the fact that the oil filter is on top makes it easier than most vehicles and to say something is easier when talking about working on a BMW is a rarity
Great video. Use the same filter. I have a couple different techniques: ramps for wheels (no jacking, no BMW required jack pads either), pre-oil the o-rings slightly for “sure” seal and reload the oil filter to decrease the amount of time engine is “dry” of oil during first start up after change. And I am sure you are aware, Castrol and Mobil 1 both make the euro spec oil for the N54 and it’s commonly avail at Wally World. Thx for vid!
Lee, Pelican Parts in their DIY oil change write up state that if you don't loosen the oil filter housing lid first, you will leave about 1 liter of old oil in there. So if this is true, you'd have 6.8 qts + 1 L in your engine at the moment.
And wet the tiny o-ring with oil before installing it onto the bird cage piece, also wet the large o-ring with oil before reinstalling oil filter cap. Lastly, it's not a bad idea to wet the oil filter by soaking it briefly in the 6.8qts of clean oil you will add to the car, as well as pouring 1-2 quarts of your 6.8qts into the oil filter housing before installing the filter. Then pour the remaining ~5qts into the normal oil filler cap.
@@bradleygroenhof8183 With aluminium I meant the motor block, but I noticed the N54 has steel cylinder liners, so a magnetic drain plug might be a good idea.
