    Nice job. I love the condenser stand! Great use of cinder blocks!! Worst I 've seen was a hack job down in Miami at a gas station/convenience store, where the condensing unit was "mounted" on a plastic egg crate, no rain shield. Gotta love those unlicensed contractors!!

      Like your name says. I shift the decision making process to the customer. If they don't want to fix it or whatever else I recommend then it's all on them. It's all noted on the paperwork what I find and recommend. Everything's about noting it on the paperwork as a backup plan in case they try to shift blame to you too get out of paying.

      These were fairly new owners who had moved into the building maybe a year earlier. I don't know what it was used for prior to. So you can't blame them for the condition it's in, it didn't just happen in the last year. But yes the owner or the previous people that leased the building did not take very good care of it but that's not uncommon.

    Nooice , I hate leaving weak @rse wires in too .
    On the side note , I wish you guys would stop using refrigerant as a leak detection tool , we've been forbidden to do so for years now .
    We just switched to using Trace-a-gas , which is just a mix of 95% nitrogen with 5% hydrogen , then you either use a hydrogen detector or some newer leak detectors , like the one my employer provided , does detect both HFC , HFO and hydrogen , which is quite handy .
    And the great thing is , it doesn't cost that much more than regular nitrogen either .
    Last thing : Do you think Big Blue would have made it easier to pin point the leak ? At last I managed to find 1 supplier that imports it and it keeps blowing me away how sensitive it is , if you spay it with a steady bubble free stream .

    • @HVACRSurvival
      @HVACRSurvival  3 года назад +1

      Using a refrigerant a trace gas is still legal here. It's kind of like countries such as China that do whatever they want while we pay the big price to do it by the book. ( They were found in 2019 dumping CFC gas into the atmosphere LOL.) Big blue works great for a lot of things but in this scenario the pressure was so high that it just blew it right off and didn't bubble at all until I dropped the pressure down to about 10psig. That's why a lot of times they'll say start low and work your way up. I'm very impatient so I start high and work my way down LOL

    • @sterlingarcher46
      @sterlingarcher46 3 года назад +1

      @@HVACRSurvival yeah I know it's super frustrating to be treated like we're the bad guys when we know for a fact other countries couldn't give two sh*ts , but I keep telling myself that at least I can do my part to not add oil to the fire innit .
      Btw , because I know you're a tool enthousiast like I am , if you get the chance , it would be cool if you could review vaccum gauges and give tips on how to use them efficiently and how to properly maintain them .
      Thank you very much indeed Rick 🤜🤛

    Could your leak detector have been going nuts due to a humidity change? I have a auto reset fieldpiece and it will automatically reset so it’s not detecting the humidity. My old detector used to do the same if I stuck it near a cold coil or wet area. As in the first leak detector you used?

    • @HVACRSurvival
      @HVACRSurvival  3 года назад

      No, I haven't had any problems with Inficon on those types of false alarms. I had a ton of problems with the Fieldpiece detectors. I had both IR and Heated Diode and hated them both. They make good items but leak detectors are not one of them in my opinion.
