  • I found this video on www.wingchun.edu.au/ It has some really awesome demonstrations. The full video is available there, but I borrowed a few parts and slowed them down. There are some excellent clips of what Wing Chun is capable of in the right hands.
There's a kicking demonstration, followed by Sifu Jim Fung's chum-kiu and one inch punch(!) and Sigung Chu Shong Tin's demonstration of Wing Chun stance by standing on one leg on top of a mahjong piece.
I personally found the 'Whoa!' at the end of the one inch punch video to be quite funny.
All in all some great demonstrations. I'll have to see if I can find more videos from this school.

Sifu Fung passed away the other week , was very sad to read the news , I met him once ,very genuine person and teacher , credit to the expat Chinese community in Australia

Sigung was relaxing and redirecting the force down through his body and into the ground. Doing it through a small surface area like a mahjong piece is amazingly difficult

It's body structure. The body is aligned in such a way that the force going into the arms is spread through the body to the legs and back into the floor, that's why he's on scales, to show how much power his structure is essentially absorbing. Tis one of the many strengths of wing chun :)

Exactly I have been taking various forms for the majority of my life, 10 years in classes, and through out the rest of my life perfecting my own form myself. My first instructor used to say 30% physical training 70% mind training, at 9 I threw my Jujitsu instructor over my back about 5' in front of me him weighing about 190lbs.

Even Bruce didn't get a reaction like that, and the guy he demonstrated with was standing in a completely neutral stance (his feet in line with his shoulders) not in a defensive posture like this guy.

Sigung Chu Shong Tin was redirecting the force of the push down so the more harder the guy pushed the more force would be reapplied to him.

  • @cutevil

    It's physics as well.
Human body is not hard rock. There are many muscles working together, you call it muscle coordination. He is a master and I guess he have a stance that can transfer all the force from the guy's hand (nearly parallel to the ground) to his standing leg (nearly perpendicular to the ground, , which also create more friction force to keep him stay on the mahjong piece)
That's why they place the scale under him, to see how the force has transfer to his leg.

a big part of wing chun is to center your chi. so the old master just grounded his energy so the other guy cudn't push him off.

Many believe that martial arts do not work, nor in self-defense or in life, because there are guns in the middle, but number one, it is illegal to carry weapons without a license, in addition to where we will get them? and number two, martial arts are self defense (hand to hand and / or weapons), mental training and more.
They dont need it, but imagine a master of martial arts combined with a weapon? agility and others make it almost unstoppable.

it is all magic, they work with the devils at these high levels, after two or three degres (or Dan in some other martial arts) they have to do with devils and some moves, meditations and some forms of trainings are pure idolatry
