hi RJ, I'm so sorry to hear these news, but I hope everything goes alright, really looking forward for some new videos, your channel was a big inspiration for all the projects I've done so far, you're part of the curious bike mechanic I am right now, thank you so much for everything and I'm glad your getting your energy back, take it slow.
Thank you for sharing your experience. Consider avoiding or taking extra care around part cleaning chemicals and degreasers. The brain is naturally composed of lipids (fats). Continued recovery👍🚵♀️
RJ! We love you. My stepfather beat a brain tumor. His was a couple gliomas or lesions and they were cancer. He started treatment and no cancer return so far and it's been 3 years now. His were in the back of the head but it was causing leg numbness and restless leg issues. But all is good now. Hope you get better brother.
You taught me everything I know about working on bikes and now I couldn't live without wrenching on my bikes. You're an absolute LEGEND!!! Get well soon!
The biggest bike legend in the history of youtube. This guy has saved my bacon numerous times. Couldn't do it without ya buddy. Wishing you and your wife good health x
RJ, My mother-in-law was diagnosed with the same thing, she is now 87 years old and is the most active senior in her group of friends. Garden every day (in the Arizona heat,) drive wherever she wants and plays bingo at least twice a week. You got this brother!
There are autopsy studies of car crash victims which found many cancers (many more than would be expected based on cancer death rates). The only conclusion is that most people die with their cancers, not from them.
You have helped me so much with bike stuff over the years, and you have just helped me again with your story as I am on day 3 of chemo for a leukaemia diagnosis that came out of the blue. So glad you and your wife got through a difficult time.
Man many years ago when I found you I was going through pretty bad depression. And you got me back out in the shed tinkering with my bikes and riding. Thank you
I'm glad that after all you went through that you have started to feel like RJ the bike guy that I learned so much from. When I first started riding again at the age of 60 after not riding since I was 16 I knew nothing about repairing bikes. I come from a automotive and computer background and you were the one I depended upon to help me solve problems I had with bikes. Now thirteen years later I rescue unwanted bikes left at the recycle center in town repair them and pass them on to someone who might have a need for one. Without the knowledge I garnered from you and seeing your passion for bikes and repairing them I would probably be wasting my time on a golf course instead of swearing at old bikes and having the time of my life. So thank you, glad to see you back and starting to feel better.
RJ, you're an inspiration. Thanks for your many hours of bike videos. Thanks for your expertise and your humor. You got me started working on bicycles many years ago in my garage. Now, in retirement, I volunteer at a community bike shop where we teach people how to repair their own bikes. I hope you continue your recovery and get better and stronger every day.
I'm so sorry to hear this RJ, but very glad you're feeling better! By the way "I need a brain biopsy like I need a hole in my head" is an ace joke for sure. The doc was probably just caught off guard by that.
In the early 90s I was a broke jr high kid with a Roadmaster MTB frame I found in the trash. I took it to an old school bike shop and explained my situation. He set up a second stand in his shop and every day after school for 3 weeks he walked me through the repairs so that I wouldnt have to pay for labor, and so that I learned a little something about bikes in the process. He passed away twenty years ago, but I will never forget that man. Your channel brought back all those same vibes I had in that dusty little shop back in the 90s. Thank you, my friend! Be safe, be well.
Hi RJ, so many other people have commented similarly nice things, and it sounds like you have a really wonderful approach to what can be a terrifying diagnosis. I just wanted to say, as many other people feel, that you truly are a wonderful presence on the internet and in the world. we only know you through the videos you put out, but you have brought so many people joy and shared so much knowledge, I hope you are really proud of this channel. So happy to hear the relatively benign prognosis of your glioma, I wish you all the best from the bottom of my heart. Can't wait to see more of your videos, if making them is a priority for you!
I went through prostate cancer treatment 20 years ago, and fully understand how wiped out you must have felt. I'm fine now, and hope you continue to be.
Chapeau! I was wrestling with a stubborn bottom bracket yesterday and started thinking of your antics with an impact wrench. What sets your videos apart isn't just your presentation style, it's the emphasis on mechanical problems cyclists actually encounter, such as the aforementioned bottom bracket; removal isn't always a smooth and problem-free affair. Your videos are my first port of call when it comes to bike maintenance; I continue to learn a lot from them and save a significant amount of money. All the very best for a full recovery. Warmest regards from Norwich, England.
@@ECsponger2"The box", or however BikeMan4U led into that phrase. I still practice using a "box", great reuse for certain containers especially plastic. I do it both at home (e.g. this evening, while working on a friend's bike - freewheel involved) and have almost got it ("put the stuff in something") as standard practice at the community bike place I help at. It works on an educate you how to fix your bike. Love it all.
