Lalah's voice is like an instrument, like a flute...can go very high and very low. Her scat almost sounds like a heavenly language! She says she got her gift from both her parents, what a gifted vocalist she truly is!!💖
Her voice is an art form into itself. I love her and her talent. She has one of the most beautiful lower register on a woman. I know Donny smiles when he hears his baby.
Knew her back in the days when she was a college student at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston. She was always ahead of the game. I'm glad people are finally recognizing this talent!!
The big problem here is that you unless you break it all down like this, you can almost miss just how unbelievably complex this is . . . BECAUSE she makes EVERYTHING sound so effortless. She literally makes it sound easy.
Let me just say I loved listening to Donny Hathway. You can definitely tell she got her musical gift from him but they are 2 musical geniuses in their own right and distinct yet complementary styles from one another. It is so amazing to hear a woman with such a deep rich tone and the ability to scat like nobody's business. When the title said polyphonic overtones, I could hardly believe it then BAM! My girl blew me away. This is such a rare talent and only a few can accomplish this. Lalah makes music sexy, fresh, lush, and fun. Our velvety vixen.
I love her voice sooo much! Think she and Mariah Carey has the best voices miss Hathaway scatting is like a language form that probably only other few singers like her can understand but to regular folks it sounds so good, and that polyphonic tone sounds eerie like a ghostly is appearing from somewhere. That’s amazing, she’s amazing.
A league of her own........she'll kill ALL the prime ones out ....hands down......sings smooth , effortlessly ....one of my favorites......love her ......
As a singer oh my God she sends chills is nothing else I can say oh God awesome voice instrument I have yet to see her in concert live when I do I don't think I'll be able to take it as a singer myself oh God they were only few that send chills throw me like that Lalah Ledisi Luciano Pavarotti Karen Clark Sheard Peabo Bryson Chris Sebastian
It has always been my thinking that Lalah Hathaway isn't at the top WHERE SHE SHOULD BE, because she didn't sell her soul to the Music Industry Demons. She does her own thing, and it's working for her. You gotta' know that for her it is not about the money but the music. SHE IS DEFINITELY A MUSICAL GENIUS!
Who says she is underrated she is one of the greats !!! She has an Unbelievable advanced poly harmonic voices means she she can sing two notes at the same time.
The sad thing is if you were to say to someone one of my favourite singer’s is Lalah Hathaway they would say Lalah who? She doesn’t get the promotion and recognition she deserves.
@@monilaninetynine3811 Yes, but she needs more promotion especially in the UK where I come from. People are missing out on her great voice. Unfortunately people follow who is a popular name and has made it into the media. They don’t think for themselves and explore various music. It’s sad but TRUE!
Could you do a video like this on a singer from Pentatonix named Scott Hoying’s voice as I am also a baritone and he’s my favourite singer. It would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Don't know if she had children. lalah is so secretive...been a fan of hers since day 1.. Musically ....but personally ...I'm 57 and still am not sure about her....all I know is donny....came up in his hey days....need to search more about her...yet those notes are not easy . you have to have the gift, and I do not see any artist today that has shown me this talent on RUclips...now that's a challenge......
Loved this! Keep making great content! I would appreciate if you didn't use enharmonic notes though. Don't put flats and sharps next to each other. Just say Gb and Eb, or F# and D#.
Yep! By the way, some will disagree with me, but I'm pretty certain Lalah is just a lower mezzo. Her voice is brighter, less rich and higher than even a high contralto.
Hello my name is Matias Couselo and I can also make polyphonic notes but I do not understand if it is something good or bad, it would be good to have opinions. @
This Lady is such a mixed bag of musicality. U can hear Donny Hathaway Nancy Wilson Sarah Vaughn Ella Fitzgerald all played a part in her upbringing. It's rooted in the vintage but agile and youthful like her pops. She singing circles around everybody smh
No, I understand what she means. My response would be.. she was young and technically a new artist in the 90s she was singing what people wanted to hear then. Finding herself vocally Now she sings what she wants and make people like it. This lady aint fresh no more. Her voice has evolved. This ain't the same Lalah from the 90s. You'd have to be a fan to recognize she's better. I still jam those 90s hits but have you heard her effortlessly belt them joints recently live?🤯 Chile I'd take this lalah anyday! Iconic. She has the range. She chooses to use it the way she wants now. This is gold
Kaneslove I can’t lie though when she performed her daddy’s song “Song For You” on the Apollo, her tone was so rich and had feeling. Then I seen her on this black guy’s RUclips channel where he has a lot of singers come and sing songs from words he picks. She sung in this higher range and I was shock bc I didn’t think she could do that or did that. So you right she sings what she wants now. I’m probably so used to R&B and it like it’s nonexistent now, this new stuff is just awful.
@@adrina911 Yes ma'am, Ms. Lalah is a Jewel. Everything she does is intentional. Has nothing to do with agility. My favorite singer period! I have to see her live one day

I never get tired of that gorgeous instrument of hers. It’s absolutely stunning and infectious.
She's my favorite female vocalist
Bar none!.💯
The first daughter of soul in the flesh, she's R&B royalty ❤️
She sings just like her daddy and she is gorgeous.
She is her father's daughter. They took his body, but he spirit is still with us.
BeAsA Roze maybe his is that other voice in the polyphonics

Sooo true! I always say he left us with his gift deeply embedded and reincarnated in Lalah. 🥰

Truly gifted. A Jazz musician who is stellar. This review states excellence. Scaling beautifully.

Spectacular voice ! Awesome singing family prestige. There is no one in the world can sing like Lalah Hathaway.
Absolutely flabbergasted, she’s got such a control over her delivery and tonality 🥹❤️❤️ what a master of her craft!

I'm tired of people calling her out her name... she's far from underrated.... Who's doing the rating!? Those who so call "rate" can NOT rate her!
Right. And she's a 5 time Grammy winner. There are great singers who don't even have ONE--if that's how we rate an artist's greatness.
💖💖💖🎤🎵🎵🎼🎼
What's her voice classification?
Awesome!😂
Ruckus Askani i found out she’s a Contralto!

Mezzo soprano
coloratura contralto
