This Christmas, we were lucky enough to finally pick up both a Xbox Series X and a PS5 Slim so we are in a good position to compare latest builds. The X Box is silent even when playing Forza for ages....amazing really. The PS5 Slim is silent when starting up....however, launch a Digital game to eliminate drive noise (from disc spinning) and immediately the fans kick in....not overly loud but much more noticeable compared to the X-Box. Both units are not in a media cabinet with plenty of air flow. When playing Spiderman there was a constant "whine" from the PS5. It is early days but I need to get more testing done (it was enough to annoy me even with sound on). My son is on the X-Box most nights so I have not had much access to my PS5. On first impressions I'm far more impressed with the Xbox hardware. I will update comment once more testing performed
I had the original OG (Disc) as soon as it came out in 2020. Don't want to be the bearer of bad news (and hopefully this info is upgraded for the better), but I had my original OG in the same position and size cabinet as yours. - And while it completely protected it from acquiring internal dust, the whole thing eventually went into meltdown and blew. Now I have my recently purchase Slim (Disc) in vertical out in the open so it has plenty of breathing room. As for protecting the Console from dust - when I don't use the console - I unplug it from the powerboard, then place a thick plastic linen bag over it. So far, so good. - But have just bought it so I have not had the time to play games and really test it at the moment... But 2024 is here and looking forward to playing LOU 2 and FFVII: Rebirth.
Had my ps5 slim since November 23, and it’s now having overheating issues. Shutting down as soon as it’s loaded up, saying too hot. Yet it’s in a well ventilated area and no dust in or around vents. Trying to get it resolved via warranty, and the model number isn’t recognised when requesting a repair. Feels like a scam!!!
I originally bought my PS3 slim when they were only out for a month and it still works fine now BUT the chassis sometimes makes loud cracking and snapping noises when it heats up. I don't know how common this is.
I think it’s honestly the placement in your cabinet. Sure, the fan is designed to handle the internal heat of the PS5 slim, but the air and the PS5 in the cabinet also heats up and doesn’t get cooled down enough contributing to an overall gaunt of the “working climate” of the PS5. Hence he added fan activity.
@@baileybryant42 Sony was supposed to solve the issue of graphics cards running so hot, but instead they created an ugly console designed to dissipate the heat better. It HAS to be kept out in the open, horizontal on it's stand, or you will eventually break it.
I don’t know if this helps for someone but here’s my experience: I got my ps5 “slim” one week ago, I had it set it up in a place like this guy, it was even bigger, 20 cm free on both sides and 30cm from the rear wall, I HAD THE SAME ISSUE, exactly same sound, yesterday I put it on top next to the tv and omg, problem fixed. The problem is when you have the console in a closed space where the hot air can’t escape, doesn’t matter how big the space is, if it’s closed on the back the air will return to the console and that’s why it forces the vents to get it cooler. Get that console out of there

I’ve had a phat ps5. Just got the slim and it’s quieter. Mine is out in the open. Not sure if it’s the reason. I’ve also heard Sony has different kinds of fans.
Is it downloading or installing stuff? Maybe they just need an update for the fan to chill out when not in heavy use. Try a restart or a reinstall, or try a different game besides fortnite, And see if that works. Hopefully it just needs an update to fix this bug.
its actually quite normal, considering that they crammed same specs of original ps5 into smaller space. i'd say this was quite expected. sure would be nice if no noise but... thats the tradeoff