I started a mobile bicycle repair business over 3 years ago. More than 5 years ago I would watch & learn from your channel. I learned a lot from your videos. Thank You for providing this information for free! I am glad to hear you are healthy. 🙏
I found your Channel in 2019 when I was going chemo and radio. Rj the bike guy is always my 1st stop if I'm stuck on my project bikes. Glad you're on the mend. You're Stamina wil return. Thanks for the update.
Your videos were therapeutic to me when I was going through chemo a few years back and was completely drained. Glad to hear you're on the up and up. Stay strong and can't wait for your future videos.
You are one of the main reasons that I now fix all my bikes myself and even the ones of my neighbours. Very glad that you are back and have a good recovery! Wishing you all the best
I really hope you're doing well, it takes a lot of courage to share such intimate details about your health but as you can see, lots of people care about you and look up to you. I'd say 65% of what I know about bike mechanics, I got it from you, and funny thing is, and you're probably not gonna believe me but here it is: I have a guitar building channel on youtube, it's doing pretty well, and it all started with repairing my bike in 2017. At that time I binge watched all of your videos for a while and then as I got more and more repairing tools, I needed something to store them. So I built a cart out of wood. Then I learned woodworking properly during the next 3 years or so. And then I built a guitar, and then another, and another, and another ... to this day. You and a few other people on youtube really really inspired me and others to just share what we love, and I thank you for that !
Thanks for checking in with us, RJ. You and your wife have experienced much physical and mental stress during the past few years. It sounds like things might be settling down? I send you and your wife much good medicine and love. Your health is most important, RJ, so get plenty of rest and know that your subscribers understand and appreciate your video archive for helpful repairs and maintenance tasks. Blessings!
Veo tus videos desde hace muchos años y me duele la noticia sobre tu estado de salud. Espero te recuperes y vivas plenamente. Saludos RJ, y te mando un cordial abrazo.
I am so glad to hear you are recovering. I wish you a 100% recovery. I can't ever imagine working on my bikes without watching your videos using common tools (and all kinds of specialized tools). Thank you so much RJ, for everything you have done for the bike community. I am so glad you are recovering and started to make videos.
RJ, I'm glad that both you and your wife are doing well; we're sending all our best to you guys from Scotland. I just wanted to thank you for all the amazing knowledge that you have put out into the world and to let you know how much it helped me get through COVID when my freelance work business up and working on my bikes kept me sane in those dark times. Good health to you both!
Just bought a Trek Discovery Channel road bike today and got it for a song and a dance. I'll be watching all the existing videos again and really look forward to some new ones. Take care of yourself and Mrs. The Bike Guy!
So good to hear from you RJ! You have been through the wringer and your dry wit was a little to dry for the doc. Keep getting better! You have been and incredible resource for bike repair for thousands of people and I am one of them.
I’m glad you’re back, Brother. I’m married to an oncologist, so I understand what you have been through. It looks like you’re taking it in stride. Congratulations on finishing chemo. Your videos basically taught me how to work on bikes. That’s saying something because I’m mechanically inept. I look forward to new ones.
Good to see again! 12 years ago I had surgery for a tumor in my left kidney and it was completely removed. Apart from having biannual check-ups and scans, I maintain a diet and exercise and lead a fairly normal life. It's good that after the treatment you were able to begin to recover your energy. Lots of life ahead, RJ! Big hug!
I hope you have a long and happy life. I am excited that you are considering making more videos. I learned a lot from them. I got into biking a couple years ago and was able to restore an old MTB by primarily watching your videos. They helped me tackle a lot of issues.
Your videos are consistently the most clear and helpful bike repair and maintenance videos on YT. I just discovered your channel in July of 2024 and subscribed right away. Good luck with your health, and thanks again for the benefit of your shared knowledge.
Dude you helped me get STARTED fixing my own bike years ago! So glad you're recovering and making some more videos for us to learn from. Thank you for every time I've been able to help a stranger on the trail keep riding.
Mighty damn fine to have you back, RJ. I was literally wondering what had happened! You help people from all over the world with bike issues, you have got me out of a pickle on several occasions. So from the humble country, Wales.... Iechyd da (good health in Welsh)
been on the same journey with blood cancer. It's under control after chemo and stem cell transplant. I have learnt to keep going. Your channel has helped me so often on build projects.
Just found this. So glad things are going as well as they are for you and your wife. You have been a huge part of my learning how to work on my own bikes! The way you present things is unpretentious, friendly and actually relaxing (if that doesn't sound too weird). Take care of yourself and I will look forward to anything you put out in the future, as I continue to watch your existing stuff!
