So shooting with something like a canon 7D Mk2, if I just need something to record longer format scenes like speeches, stage performances, weddings, etc and aren't in need of any of the cinematic tools needed for more sophisticated shooting, and need files that will play nice with Vegas Pro for editing, is this the tool I've been looking for? Do you know if it breaks up the recording into smaller files?
This looks like a great addition for my Sigma FP. I've been looking for something small and compact to overcome the fixed screen of the FP. Don't really need the recording functions given the amazing codecs the FP offers. All in all this looks killer, great video.
I've been looking for a 3 inch monitor to use on my BMPCC OG for casual shooting and this one is great! Please keep digging up these little gems Caleb :)
For cameras that shoot raw but disable backup recording, could you loop this to your atomos and record a backup of the raw recording? So raw HDMI into the Atomos and then hdmi viewing out of the atomos into this recorder to get a backup at 30 fps in 1080?
I have a 5D mk iii. I just need something to record nonstop for about two hours. Not really worried about the size or other features. Would this be good for that?
Great little device that will solve lots of problems for me, but: 1.Does it have recording limits? 2.What is the bitrate of the recorded files? 3.Does it split videos into small 10,20 or 30 minutes? 4.If the camera is set to 25fps instead of 30, will it record 25fps? 5.What is the container of the h264?Is it mp4 or mov?
The point of a monitor on your camera if you can't actually see it? 💀😂 as a professional videographer if you're going to be hauling the equipment anyways might as well take the right equipment
you know what could be cool ? one of those small Z Cams, maybe like the E1 or something like that, super small that makes THAT small monitor look "big". Great video as always Caleb !
I’d be happy to spend a little more for one of these that did 4k/30 and 1080p/60. But even just as a monitor with those features, the $169 price is very good.
@@affordablemediaproductions1 that's why I said "for my needs". Dual slot recording at much higher quality internally on the fx30, a7iv etc almost makes this monitor seem a bit gimmicky. No touch screen, clunky and primitive menu at a higher price point than monitors that feature all of the above sans internal recording. I'll pass.
Looks like you have a CON-tradiction in the "Cons" segment of this video. Earlier, at 1:40, you suggested that this monitor would take a 4K signal. . . but then at 7:20, you said the monitor _cannot_ take a 4K signal. What gives?
IKAN had a 4inch monitor , some years ago that was good for its price. I used it with the Blackmagic Micro Cinema Camera which was good because it fit perfectly on the small boxed camera. This looks like a good one!
This is perfect! I've been looking for something affordable that has HDMI passthrough that will allow me to check exposure, white balance, focus etc, cause the built-in monitor on my Lumix cameras just doesn't do a very good job.
Cool review. Always enjoy your content. Yes! “A smallest cinematic camera rig build” would be fun to watch. I followed your “ultimate handheld rig” build from 3 years ago. Did my own from your suggestions and love it!
Can you confirm if it records in 30 minute auto split files? I need a recorder like this for a basic backup recorder, but I need continuous files that aren't broken up. Thanks for the review!
Great run and gun monitor for my ZCAM S6! 1080p 30fps is fine for social and in a pinch. Been looking for something like this, thanks for scouring amazon for us! Also...may have missed it...but can you load luts on it?
Were you able to resolve the screen recording issue? I have the same situation. I want to record the process of a photo shoot, but I can’t find a budget and compact solution (Sorry for my English)
Hi Caleb, thank you for another informative video! I just want to confirm: If I want to record in camera 4k and use the monitor to record as a back up (I know it will be 1080p) will that be possible? you did that in your video but you also said you have to feed it a 1080p signal. I do a lot of one time interviews and worry if the camera fails and want a recorder as a back up to still get the information. Thank again, Jesse
Can you make a video from the beginning to the end how you use your camera what settings you use, how you edit, what kind of light you see, thank you so much

Considering using this as a waist level viewfinder for the new Lumix S5iiX. Do you think this monitor would work on that body? I’m using it for stills. Thanks!
Another interesting option, if you can find it, is the old Atomos Ninja Star. Just a recorder without a monitor, but very small and runs forever off of a single NPF550. Records 1080p 24p or 30p in Prores 422 HQ, with my Nikon Z6 I can send an oversampled 1080p image to it to get 10 bit NLOG while keeping the setup compact.
@@josephchristoffel Yes but Dynamic Range and color are more important, plus the 1080p is downsampled in-camera from 4k to 1080p so you get some extra detail.
This is useless. You have bigger monitors for the same money and the recording is useless, because the camera does it better. The main question is why some company does not decide to do a budget 10 bit 4k 422 recorder? It shouldn’t cost as much as it does. Maybe there is one that I’m not aware of?
Only realised these things are available. Is there a budget monitor just mainly for still shooting? I only need one so that other people can see what is in my camera viewfinder. Thanks.

Does anyone know where I can buy one of these? There's no more available in the link😢

Ha! I didn't mention it in the video (should have) but I feel like this was invented for the FP!
Or the Blackmagic Micro or Pocket!
This would probably be sick for older cams!
You're exactly right. Seems pointless to have on an A7Slll or any newer camera. Tiny sceeen for how large it actually is.
Absolutely! And poor souls using the Sigma FP 😂

automatically resamples + reformats all incoming video to 1080p30? that's an automatic proxy generator right there.
Only if your main video recording fps is 30 too.
i *just* saw this on amazon yesterday. LOL what timing.
Caleb, pls test if this is feasible to use with those loupe/finders to use this as an evf. See if the image is good and the pixels isn't to obvious.
Oh that would be awesome for the fx30

Could be sweet with an eos m maybe
