with the whole hate boner for humans in transformers, I blame the Bay films for their over focus on Shia Labeouf. One of the biggest boons of Skybound take on Transformers, is how Cybertrionans are invasive to Earth society and with the Decepticons being dog kicking EVIL helps. Soundwave is shaping up to be one the biggest breakouts of this comic. The second biggest boon being the back to basics approach to the characters and their bios, Optimus and Thundercracker being the big stand outs.
I really like the characterization of each characters in this series so far, especially the Decepticons. Soundwave is a deceitful characters like he always does but he does not enjoy unnecessary killings or sadistic like the way Starscream does, he also cares about his cassettes and he only sacrifice Skywarp due to necessity, and SPOILERS-------- in #8 Soundwave and Thundercracker destroyed a cruiser, Thundercracker let the humans go as he pities them, showing he does have some honour in him but Soundwave kills them all not because he likes to but because the humans will report about them so he does what he had to. In the same issue Skywarp fixes Wheeljack's leg after the Autobots saved him from being destroyed and finally in the Energon Universe Special Megatron spared a human scientist after he tells him where his missing limbs are, and the dialogue also hint at him actually believing in his cause. The Decepticons are still evil of course, but the book doesn't make them just 80s cartoon one note baddies but also doesnt make them a group of misunderstood characters but villains with layers and personality. (well the main ones at least, RIP Reflector)
