    Did my own oil change today with the help of my boyfriend’s tools. It doesn’t cost much to have someone else do it, but I enjoyed being in control of how my car is treated. Thank you!

    A good thing too do is measure your oil once drained and if it was full to the gauge you will know how much to replace and also know your gauge is accurate ! Very important in the event you have to change out the part you will have to empty all your oil ! So it will be PMI !

      @LDSreliance  9 лет назад

      +DanieI Joseph Yeah, I did the same thing. Would have still been nice to have a dip stick since you have to run the car for 5+ minutes to check the oil level and if it was really low that would be damaging.

    Great vid! Just bought a 2009 335i coupe and was gonna take it for an oil change, i'm assuming everything should be located at the same places? What was the total cost for everything including the tool for the filter?

    • @LDSreliance
      @LDSreliance  8 лет назад

      If you have the N54 engine, which you do, then it will all be the same on your car. The total cost is around $50-60 to do it yourself with full synthetic, European car approved oil. Maybe less if you get a good price on the oil.

  • @atomicbear1
    @atomicbear1 3 года назад +1

    You forgot to mention the one-time use copper “crush washer” that comes with the filter (in the bag with the o-rings) that goes on your oil drain plug to replace the old one. Cheers for the video though.

    Do you have to drain the oil from beneath the car first in order for no oil to spill out when removing the oil filter ?

    • @LDSreliance
      @LDSreliance  7 лет назад +1

      They definitely want you to think that! They love to charge people $125-200 for an oil change that you can do yourself for $35 and under an hour of your time. Only thing different than a domestic is you need that special wrench to open the housing that the oil filter resides in. But that is a cheap $20 one time cost and then you are set for the life of the vehicle.

    On scream shows minimum and +1l , I'll fill up hole litre and right now is to much I thing so !
    On scale is little over max. Level engine works so suspect for me it's obviously no good but do I suit pump out 500ml ?
    Or what ?just live as it is ?

      It only starts if you have your foot on the brake pedal at the same time. If you just push it without pushing the brake then it will simply turn on everything else except the engine (like the stereo, gauges, etc.).

  • @henryt9254
    @henryt9254 10 лет назад

    Absolutely hate the cartridge filter because once you unscrew the cap, all the trapped dirty oil flows back to the oil sump. Although it will drain out, but the trapped metal filings all drains back to the oil sump. Toyota has a better solution in which the oil cartridge is mounted upside down and there is a little valve to discharge all the dirty oil before you unscrew the cover off.

    • @LDSreliance
      @LDSreliance  10 лет назад

      Henry TingYeah that is a good point. I have never owned a car or truck with a filter like that and I still don't understand why they decided to do it that way. Its not like you can change the oil without getting under the car or something.

    who can explain to me why this process is worth $100 at BMW dealerships though?

    • @LDSreliance
      @LDSreliance  8 лет назад

      I'm surprised that is all they charge you. For some reason, they think their fluids (genuine BMW oil, coolant, etc.) are worth their weight in gold. They also think since you can afford such a vehicle that you can afford to pay double what a job is worth.

    • @mistrimeat
      @mistrimeat 8 лет назад +1

      LOL...I wish it was only $100, then I wouldn't have to do it myself. Every time it's at least $300, and of course they will try and hit you up for other "necessary/overdue" service items once they get your car on the lift. Chalk it up to BMW cost of ownership.

      Yeah, I don't think you can get out of any BMW dealership with a synthetic oil change for $100.

      I believe the OEM oil is. You can get it through the dealership or in bulk online. The oil I used meets the same spec and standard, though, and is more readily available.

      +Fire Man Dan thank you for making two comments on my correction. Unfortunately they are both wrong. I know of and have used a socket wrench where it is applicable. He is not using a socket wrench. He is using a RATCHET. Thanks for your uninformed input.

      +Bradley D I'm uninformed yet you can't count? Where did I make two comments on your "correction"? Also again you are wrong. The OP even linked the Wikipedia definition which proved you were wrong. What fact are you basing your uninformed opinion on?

    • @bradleydavison2853
      @bradleydavison2853 9 лет назад

      +Fire Man Dan Yea I can't count. You removed one of the replies. Show's how childish and petty you are. Grow up. You're wrong. Using Wikipedia as a reference wow. I know you are uneducated now as any idiot knows Wikipedia is littered with erroneous information. For my correct assertions of the instrument he is using on his car, I base that on what he is holding in his hand. It is not a socket wrench. A socket wrench has different sizes of sockets that are physically attached to the the wrench. What he is using is an entirely different tool that allows for the changing of sizes at on a singular attachment point. I find actually quite comical that you feel that need to interject your opinion(incorrect i will add again) on a comment made as a light hearted rib of something that is so trivial.
      Your opinion is wrong.
      Grow up it was a joke.
      Get a life.