That ringing noise isn't an Issue as in your system gonna die issue BUT it's a fking annoying one lol. I hear it more on certain games like the map screen on ff16 It's the PSU. There are 2 blue metalised film capacitors next to each other and one of them makes a noise because it vibrates. Totally normal but Yeah annoying as hell. You can remedy it by jamming some card or rubber I'd Go rubber because it will absorb the vibration better
The slim puts out more heat than the other versions.. that space doesn't have enough of an opening for the heat to escape.. I have the slim. I got it in the Mw3 bundle and have played it every day for a few hours at a time, no issue..
Dude, this is the worst revision since the PS3 top loader. I have a 1200 model and sometimes I need to slap my PS5 so I can hear it's alive, it's so freaking quiet.
I can play a game for hours and not have it zoom like a UFO and keeps quiet. its standing vertically in an open space on a table with enough outside ventilation as well (I like my window open even in winter sometimes) but even when my room is warm I have no issue. You're bullshitting us, especially how you cramped that poor thing sideways in a cabinet where it cant get rid of the warm air coming out the back
So after investigating all day, I can confirm that the Slim still uses 4 brands: Nidec, Foxconn (plain motor), Nmb (3 branches motor), and Delta. I've seen them all from videos except the Delta but in Reddit people claim they saw it too. The difference is that in the Slim CFI-20xx, all of them now come with the same design and number of blades (19) but still have different sounds, despite Sony apparently trying to unify its fan design. I can also confirm that on my Japanese Slim (CFI-2000) I got the Nidec fan (8 dots on the motor, but no branding like on the OG PS5). The idle sound on mine is greatly silent, but the in-game sound not so much, it still have the UFO-ish sound, but not as bad as the infamous 17 blades of the OG PS5. I'd say it's much closer to the Nidec V3 (which makes sense since it's chronologically the closest fan to that one), and it's acceptable. I'm not gonna bother getting another fan or console, since this time around, in the case of the PS5 Slim, it's another model than the Nidec that seems to be the worst from what I read in reddit and RUclips, although people didn't check the branding. So @The Stack could you please check what model of fan is this, since that would help, you can do it by simply remove the cover on the NVME side and describe the fan's motor.
@@imGreeddyy But they put in a smaller motherboard, changed up the heat sinks and everything to fit into a smaller form factor. Hopefully Sony can fix this with some firmware updates. Probably has something to do with the APU heat probes and fan curves they programmed in.
I only got my ps5 slim yesterday, but the fan kicks in, but then when I turned it off and then went back on later, the fan doesn't even work. I don't know what the problem is.
In the ps5 slim they used a more aggressive fan . So it's louder Because its a more aggressive fan as it speeds up it will make more noise. If you recall the ps4 slim had same noise. They have to have a more aggressive fan to cool with less space and heat sinks .
This ain't true. The reason it's so loud in the video is because where he placed it. The ps4 slims came with crappy thermal paste from factory and if you replace the thermal paste properly, the console will quiet down.
when it comes to Pc, usually the fans kick up when the cpu is hot, put that console somewhere else for a day or two. if it's the same bs then yeah. could be a hardware issue.
I keep my OG PS5 vertical on an open desk so I know it's got plenty of breathing room but a family member keeps theirs enclosed in a much more cramped entertainment center than shown in this video and they even play it with the cabinet door closed. The unit seems to get very hot but handles it OK (so far). I think he's got plenty of air moving around that PS and it's probably a Sony firmware issue.
I just bought the 5 slim digital and within a couple of hours ..it started making the same noise that s in ur video .. any updates on this ? should I just cancel .. coz I returned it and they said they will check it .. can it be fixed or should I just get a refund ?
I had a PS5 digital edition that had coil whine and it was in an open space with plenty of ventilation. However, this seems to be a fan issue rather than coil whine.
Interesting. I also have the original PS5 and it's whisper quiet, just like my Xbox Series X. I bought a digital edition PS5 as I was thinking of trading in the other one, and after I set it up I noticed a bad coil whine which also made a low vibration noise. I immediately sent it back to Sony and kept my original. So it seems they have some quality control issues with their consoles that isn't consistent. I think the majority of them are ok, but a select few will have some defects.
I don't like PlayStation and there might be some issues with noise level on 'Slim' model but I think you are looking for a cheap sensation. 3 out of 3 consoles having same issue is quite unlikely. Plus you are not showing the console running in recommended environment, but rather in place I would never put any console in. It is circulating hot air. We don't know as well how long you are grilling that console either. It might be running for a few hours on high load.
So far I'm not having this issue sorry to hear anyone else is having this problem though. These system's are very expensive so that kinda money down the drain is never good.
