I wish Disney would make a concentrated effort to update all their old Disney animated & live action classics (up through Jungle Book) to 4K discs. They only just announced that they’re working on Snow White now.

@@josepha5146 Exactly. There was such a magic in the films that Walt worked on, but it feels like management at Disney intentionally de-emphasizes those classics in favor of their latest projects.
But I commend them for stating intentions to pivot to physical media again. Up until a few weeks ago, their position was that they’d only focus on Disney+ with no intention to upscale & re-release the classics on 4K discs.

I wish Disney would make a concentrated effort in lowering their admission prices to their parks. Just doesn't leave a chance for low income people to one day take their children before they grow up. It's a shame. Walt Disney would've been disappointed on how they are concentrating only on greed. It heavily mars Walt Disneys creations.

@@oldschoolfunkster1 I sympathize with parents who struggle financially and/or live far away from a Disney theme park. While a premium trip to Walt Disney World with all the meals, snacks, souvenirs, official hotels, wristbands, etc can cost a small fortune, it’s definitely do-able on a smaller budget. Disney have actually focused on keeping base entry tickets lower than they should be according to market demands while hoping that guests spend cash in other ways…
By using modern amenities like budget AirBNBs, an abundance of rideshare drivers, eating meals off-premises, off-peak-season/holiday prices (including airfare), etc… most parents should be able to budget for a few trips during their kids’ childhood years.
The big picture is that the population & attendance numbers continue to grow, but there’s still only one, ~100 acre Disneyland. The park was built during a unique & prosperous time in America’s history, but building such a park from scratch in a different state in 2023 takes incredible effort & probably unprofitable for many years. There are very few locations where Disney parks can stay open year-round, but I also wish every state had an affordable Disneyland nearby.
As a fundamental of economics, if costs of operation continue to rise with supply chain issues & inflation, Disney parks must increase revenue by raising prices on tickets, foods, products, etc. If market demands could be ignored & Disney were able to keep entry ticket prices at what they were decades ago (I.e. well below market price), a shortage of available tickets would result. The parks would be consistently over-crowded & unenjoyable with very long lines… if you’d be able to snag a ticket at all.

@@oldschoolfunkster1 truth be told, my hope lies with VR. We’re only a few years away from having affordable VR headsets with lifelike resolution, & fully accurate haptics available to everyone. It’ll be the best way to experience Disneyland… without all the lines, sweat, crowds, & prices of the “real” park. Talented fans including the RUclips channel “Defunctland” have already created excellent recreations of Disneyland, which I’ve played. I remember riding Pirates of the Caribbean & it’s already almost as good as the real ride… give it 5-10 more years & it’ll be incredible. VR will democratize entertainment to ALL the people! ✊

Animation nerd speaking, the reason this release is great from a grain standpoint is that this and The Little Mermaid are the only animated 4K titles thus far that were made with cells. From the very beginning of hand-drawn animation, the animators' drawings were traced onto cells (a plastic sheet) and painted from the backside and then photographed on a painted background under a film camera for 12 or 24 frames a second, depending on the animation. It was a time-consuming and expensive process that lasted from the 1910s to the 1990s. After Sleeping Beauty, the ink and paint department due to the film's disappointing box office and animated films from the 60s to the 80s used the Xerox process which used Xerox printers to copy drawings directly to cells and used toner to color, which saved time and money. The animators loved it as they got to see their drawings up on screen much better when they were hand traced on ink. Walt Disney didn't as he missed the look of the ink and paint films. As time went on the process improved, with some of the later films up to Fox and The Hound the coloring got better to the point of looking almost like ink and paint. Then with Black Cauldron to Littler Mermaid, the process was replaced with a more sophisticated process called the animation photo transfer process. After Mermaid Pixar created CAPS which provided digital coloring and a more seamless blending of hand-drawn with CGI as shown in the ballroom scene in Beauty and The Beast. So need to use film cameras was eliminated with CAPS, which itself would be replaced with Toonboom Harmony. So it's why animated films before Mermaid can be true 4K while post-Mermaid CAPS films use upscaling to meet 4K criteria.

I applaud Disney for making these classics still available even with racially and culturally insensitive content. Recognizing that these films are part of history and were made at a time when such things were socially acceptable. At no time should negative stereotypes and other racially and cultural offensive material been acceptable. It wasn't okay then and it isn't okay now. When you watch these classic films with their outdated racial and cultural references, you have to view them within an historical context and mind frame. Also I appreciate the technological upgrades that Disney has been making with these classic films as well.

I don't think grain is necessary to maintain on older animated movies... As a matter of fact when the film was completed I doubt there was any grain at all in those animation cells.. The only reason grain ends up being in the final product is when the animated movie is completed on film.. if that makes any sense.. this is one time when I think it's okay to apply DNR
