  • Not everyone is happy with India's Chandrayaan-3 success.
A portion of the British society wants India to return the aid given by UK over the years. @VikramChandra asks- What about the $45 trillion the British looted from India? Shouldn't the UK be the one repaying India?

We suffered the looting from the British not to mention the brutality and killing and all they left in Africa was religion and brain wash . Kudos india for all the achievements. I applied the same approach as used in the 45 trillion calculation to the investment done by British before 1850s. The estimate of 200 million pounds sterling as the total investment in infrastructure by the British government in India up to the mid-19th century is based on various historical records and estimates. It's worth noting that there is some degree of uncertainty around this figure due to a lack of comprehensive records from the period. That being said, one source that provides an estimate of the British investment in India's infrastructure is the book "The Economic History of India, 1857-1947" by Tirthankar Roy. According to the book, the British invested around 200 million pounds sterling in Indian infrastructure up to the mid-19th century, including the construction of roads, canals, and railways. Another source that supports this estimate is a report by the Indian government's Planning Commission, titled "India's Five Year Plans: An Overview". The report mentions that the British invested around 200 million pounds sterling in India's infrastructure up to the mid-19th century.Using
A= 0.2 billion pound, n = once per year (conservative!) and 0.05 interest (as per the India calculation and t=223 years
Putting into Microsoft Excel (other spreadsheets are available) tells me that:
10622.914 billion i.e 10 trillion sterling was invested in India which can be converted to dollar by multiplying with 4.68 as done by Patnaik which shows that British invested 46 trillion dollars in India. Now you might have understood how Patnaik lied about it. The way Patnaik calculated it is through a false method.

Indian living in America here. Most American media and people are pretty appreciative about it. It is the far right British that are salty about it. This is a lie though. That is not an aid. Because of this dumb misinformation, many Brits and Aussies are flooding the social media with outright racist remarks. Never seen any American being so even though many Europeans stereotype the US as a racist place. Ironic!

But still we are standing proudly....nothing has changed...because of our strong belief, customs, moral, family traditions, food culture, dress code, mainly our own mother tongue 👅 still we are happy with more diversity. But our politicians and some percentage of people still holding the colonial mindset....hope that would change soon...or near future. ❤ merciless people on the earth is Britain. It's a speculative projection, not what occurred in the real world. $45 trillion was never transferred from India, Utsa Patnaik herself estimates the actual figure as about £1 billion pounds in total, the rest is manufactured from compound interest rates up to the year 2016. It should be obvious that a calculation at a 5% compound interest rate to the year 2016 and beyond should not be represented as the “drain” on the Indian economy 1765-1938.

It is not $45 trillion. The study came in 2018 or so...which is 5 years ago. The authors assumed a 5% interest rate (which is atrocious, no one in pre-independence India was lending for less than 12%). Therefore, after 5 years, the amount stands at $57.4 trillion. The annual interest rate alone for this year is $2.87 trillion, which is ~92% of UK GDP. If we convert it to a 190 year EMI, Britain will have to monthly EMI of $239 billion or so...The entire UK budget revenues are ~$1200 billion per annum. They can't afford to pay even 6 EMIs. If they are forced to pay, the pound will collapse, the economy will become 0 and they will be exactly like pre-Independence India or any other colony they ruled, impoverished with no government services.

In 1997, when Britain handed Hong Kong to China at that time Hong Kong had a total share of 18% of China's GDP but now it had reduced to less than 3% of China's GDP. Does that mean China turned Hong Kong poor? What happened during that period was that the rest part of China developed more faster than Hong Kong. The same thing happened to India. In fact, India's economic growth during colonial period was way higher than that during mughal rule.
From 1850 to 1947, India's GDP in 1990 international dollars grew from $125.7 billion to $213.7 billion, a 70% increase, or an average annual growth rate of 0.55%. This was a higher rate of growth
than during the Mughal era (1600-1700), when it had grown by 22%, an annual growth rate of 0.20%, or the longer period of mostly British East Indian company rule from 1700 to 1850 where it grew
      39%, or 0.22% annually.[12]

I'd like to point out that this British presenter's does not endorse the majority of the British public here. Wait till capital trimming happens between 2025 to 2026 which also means 50% reduction in salaries, pension, real estate etc forget about free socialist schemes implemented by mindless printing of trillions of pounds out of thin air.

The fact that they did it before their ex-colonisers is irrelevant. Almost everyone who could have had any role in colonised India is very old or very dead. India should define itself by itself, not by endlessly comparing itself to Britain. Seriously, look at us (I'm British) - we are no yardstick anyone should be measuring themselves by anymore. India has far better things to aim for than a faded former colonial power.

The $45 trillion figure is a mathematical construction, not something that actually happened. Shame on those who understand this and yet knowingly spread it on the internet, they clearly have some kind of agenda. It's misinforming the public, and a gross distortion of the truth.
