I feel like - to make the most of these imperial javs - it is important to own the hybrid nature of the unit. Going all top for the daze makes him decent at dazing units and heroes, which is actually great for defense. They can't hit you when they are constantly dazed. For my battle flow, the trick is to first dump your first volley into a group of units or the face of a hero, and then engage in melee if you have the upper hand. In most 1 v 1 situations, that will be the case because the javelins wiped half the unit (or the hero). When in the thick of melee fighting you can just hit 1 and the second jav volley will wipe the rest. I sometimes play an entire game with just this unit that way, getting 100+ unit kills and 5+ hero kills. I also find that the map and positioning is very important with this unit. They are quite poor in large open spaces because enemies can walk out of your volleys. Put them on a narrow staircase, on a supply point, in a narrow street, or waiting at the top of a siege engine though and the highly clustered enemies mostly just eat your javelins and die. If I wanted full melee I would take a melee infantry unit. If I wanted to stay ranged I would take javelin sergeants or muskets. Another great use of this unit is that inexperienced players will underestimate them, get too close and become easy kills, and experienced players will be wary and not engage unless they think they can pull it off. I keep these guys around on my dual blades a lot, and enemy heroes will think twice before getting close. Allows you to be more aggressive with the hero. The main weakness I feel is that these guys are not so great against shields. I avoid those engagements at the moment. Currently leveling toward the block break on the unit tree, and I got the epic jav doctrine to try once they fix that. Perhaps that will change things (a bit). Just my experiences so far, just having elited the unit.
A great write up! Its a good point about their hybrid nature and something that I certainly struggle with (and is reflected in the video). This is probobly in part why I tend to prefer the jav sgts as they suck in melee so allow me to just focus on the range element. Glad to hear you're getting on really well with them though :-D
@@EvoLozGaming Thanks! I didn't think you really struggled with the unit to be honest, as much as that the sergeants are just better for your play style. You can handle the melee perfectly fine with your tanky dude, so having multiple ranged volleys to back you up is hugely beneficial. Thanks for the great video!
I’ve been watching a lot of your videos because of those ads, found you yesterday and watched a lot of videos. This is a great channel, good job. If I had a good pc I would download this game, but I have a rubbish pc.
This unit used to have "charge" attack were snipping ability. You could throw two volleys of javelin first then you can charge them to the enemy which was pretty effective. In supply defense they were really good with permanent ammo. If there was someone to reach and kill them melee just charge and see what happens. I got really milked with this guys in beginning of the game nearby 7-8 months ago. :)
@@EvoLozGaming Before the great UI changes and other overhaul before season 1, they had charge yes. Usually enemy thinks Javelin's job done when their ammo is empty, they were came and when they see charge i don't know what kind of shock is it? :D When i get bankrupt i still use some 2-3 star units roster like Pike Militia, Javelin Militia, Prefecture Archers etc. Javelin Militia has charge ability, still does good job.
Is the Assassination Doctrine really worth it on Javelins? When they hit the enemy hero is dead no matter what... so it seem to be a bit overkill putting a Assassination Doctrine on them. What do you think about the Assassination Doctrine at all? Looks like it is the perfect doctrine for every "Cover Commander" unit otherwise the Breakthrough Doctrine seem to be much more valueable.
Yes it is a little overkill and as you say better for cover commander units (I use one on my spear sergeants) but absolutely prefer the breakthrough doctrine but I seem to get a lot of assassination doctrines and very few breakthrough doctrines so a little limited on choice sometimes :)
Do you think it's worth to spend honor on unit upgrades in the tech tree? For high level unit those cost a lot BUT for 2* units you can give significant boost in power for a pretty cheap price and those are units that you end up using a lot. 2 Good example are ironcap archers and swordsmen: the archer can get extra range and precision while the swordsmen can get minus 6 seconds charge cooldown and plus 30% charge damage (going for the charge bonuses in the veterancy tree give a 35% bonus for comparison).
It's a good question. No super simple answer but i'd say possibly, if they are units you super regularly use then yes it can be but equally it's worth considering what else you could spend the honour on, you may well be preventing yourself from reaching higher tier units.
I've been pumping a lot of honor into my imperial javelineers and while I'm only 1/3 done with their upgrades, I've noticed a difference. If you total the damage boosts from tech it adds up to 30% extra damage plus the increased block break which is hard to quantify. If I'm only getting 10% now and I'm noticing a difference, I'd say the upgrades are well worth it if you're taking them to every battle like I am. But it all depends on whether the unit is a priority to you or if you're more interested in something else. There's a lot of other things you could do with that honor investment.
Just noticed you skipped over their unit tree upgrades. Any idea when they do slashing damage? They've got a unit tree upgrade for it, but when do they slash?
love the videos buddy! One question, im still kinda new so what's better man at arms or perfecure guards? i saw the video about man at arms but that one was really old so i dont know.
both are good, but if you're looking for a tankier unit, men at arms is better. they are stronger but cost more leadership because they are a higher tier unit. prefacture guards are a tier below so they cost less leadership but are still very solid. they have a prefacture drill which makes them fight better for a short time.
I really need to revisit the men at arms. I'm a big fan of the prefecture guards but haven't unlocked the later palace guards yet so cant really comment on them
i still use my squires even to fill that role and with my setup they still go toe to toe with prefecture guards (even did a test last week with a few m8s)
how you feel about bottom line in skill tree? also does it lower the cooldown between throws aswell (the 2 seconds reduction) -> instead of 5 between just 3? hope that makes sense^^

Not played the shortbow for a long long time so a little hard for me to comment to much but from generally what i've heard it's not quite as good as the normal bow or musket class
Really high burst damage but with that said you also rely on your abilities and combos. Is meh with meh gear but with good gear it's getting pretty powerful. Scales well with your own skill to. And you want to abuse the enemies weak spots. Like the head or on the back. Can beat any class in 1vs1s as shortbow you need to focus heroes and archers it you can't focus heroes. But it's a difficult class because I'd your doing none of those you will end up feeling like your doing nothing. Even with your ultimates you which is if you execute your combos well and for example with headshots can deal up to 15k damage against heavy armor but also a wholesome 1.5k if you don't... . But its not reliable and hard to execute. And I'm no longer a ultimate in shortbow as I swapped it out for the dodge. Pretty much a sum of shortbow funny enough people call the class underpowered and then there's me and type16 who make it look broken.
It’s a great support class against hero brawl but it relies heavily on the abilities. Really bad at wiping out units by themselves as it doesn’t really have a aoe skill that does much. It best at putting pressure on heroes in mass brawl.
