This prompted a trademark dispute involving the owner of the station at the time, which was ultimately resolved within a few years. As part of the settlement of the dispute, RTL was forced to withdraw the channel's logo; a temporary logo was used beginning in April 1996 which was ultimately replaced by a logo featuring the Roman numeral II by the middle of 1999. In exchange, KGAN was allowed to retain its logo, which continued in use until shortly after the 2003-04 television season; the station would be acquired by Sinclair Broadcast Group in 1998, two years after the logo was forcibly changed.
