- Ultimate fix: called Delta and got a new cartridge under warranty. At least the video shows disassembly for that.
Fix for creaky delta kitchen faucet by lubricating RP50587 cartridge.
Faucet is a Talbott 16968-SSSD-DST.
Be sure to tighten the large nut holding the cartridge in or it will leak out the bottom of the faucet though the hole in the counter top and down under your sink (don't ask how I know). Check for leaks.
It worked!!! Thank you so much! Because of your video, a housewife was able to fix her squeaky faucet! Thank you!!!
That's great! Thanks for posting. Nice to hear this was of use to you.
Good job Jeff. Took my cartridge out, completely disassembled it, cleaned & lubricated (silicone grease) the parts and reinstalled it. Have to pay CLOSE attention to the alignment of all the parts. I lubed all gaskets.
I had this issue after replacing the cartridge. The instructions in this video so far have worked out great. Thanks for taking the time to make the video.
TY for this video! this fixed the problem. Delta had givin me an entire faucet replacement, but then i saw this video and tried it and old one (which was brand new when creaking started) is working perfectly. so i got an extra faucet on hand now too! :)
Thanks everything went fine. I got my parts upside down but finally got it to work. I lubbed both sides of white part. Relieved it's fixed.👍
You saved me. I had trouble remembering how to put it all back. Big puzzle. Thank you
Thank you Jeff. I enjoyed the music, but had trouble hearing what you were saying softly while you were working. All the best.
Thank you for demonstrating the assembly. Following the note above, I saved the manual information from the faucet install and found Delta guarantees home parts as long as original purchaser resides in home, 5 yrs for commercial. Called and had a new cartridge shipped with no problem.
Great. Glad you saw the note about the cartridge and that you found the video to be helpful.
Jeff King i can not seem to undo the brass bolt on mine and my sick does what your does but it was leaking on hot swtting and not cold when you moved the handel any ideas should i.shot some 3& 1 oli in the cartage and see if that help or do you got a idea hold to take the cartage out hardwater locked in place
Thomas I'm in the same boat. It's not just a matter of need to put my purse down. Did you get it off eventually?
Thanks, Jeff. Skipped to your ultimate fix and contacted Delta today. Very pleasant and efficient customer service person will be shipping out cartridge. Rep acknowledged it is common problem and did not ask for proof of purchase at this time, though she said to hang on to receipt. Your video helpful for removal/install procedure.
Did Delta replace the cartridge for free?
.no charge both times I've had to replace cartridges
Thanks so much! This video saved me from ordering a $52 replacement cartriage!
Had the same squeaky problem with our kitchen faucet. Bought some silicon lube at HD and it's working like a charm now. Thanks for your video!
Glad you found it helpful. If it starts up again, recommend calling Delta for a free replacement cartridge. It's been years now and no issues with the replacement cartridge.
Great job explaining it with great video and instructions thats well paced and explained.
My cartridge got creaky and leaky just a few months after installing a new Delta Kessler faucet. I guess mine was factory assembled on a Friday afternoon by the village idiot....anyway the replacement "Delta" brand replacement cartridges are $33 at Lowe's, however I found a generic one that "Danco" makes for $23 (also sold at Lowe's). It fit and worked like a charm! Thanks for your post.
Glad this helped. If you have to change it again, call Delta. They will likely send one free of charge.
Easy Fix: Initially I removed the handle and sprayed Teflon Lube on toggle piece that rotates - didn't work. Next I tried gobbing on a bunch of plumbing Teflon Grease (with a Q-tip) on rotating toggle ball and put handle back on. For a few days it made a little squeak and then it went away. Been 6 weeks and no noise at all anymore.
I too have been sent a replacement under warranty for no cost.
Thank you very much. Worked great. May the force be with you.
Thank you! Worked like a charm! I used 90% pure silicone grease that I got at the hardware store.
Me too, sticky
Same problem, slightly different Delta faucet. Problem corrected. Thanks!
Delta has great service. Lifetime warranty on parts. New cartridge on the way. No hassle.
Free? Or did you have to pay for the cartridge?
No charge. Real lifetime warranty.
Nice fix, I would use food grade grease. By the way, if you take time to call Delta, they will ship you the part for free... (depending on your model)

If your faucet "squeaks" after replacing or cleaning your cartridge be sure you did not over tighten the brass nut that holds the cartridge in place. Also have some silicone grease on hand to add a small amount to the "D" pivot hole in case you clean it too well. I also used some silicone spray on the pivot ball after cartridge assembly and before handle installation to make the lever action smooth as silk.
I'm unable to remove the brass nut. Tried to 2 different wrenches. Tried with WD-40. It doesn't budge. Any suggestions?
@@HarshaKota The nut loosens counter clockwise. Best to use a wide jaw adjustable spanner.
Search for wide jaw adjustable spanner to see some examples.
@@HarshaKota spray it with vinegar.
I cannot believe that having asked MANY times how to fix the magnetic end on my Delta Touch 2 Pillar Pulldown faucet/kitchen/ why it takes me everywhere but to that simple ANSWER!!!!!!
Judy Williams, Yeah, it sounds like my video is not applicable to the problem you are having. Make sure there is nothing blocking the hose under the sink if the faucet is not retracting all the way. Otherwise, I suggest you call Delta. They have been pretty helpful when I have called. Hopefully they can get you the right part.