Long time watcher, you've helped me more than you will ever know! Glad your treatment is going well. Ironically my cousin in law bike enthusiast that got me back into bike passed away yesterday, 8 months after being diagnosed with lymphoma. He turned me on to your channel. Stay well and love your videos!
Seeing you back made my whole day, sir. I wouldn’t have been able to build my first bike if it hadn’t been for you and your content. As the husband of a breast cancer patient, I send you all the best wishes, vibes, prayers, etc.
Welcome back RJ. Ya left us wondering! Glad you’re better. Been riding and wrenching on bikes for 50+ years and was even a sales rep for Specialized 35yrs ago and I still enjoy and learn from your videos.
I’m a professional mobile ebike mechanic because of your videos and Park Tools videos. Thanks so much! I’ve been full time for over 1 year now and it’s amazing! I have my own business and it’s growing faster than I can handle. ❤❤❤ I hope you stay well! Thanks so much!!! Glad to have an update, even if it made me sad. 😢
sometimes when I am thinking about bicycles and my next building-project this "hey viewers!" voice just pops up in my head. Super thankful on everything I learned from you! :) Glad your healthy and I hope you will have full recovery!
Sorry to here you got cancer . I have not tuned into your videos in over a year but always have been helped and enjoyed them. I hope you make a full recovery and feel even better than before.
Your videos helped me get into maintaining my own bikes as so many of them were particular to my problems. You made seemingly impossible jobs, relatively easy and gave me confidence to dismantle and rebuild rather than use bike shops. Your name is mentioned in lots of places for bike fix videos and you have a wide-ranging fanbase. I hope you and your wife remain fit and healthy and look forward to any further videos you may make. Much love and good wishes from England.
Glad to hear you're on the mend RJ. I've learnt so much from your videos, so I'm looking forward to having you back in my RUclips feed. Cheers from Australia.
that's so weird. i just finally fixed my bottom bracket, which was long overdue, after watching your videos just a couple of days ago and wondered if you were still around. sorry to hear what happened but very glad to hear you're doing better. your videos are a life saver, ironically. good luck & godspeed.
It was sad not hearing from you given the very positive and generous videos you have served so many with. We were all worried something had happened. Thank you for the update! Wishing you (and your wife) health and energy!
YEEEEEEEAH BABY! Stay Strong RJ! You bloody rippa! Over the years you've helped me out with more than a few funky bike repairs. Cheers Bro! - From Brisbane, Australia.
I'm so happy to see your back but most importantly that you are healthy. I've had my own history with loved ones who had tumors being diagnosed and seeing you are doing fine brings hope into me. I wish you a full recovery and all the best, greetings from the Netherlands with much love!
Thanks for the video and bringing everyone up to date on your well being! We all missed you! Your videos have been such a great aid whenever I come across a new wrinkle that an old bike is presenting and they're always great to watch and hear.
So happy to hear from you. Glad you're back! Really looking forward to more videos from you. Been watching your old videos. It's like rereading a good book. You know how its going to end but you don't care. Learned so much from you. You're a great teacher.
Glad you're recovering. My father went through radiation and chemo last year, and it really knocked him around, but the tumors in bowel are now gone, and the legions on lungs are now just scars.
Man you have really been through the mill… I had one session of radio for a small benign tumour in my inner ear and it knocked me out for a couple of weeks. Really hope you can get your life back and continue making great content to help all your subscribers ❤
It's great that you're back in the game and bearing up. May your recovery continue onwards and up! I can't tell you how much my son and I appreciate your videos..... particularly over those covid years when we were constantly accessing your back-catalogue on RUclips. Back then your voice became so familiar to us around the house. It's sincerely a pleasure to hear you anew again!
Mixed feelings on seeing you again. On the one hand, joy to see videos of you again. On the other hand, sadness for what you and your family are going through. But I am glad that you were able to come back, which means that you are well enough to share your wisdom with us. Thank you for that. And welcome back!
Glad to see you back RJ!!! you’ve always been on of my favorite bike RUclipsrs, and have inspired me to do my own bike maintenance over the years, build my own bikes, and fix bikes for friends. So happy to hear you’re doing better, and looking forward to many more years of great videos.
Glad the tumor appears to be a friendly guest, and it’s great to see you’re back at it! Your videos and your mindset behind repairs, adjustments and fabrications has helped me immensely in my own journey of self sufficient tinkering and fixing! You rock!! May you live a long and productive life!
Glad to see you're back and hoping for a full recovery. You've been an immensely helpful resource over the years for my bike repair journey. Thanks for all you do on your channel. It is much appreciated.
