  • We live off-the-grid on our Northern Wisconsin homestead, no running water, 18 acres of land. In this video, we're preserving over 120 chickens eggs using three different methods of preserving. Quiche Lorraine Pie recipe below in the description. Great methods for filling the homestead freezer with eggs from our free-range chickens. We're getting an older boat ready for our son's 13th birthday - DIY motor swap and boat prep. The snow melted this week and we're uncovering the garden beds to see garlic, rhubarb, strawberries, herbs, and tulips emerging! Signs of spring is here, buds on the trees and frogs singing in the ponds. We are welcoming spring! Thank you so much for watching! -Shane and Lindsey

      Nice to hear about your boat, sounds like that motor shouldn't have any troubles then with the 14' boat. I do know what you mean about the garden freezing still. Last night we had a hard freeze, all the chicken water froze! Hope you have a great day 😊

    Hello, thank you so much for watching! Totally forgot to ask in the video: What kind of boat was your first one growing up? And what type of plants are poking up in your garden this spring? Would love to hear! We also put the Quiche Lorraine Pie recipe into the description if you're curious. Hope you're having a good spring... Have a good week! -Shane and Lindsey Krumrie

    Yay Krumries!! What a great idea Lindsey for preserving the eggs. Those quiche look delicious. The boiled eggs gave me the idea for egg salad for lunch. Is Liam going to paint and name his boat? Take good care guys. You're the best!!

      Good idea on naming his boat, he'll be taking it out for the first time tomorrow so we'll see if he thinks of a name. Shane always paints our boats, likes to do restorations, so he could help Liam paint if he wants. Great ideas. Thanks for your nice comments, hope you have a good day 😊

    Yummy looking pies! My first boat was a canoe. We’ve been working on our garden too, 30 bags of cedar chips around our raised beds, filled the beds with compost and probably start our seeds this weekend in our new greenhouse.

      Oh wow, you're busy. Sounds awesome to put all those cedar chips around the beds. I need to fill in my cedar chips again. New greenhouse sounds wonderful 👍😊 enjoy and happy seed starting. This weather coming up looks pretty good. I think I'm going to move all my starters out to the greenhouse soon. Hopefully we don't have another freezing cold night like last night, brrr. The chicken water froze up! Thanks for commenting, have a great weekend!

    What do you use the frozen eggs for and what kind of flour for your crust? Love your videos❤

    • @KrumriesCabin
      @KrumriesCabin  5 месяцев назад

      I like to thaw the eggs out and make french toast and egg bakes, so far. I bet there are more things I'll think of too. For the pie crust, I use half white all purpose flour and half wheat all purpose flour. Thanks for commenting! Hope you have a good day 😊

    Why wouldn't you keep the motor for when he gets older

    • @KrumriesCabin
      @KrumriesCabin  5 месяцев назад

      This is a good question, we thought about because he will want to upgrade eventually. He might not want that big of a motor for a few years yet so we just thought it would be better sold for now. Plus, the extra money is nice.

    Do you have other neighbors or places where you can trade your eggs?

    • @KrumriesCabin
      @KrumriesCabin  5 месяцев назад +1

      Good idea on the trading. Most of the people who live around us out in the country have their own chickens but there are some in town I could probably trade, like one of Liam's friends mom has lots of bees, it would be great to get some honey. Thanks for the suggestion. Hope you have a good day 😊