If you're the original owner, just call Delta. Their service and life warranty is great and hassle free.
But if you're a second owner you're screwed, Home Depot generics outdo that.
@@greggasiorowski4025 I bought some Glacier Bay faucets for our kids' bathroom and they corroded in a couple years. I'll stick with the major brands.
Believe I added a note to say that the ultimate fix is to change out the cartridge. Call Delta. They will likely send you a new one.
Very helpful video - thanks!
Thank you, Jeff.
This worked great! Thank you!!!
thx so much. i have the exact same one!!!! awesomeeee
My brass nut is not moving. I have WD40 and a nice crescent wrench on it. Should I try some heat?
I just got a new cartridge from Delta, and within a few weeks it began creaking just like the old one. Worse actually.
That's strange. I don't think I've replaced the cartridge since posting the update saying that the cartridge change is the way to go.
Just called them. They are sending another new cartidge, plus a new bonnet. They said the old bonnet might not have mated right with new cartridge. Dunno about that.
Jeff, I apologize if my comment sounded like a criticism. It was not intended to be critical. I was merely interested in whether the fix worked for a reasonable amount of time. True that the ultimate fix is to replace the cartridge, but it's nice to know that someone with a little initiative took the time to examine the cartridge and figure out an alternative. We have been testing Delta faucets for 15 years and no one here ever thought to take a sticky cartridge apart with the idea of fixing it. We just replace. So, good job.

Thank you!
Helpful, Thanks!
Replaced my cartridge , put it back together and now I have water and no pressure out of my hot side. What did I do wrong
Thanks!
Same problem...Delta sent me an entire new faucet...payed the plumber to install it and now 4 months later...this NEW ONE is having worse problems. Started sounding "creaky" like in the video and now doesn't even shut off... I had to turn off the valves under the sink....Not Happy!
Mine has been good since replacing the cartridge. Hopefully my video will allow you to try that and save any more plumber fees. Delta should send you a new cartridge.
My delta faucet has the metal ring very jammed and I see that how easily you were able to unscrew it with your bare hands without any tool...what if I am not able to do that? I am afraid of using too much force to mess it up. And wrench doesnt even fit on it because there is no grip. Is there anyway I could replace the spring and rubber thing without unscrewing the round metal thing?
I would try wrapping something like an old bike inner tube around it for grip. Maybe then use a pipe wrench...carefully. Another idea is to spray some vinegar in there to break up hard water deposits and let it sit for a while. Worst case, grab it with a pipe wrench and buy a new one.
thank you so much for showing me this, what is the name of the lubrication
Dow 111, but note that the way to go is to call Delta and ask them to send a replacement cartridge.
Just use spray silicone lube. That way you don't have to take apart the cartridge. Much easier and quicker.
@Brian Cote
Just did this and it works!!!
Thanks
I am would be surprised that lubricating the ceramic discs in the faucet is a permanent fix. The discs are not intended to be lubricated, and the lubricant will rub off from the scouring action of the water eventually. Is this fix still working?
starcraftcustombuild, No, you're right. There's a note that the ultimate fix is to change out the cartridge.
You're right. Best to change out the cartridge.
wHERE DOES IT SHOW DISASSEMBLY FOR THAT
I have this faucet too. What does the little orange "toggle switch" on the top of the cartridge do?
Sorry, it's been so long since I took this apart, I don't remember what that orange thing does. Good news is that the replacement cartridge is still working well.
@@jeffking543 I found out the little orange toggle limits the hot water in one setting... cold/warm or cold/hot. I contacted Delta for mine today (Saturday) and they have FANTASTIC customer service! Their faucets have life-time warranty. All my future faucets will be Delta........
Thanks for making this video!
What is the exact model number for that faucet. I would like to order/shop for a new cartridge for that exact faucet. Thanks!
Talbott 16968-SSSD-DST with RP50587 CARTRIDGE
i changed the cartridge now the water wont shut off??
Not sure what to say. Is it upside down, perhaps?
THANK YOU!!!!!!
the video would have been much better if your hand wasn't always in the way of view,,, position camera on other side
Why the Porno music?
Because I love fixing things? ... It's some free rights music I got with a video editing program
Your hand is blocking the video too often.
Jeff, the insert directions with the cartridge MENTIONS with a NOTICE: "DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DISASSEMBLE CARTRIDGE"😧😤😲 What section of the directions did you NOT READ?? Thus you sound like your messing with the cartridge only opened you up to other potential problems! It never mentions lubricating the ball or the flat plate in the cartridge!!
My video says the best fix is to replace the cartridge. I left this video up since others found the disassembly and reassembly of the faucet to be helpful. I've fixed many products with "no user serviceable parts inside" warnings, so, yes, you're right, I take those with a grain of salt, seek to understand how the thing works and what might be dangerous, then give it a shot. Didn't work out here, but no damage done. This faucet is still working great.
Order from delta and repair the old while you wait. Use vinegar to clean all parts then lube with silicone grease. I have all delta faucets and repairsd all. No problema
Your hand is in the way and the music is unnecessary!
I'm not a pro You Tube person. Just thought this might help some others.
He mumbles and seems to talk to himself, not to the audience. He is hard to hear and understand. Often times his hand is in front of the camera and the viewer can't see what he is doing.