Let’s see what a fat ps5 does in there, prove it. We have 3 PS5s, one being a slim in our house and because we put them in well ventilated areas we’ve played a ton of different games and we don’t have this issue. If the fans ramping up that badly is that big of a concern THEN MOVE IT OUT OF THE ENCLOSED SPACE
Have you opened it up? It was only an issue for me once and I reconnected the fan and it stopped. Just take off the cover unplug it clean out the space where the fan was, the vent inside, then add the fan back. Or try running it without the top two covers. They sell open covers aftermarket that also are matte finished.
Your problem is that "you have a PlayStation 5" 20 years ago Xbox had overheating problems, today it is the Play 5 and apparently not even an improved version solves the problem of many.
You are holding the console in the wrong place. There is no place for the hot air to escape. It's your fault it's overheating. Put it in a place where it's free on all sides.
I had the same issue went through two slims mw3 bundles and they were this loud but worse. I kept my og ps5 because it was bearable Sony needs to address this
The one we got. After a day of fortnite it keep getting an error code ce-108262-9 did everything to try to fix but nothing worked. It would just freeze on the fortnite menu or during a match. I ended up returning it and getting the regular system ( not slim ) spiderman bundle My first ps5 has nerver had a probpem.
@@Luther1298 In my experience I can tell you that it is not noisy, only when it copies the game from the blue-ray, but that is normal, but then it is very quiet, I think that the slim version does not have the coil whine problem that the og has.
@@pgs2043 it's pretty obvious what he meant; we want to see how the console performs playing other games, or if it only makes that fan noise with Fortnite.
FYI: the fan in the slim is smaller than the one in the phat by almost 2 mm so it is a more noticeable sound when it's running. As long as you are not getting overheating warnings it is fine. Also Sony's recommendation says do not place the PS5 Slim in any enclosed space if the cabinet you're putting in does not have an open back you should not be putting it in there.
Happend to me yesterday, same noise, same setup and space. It's the disk unit that touches the furniture and the sound reverbrate. I used an item bought on Amazon to get it not in direct contact with the furniture, put up ff7 remake and the noise almost completly dissappeared
So the issue is that you lost the fan lottery. The slims come with different fan models so you wont know until you test it. My has the hum/whine when the fan spins up but its no where near as loud as yours. I can hear the fan spin up then die down. Then back up again then itll stay that way. I dont even notice it anymore
That enclosed shelf space might as well be an Air Fryer. Another dude in the comments said his slim model makes the same noise specifically when he's in the Fortnite lobby. Have you tried playing something else for a while? Honestly I think the odds of this happening 3 separate times, from 3 separate retailers have gotta be like a billion to 1, so you'll have to forgive me if I say this sounds like a click-sympathy cap video. I guess we'll have to see if this is a more widespread issue, because nobody is reporting this issue on RUclips or elsewhere. Maybe try taking it back out of that toaster-oven you affectionately call a shelf, and test it with games other that the Fortnite lobby.
Hello ! The problem is that your console cannot be ventilated !!! If I see correctly, your TV holder furniture is closed at the back. This is very dangerous for the consols And only use it vertically. Important You purchase inmediatly one vertical stand. On the vertical mount. If the console is horizontal. The TV Stand furniture is placed reflects the heat back onto the console. It is also important if it overheats, if possible, save the game and exit. Then turn off the console for at least 1 or 2 hours. The owerheaths Is very dangerous all consoles PC-s and IT systems I hope I could help. 😊😊😊 ❤❤❤+++
Mines exactly the same. I've tried sitting it vertically, horizontally. It just ramps the fan to 100% and it doesn't slow down until you close the game. PSVR2 is the same. It actually turns me off wanting to play it.
I bought the slim digital, I haven't even had it 48 hours and twice, I got the blue light of death!! I had it on my computer desk and the open and still did it. I ended up taking it back and just getting the original bigger version.
I have the same problem with my new PS5 Slim. The first day I bought it I played Resident Evil 3 and the fan was very loud. Other games like LEGO STAR WARS didn't demand as much from the console and you couldn't hear the fan at all. Has anyone had a very loud fan since the first day they bought the PS5 Slim?
When it's slim, that means the console don't have enough space to cool the heat off. One way is to put a fan behind the console and best if you can play in an airconditioned room.
@@JokerX350FALSE , I’ve owned multiple Ps5 consoles and there’s 3 different fan models randomly in each. Some are louder than others. I now have a slim and it seems to be a little quieter than this guys
It might be enough airflow but it’s a tiny cube so the system is heating up the air in there sucking hot air back in and not getting cool air. I’m willing to bet your fan is like that because you have it in essentially an oven.
The issue will still continue as long as you don't give the PS5 some room _in the back_ where the heat exhausts. Not rocket science.
Lmao not rocket science killed me 😂
It still shouldn't be that loud. Also, if he sets it up in an open space and it still makes that noise then that debunks your theory.