Hi RJ, As a fellow DIY enthusiast and bike repair lover (academic too), I’ve always found your videos incredibly helpful and informative. Your passion for sharing your knowledge is truly inspiring. I was so sorry to hear about your brain tumor diagnosis. You’ve been such a positive force in the community, and I know you’ll fight this with all your might. Sending you my love, support, and prayers for a full recovery. Best wishes, SK
I can’t tell you how grateful I am for all you taught me about bikes. You totally changed my life and got me into a whole new sport. So sorry for all you’ve been through, but hoping to see some more content from you soon.
Good to see you back RJ. I know how difficult and challenging it is. My dad just passed away last month bec of colon cancer, it hits me to know someone is also is dealing with a similar one. Wishing you full recovery
Hey RJ, wishing you all the best and glad to hear you are doing okay. The world is a better place with you in it. Thanks for all the help you've given me and inspiring me to give back to the community. This year I've managed to donate 7 bikes I fixed up to childre and people in need and it would have never have happened without your guidance.
I hope you will recover from this. You were actually one of the guys who brought me to be a bike mechanic-now for almost 6 years. I was watching your videos when I was just 19/20 now I am at 28. Get well soon and I hope you are going to show us some awesome videos in the future. Greetings from Germany near Stuttgart !
Thanks so much for the update. You have gone through lots of changes, but you are strong, continue to be strong and don't look back! Wish you the best recovery ! Thanks for all your help over the years.
Dude. I am a two-time cancer survivor and I am sending all my energy your way. Your content has helped me more than I could have ever imagined, here's to a speedy recovery
I was worried and thought of you often. You've helped me so much with all of your videos which are not only extremely informative but enjoyable to watch as well. Thank you the update and so glad you are feeling and doing better.
Wish you a speedy recovery. I have learnt a lot from your videos and fix my bikes by myself, especially the vintage ones. It's good to hear from you that you are OK. Wish you, your wife, and family good health and happiness!!!
I had in fact wondered what had happened to RJ and was happy to hear you are on the mend. Looking forward to some new videos. My favorite tools are the improvised ones you made videos about like the derailleur hanger checker and the headset cup remover and press. Best wishes for continuing health improvements for you and your wife.
Hey RJ! Wrenching on bikes was a pandemic hobby for me, and your videos were like gold. Glad the docs caught it. You can beat this! Best of health to you!
Really so good to see you back. I can’t tell you how much you’ve helped me with your videos, and I’m sure many, many others. Look after yourself and see more of you soon.
We have all missed your brilliant bike fixes and your easy-going, clear and natural presentation style, you helped me to build my first ebike, now we understand. Love and best wishes to you and your family, may you have the good health and strength to carry on going forward. We all would love and appreciate more of what you are exceedingly good at. Greetings from the United Kingdom ❤
I am overwhelmed by all the kind comments! Thank you all so very much!

I hope you'll have a full recovery.

Your detailed videos on freehub repair and seatpost removal saved a number of bikes for me! All the best for your recovery
Your videos taught me so much in the last couple of years. So happy to hear you're making your health the top priority! Thank you RJ!
Great to see you back, RJ-you’ve helped me out of jams so many times I cannot count. Hope you continue to heal for a full and permanent recovery!
that's so weird. i just finally fixed my bottom bracket, which was long overdue, after watching your videos just a couple of days ago and wondered if you were still around.
sorry to hear what happened but very glad to hear you're doing better.
your videos are a life saver, ironically.
good luck & godspeed.
It was sad not hearing from you given the very positive and generous videos you have served so many with. We were all worried something had happened. Thank you for the update! Wishing you (and your wife) health and energy!
Good to see RJ is back… I still refer to your Suntour videos service my Suntour forks… stay healthy.
YEEEEEEEAH BABY!
Stay Strong RJ! You bloody rippa!
Over the years you've helped me out with more than a few funky bike repairs.
Cheers Bro!

Best of luck RJ, take good care.
Thank you!!!
So happy to hear from you. Glad you're back! Really looking forward to more videos from you. Been watching your old videos. It's like rereading a good book. You know how its going to end but you don't care. Learned so much from you. You're a great teacher.
Like so many others….your videos have inspired me. I am almost totally proficient in maintaining my 3 Rivendells.
Hey are RJ! YOU taught me how to change a bike tube and I still watch your videos, thank you so much! Stay strong RJ, you got this!
Glad to see you're back and hoping for a full recovery. You've been an immensely helpful resource over the years for my bike repair journey. Thanks for all you do on your channel. It is much appreciated.

Your videos welcomed me into bike maintenance which changed my life. Thank you, RJ! Wishing you all the best!
I hope you will recover from this. You were actually one of the guys who brought me to be a bike mechanic-now for almost 6 years. I was watching your videos when I was just 19/20 now I am at 28. Get well soon and I hope you are going to show us some awesome videos in the future.
