had my hand waving high in the air in response to your question about landing left of center line.
I've had instructors give advice about how to line up, but no one ever explained WHY there is that left of center line tendency.
So, your explanation about pilots focusing on the transition and disregarding the footwork and the need to counteract left-turning tendencies with more right rudder was a revelation! Makes so much sense, and I can't wait for my planned flight tomorrow to put it into practice! Thanks, Jason, for a truly invaluable suggestion and explanation!
29 4 29 thanks, need to think about my feet more on landing!
29/4/29 N177VC After 1104 hours and 1642 landings (ForeFlight report!) I still tend to land left. I’m focused on holding off and smooth landing. I aim right of center to offset! . Apparently I need to bring my right foot into the picture! 😊
29 for 29 During my training I had this problem and my instructor had me do low passes to hold centerline and that did the trick. I occasionally still do these just to keep the practice of my footwork as a low pass takes a lot of footwork
29 of 29 going for it
A simple for a common problm. I am 29 for 29 I work nights starting at 5pm estern.
29 for 29, great advice…we all get too engrossed with other things on final landing: Respect the Rudder my CFI keeps saying😂
29 for 29. One of my original instructors taught me to try to have the centerline under my seat. Everytime since then, I generally land pretty close to dead center. Still, some days are better than others. I do think I could use more time doing slow flight over the runway to make things even better.
🙋🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️ Guilty. Will work on it. 29/29🤜🏼🤛🏼
Twenty-nine for twenty-nine! Going to the gym this morning and can't wait to hit only my right leg
29/29. I’ve landed left of center (more times than I care to count). I found that my cross wind landings were more centered than my no wind or “straight down the runway wind” landings were. This is because with the cross wind you have no choice but to keep the rudder engaged, and therefore your feet.
29/29 good tip
29 for 29 - I was a left of center. My CFI, basically said the same thing. "more right rudder!". The struggle is real.
29\29, 2 2 go!
29 for 29! I've actually been landing slightly right of centerline recently ..mainly due to random light surface crosswinds from the left and finding it tough to correct. Flying SLSA aircraft and even a light 4 to 5kt crosswind can push during transition when it's too late to crab and it's low wing so I can't really slip much without fear of a wing strike. On approach I have almost zero crab needed to stay lined up. Then during transition I catch a little breeze sometimes. It might be minor (3-5ft right) but still frustrating because I want my nosewheel on the centerline.
29/29. And yes I have landed left of center.
29 of 29! Favorite CFI phrase: You tried landing below the center line = a really hard landing... enjoy...
OK here I am 29 4 29! Almost there!
29 for 29. I always try to use the rudder for directional control; ailerons keep me on the line and pedals keep me lined up.
Right legged squats? LOL!!! Gotta admit...that was funny!