Playstation 2 was the pinnacle of sony computer entertainment.
My original fat ps3 lasted like 13- 15 years of descent use
Dude you’re killing it in that shelf
Good 👍
Exactly.
Yeah it has too be out in the open and clear of any obstruction
The fan is smaller so wouldn’t it have to be louder to compensate for the same amount of airflow? Smaller fans have to spin faster to match a bigger fan’s performance.
It was tested by LTT in an anechoic chamber (controlled environment) and there was no difference.
@@eggy6857the fan is more aggressive for the PS5 slim . It has 23 blades where as the o.g. only 19 to 20 blades.
When Linus tech tips did the sound test he said that it was slightly quieter then the og but that it was slightly louder coming from the disk drive. This guy didn’t mention if he was playing a digital game or using a disk. I have the ps5 digital only slim and it’s just as quiet as my fat distal ps5 that I got back in feb dude
I'm having the same issue, the noise only kicks in when in game. And I keep my ps5 slim in an "open" environment (on top of the cabinet) close to my TV

The air flow is kinda horrible because the back of the entertainment center isn’t open
that is not enough space for console to keep cool which is why the fans working overtime
Can you fit your hand behind though? Seems like its right up against the back of the cabinet? Not enough air flow.
No issues with mine and have mine inside a console. I open the door when playing and close when not in use.
i always avoid 1st iteration of every console release, they always have some kind of problems!
Even Slim models 😂😂 since I own the 1200 model and it's perfect and quiet.
I originally bought my PS3 slim when they were only out for a month and it still works fine now BUT the chassis sometimes makes loud cracking and snapping noises when it heats up. I don't know how common this is.
Except this is the 3rd revision.
No
@@pixelmentia no it isn't. This is the first model of the PS5 slim.
Bro the fan is louder because the fan is more powerful to man
That’s plenty of space, that not the issue.

It does not. But this guy is dead set on playing Fortnite.

I don’t know if this helps for someone but here’s my experience:
I got my ps5 “slim” one week ago, I had it set it up in a place like this guy, it was even bigger, 20 cm free on both sides and 30cm from the rear wall, I HAD THE SAME ISSUE, exactly same sound, yesterday I put it on top next to the tv and omg, problem fixed.
The problem is when you have the console in a closed space where the hot air can’t escape, doesn’t matter how big the space is, if it’s closed on the back the air will return to the console and that’s why it forces the vents to get it cooler. Get that console out of there
Me who’s been dealing with the PS4 Pro’s F/A-18 sounds
Appreciate the update! This is a great way to inform buyers that have similar setup environment.
I dont have any issues.
Bonjour my friend
I got mine at walmart on the 10th and still no issues ..... yikes
The cooling set up for the slim is better. If he takes his slim out of that closed in spot he won't have this issue.

You clearly have no idea how ventilation works. There's nowhere for the hot air to escape so it bounces off the back if the unit then gets pulled straight back in as it passes the intake
@@majorasspain5341had this exact problem is open air cool environment. It’s an internal issue causing the ringing. Not ventilation.

That ringing noise isn't an Issue as in your system gonna die issue BUT it's a fking annoying one lol. I hear it more on certain games like the map screen on ff16
It's the PSU.

Imagine going thru three ps5s and not realizing your ventilation sucks
Maybe your just horribly unlucky
he is considering that my ps5 is not having the same issues with worse ventilation

The PS5 Slim still has coil whine.
To the power supply that uses cheap, poor quality Chinese components.
The launch consoles are usually better with PlayStation for some reason. They always have issues with their slim models.
@@ClarkDent69yeah say ok lmaoo the fat ps5 had the loudest fan/ issues. Sony didnt do this variant like they did the previous shitty ps4 slim

The one problem I did encounter was with storm connections which was stuck on the loading screen online.
Dude heating is normal if u play for hours on a game
Definitely the placement and ambient temperature above 68° for sure
Far amount of space ? I’m getting claustrophobic just looking at that PS5
Your problem is that "you have a PlayStation 5" 20 years ago Xbox had overheating problems, today it is the Play 5 and apparently not even an improved version solves the problem of many.

The owerheaths Is very dangerous all consoles PC-s and IT systems
