      As an everyday car or just cruising on occasion?? I wonder about the practicality of getting something semi-old like that if its still pretty unused.
      I imagine parts rarity causing increase in maintenance prices... but if its in good enough shape maybe maintenance could still be minimal

      hey so i can kinda answer this for you. i dont own a trans am but i do have a 93 3.4L v6 firebird and i can tell you they are very reliable cars. my firebird is my daily and its just a dream to own, parts arent the worst to get but i know its super easy to get parts on say a '02 trans am. i recommend watching review videos for further detail. @@julioxstaticv3782

      Another Firebird has started gaining in popularity.
      It's the Gen Four v6 version.
      It's much easier to drop a 6.0 LS in one of those years than any of them.
      Believe me,...cloning will be a big issue with these cars.

  • @tommyistommy
    @tommyistommy Год назад +3

    Gotta respect the sleek beak! Don't tell the guys who worship the ws6 but...they really aren't any more rare than a non ws6 package. The production numbers are basically identical, nearly every 2002 trans am was a ws6 while the 98s were nearly all base t/a models.
    I own a base 99 and a 01 formula, the formula 4th gen is FAR more rare than any trans am. Hell a ws6 formula is the real unicorn.
    It doesn't matter what flavor it is, the 4th gen f bodies are criminally underrated. They were dirt cheap forever and neglected. Now they sell for more than c5s and I see why. It's more raw, more connected, harder to find in good condition and lower production. Great cars, future classics that can be enjoyed everyday today.

    • @shanedoink
      @shanedoink Год назад +2

      FINALLY someone that gets it!!!! Couldn’t agree more. This is my 3rd 4th gen “Firebird” and yes too many people worship an RPO code. Tell them there was a WS6 Formula they look confused. Sure it has a cool hood, bigger wheels and beefier sway bars. Line these up for a 1/4 and it’s a drivers race. A lot of WS6 owners throw a lot of shade to the real unicorn the Firehawk. Most people that know nothing about these cars think a WS6 is every single 98-02 TA they see. Happens all the time when I’m out and someone talks to me about my TA.
      At the end of the day a Formula, TA with or without the WS6 option is the same car. I bought a low mile, 6 speed car that was blk on blk and mint in my price point. All TransAm bodied WS6 packages and Firehawks were on the list, but the car had to be right, no matter what the trim was. Just as long as it had low miles, 6 speed and was blk.
      Again thanks for commenting and getting it.

    • @tommyistommy
      @tommyistommy Год назад +1

      @@shanedoink I actually prefer the look of the base or Firehawk hood. My TA came with a trufiber WS9 hood brand new, it's in my office. I really have no desire to put it on either bird...But yes, there's a disconnect in terms of what a RPO code even is. People think my formula is a V6 which I understand but they also think my TA is!
      I bought my formula first, same reasons as you...I wanted a black interior 6 speed. Then I found a really low mile well kept TA at a great price and couldn't resist. The production variances on these cars are wild, my formula is MUCH faster than my TA. I have a staggered 18 inch setup on the TA and stock wheels on the formula, I honestly think the square smaller setup feels better. Now I am running 245/45r16s on the formula and 265/35r18 and 285/35r18 turn in is faster and it actually hooks better with more sidewall, running an identical tire.
      Maybe I'm crazy, I've always liked the more subtle look. To me, a formula is my favorite 4th gen. You get the popups, way nicer firebird interior (vents, seats, gauges, colors) without the extra TA weight. And you don't have to look like a catfish. Hell I'd buy a lt1 trim Camaro today for the same reasons

    • @shanedoink
      @shanedoink Год назад +1

      @@tommyistommy yeah my 01 base TA (bought new) felt faster than the formula I had and even this TA I currently own(both no mods and 1 owner cars). And it was faster than a fair amount of the more desirable optioned SS, WS6 and Firehawk cars. Some of the “production variances” as you said are very evident. Some come off the assembly line just faster and there’s no explaining why. I feel like that was the case with 87-93 Fox body stangs as well.
      As it is, I’m glad there are still a few sleek beak fans out there. I won’t argue that collectors view WU8, WU6, WS6, 1LE are the codes most wants. But at the end of the day, no matter the RPO codes, the one that matters - LS1. 98-00 cars. Thanks Tommy - find me on IG @shanedoink

And a shoe box size dent in the rear quarter panel thanks to a small Christmas tree falling into the side of the car... The vehicle as a clean and clear title and has never been in a crash or accident and is mechanically perfect and fully loaded and is in Champaign silver with t-tops etc had asked the flowmaster dual exhaust system to give you the full tail pipes fully functional and a k&n or a metal air filter of some description at the front.

      @@firebird5288 A decent one was 10k-15k for a long time. Look at the price for LS1 Z's and SS cars, the T/A's were basically the same price for most of their life. I think 5-6 years ago they were at their lowest.
      That's crazy the WS6 you're looking at is 40k. The one I just bought is black, auto, 65,400 miles, and was a one owner, garage-kept car. It was all original and in excellent condition. Not quite a show car, it had some rock chips and things on the nose from being driven, but it is beautiful. I paid about half what you're talking about. It wasn't a bad deal, but I thought wow the market on these has really gone up.
      Cool that you got a nice Firebird. Enjoy it, love having people in the Firebird family!

      @@bradleylovej 3 years ago I passed up the opportunity to by a 30th anniversary Trans Am. They wanted $22k for it but it had too many issues for me to justify buying it. Was beautiful, but it had a yellowing interior, missing WS.6 badge, faded decals and even had permanent marker on the seats. When it comes to Firebirds, I'm very picky, ha ha.
      The one that I want only has 6k miles on it.
      I'll get a WS.6 again someday, but it's great being back in the Firebird family.

    • @shanedoink
      @shanedoink 2 года назад

      Reliable - the LS1 is indeed, just do the required maintenance. The car as a whole, different story. If you want a “reliable” car, buy the Lexus SC or Honda Prelude (which I had a 1992 Prelude S and loved it, fun and reliable). This is not my daily driver so it does not see daily use. Just understand these were built cheap, like most domestic cars designed in the 90s. If maintained properly it will last. But how did the previous owner(s) care for the car? That’s the unknown. Again, if it’s not your daily, go get one of these. Just know the higher miles, X amount of previous owners - cars out there will potentially lead to a car you find having more and more issues. In this case I found a 1 owner car that garage kept it. Hope all that helped.

      If you are capable of turning wrenches (or hiring help) it’s a great car to own, rock solid engine and the 6 speeds are very stout as well, in my case I’ve driven my ws6 about 40,000 miles (got it with 77k now it’s coming up on 120k) in the last 5 years and it’s given me a few headaches but it’s been well worth it, aside from having to replace the clutch once and get rid of the 10 bolt rear after a couple toothless ring gears for an s60, all I’ve done beyond regular maintenance is an alternator and a power steering pump, oh and knock sensors but I was already getting in there for the ls6 intake swap, other than that and a couple other little odds and ends I’ve had and am still having a blast with mine!

    Any big differences between this and ws6?

    • @shanedoink
      @shanedoink 2 года назад +1

      No, they both have the same LS1 engine, same trans options.
      The WS6 package will have the ungraded 17 in wheels, ram-air hood (giving it 15 HP more(20 HP more on 96-97 LT1 cars)), and the suspension - via thicker sway bars. Shocks might be different but not 100% sure.

      As far as Civics go for a first car, it’s a good car. It may not be a crowd pleaser - having owned 5 Hondas - but they are what they are… reliable and a decent car.
      If you want one of these firebirds for a first car, the good part is the engine is pretty reliable, they rest of the car is cheap and built cheaply.
