Hey Bobby, you should make a video showing the best way to get started in jewelry using the bare minimum and just make a simple ring. I think this would be really cool because I really want to get into crafting jewelry but don't know where to get started. It would be very helpful to know what types of metals are easiest and cheapest to find/buy but will also look good and be good quality and also how to melt them down and actually craft them into the shape of a ring whether its in a mould or just shaping a bar of the metal. He has been working for about two years making videos and instructional guides for jewelry making. He was a professional jewelry in London for 20+ years and now he is sharing his knowledge with the RUclips community. He has videos on tools, techniques, design and loads more. If you combine Bobby White’s channel with Diamond Mounter, you will learn tons. Chris Bilton is just as critical about the fitting, symmetry, POLISHING and finish work. If you watch Chris Bilton describe what he is doing you will be able to pick apart how Bobby nails bespoke fine jewelry. But you have to have the motivation to keep doing the work. I’m a former military sniper, so I have a lot of patience and I’m comfortable sitting in the same place, doing the same thing over and over for extended periods of time always working on making my jewelry better. I’m also very good at learning just by watching other craftsman work. I will be honest. I never took a class, read a book or anything. I just bought the essential tools. Watched Bobby for a year and earlier this year I sold my 11 piece for over $10,000. Watch Bobby White and Chris Bilton; Bobby motivates me and Chris has given me the skills and techniques to make my own jewelry business that is on fire. I still haven’t had any formal training. But give me the time and I make one of a kind Bespoke pieces that I’m sure Bobby and Chris would approve of.
You need everything in this video except the microscope and the drill if you only want to make a simple ring. And there is still more stuff to get that bobby didn't mention. It is a expensive and precise craft you can't and don't want to cheap your way to it because you will see it in your work. The best way to get started is to go to school for gold smithing. If you mainly want to make jewelry.
I took a class at my local college. It was good enough to give me the basics, learn techniques and skills and give me access to the tools. Did that for 2 semesters before I decided to invest in the more expensive tools. You can develop by yourself after a class and the your tube videos will make more sense. Rio grande has a bunch of videos for beginner jewelers and artists.
@@thereisa that's so cool, i almost did the exact same. Only I followed a full-time study for 2 semesters. Sadly I found out it isn't for me, but i don't regret it one bit. It made me appreciate craftsmanship even more and I learned a lot of important skills from it. I also think taking lessons in a field like this is the absolute best thing to do since you can get instant feedback on your work and help with your technique which a RUclips video can't.
Great advice, particularly about the passion for jewelry making! My mom and dad always liked to wear jewelry. So I grew up around jewelry. But nobody in my family makes it, except for me. I started making jewelry at about 11. I would use silverware and make rings. In high school, one of the shop classes offered was jewelry Making! Of course, I enrolled. I would often take my projects home. There you would find me standing in my bedroom under the only source of light, a wall sconce, for hours (5-10+) carving rings with pins or anything else that would carve wax. It was then, I knew what I wanted to do with my life. My school entered my work in the citywide industrial art contest and I won fist place! That sealed it for me! And now, at 55 years of age I've been making jewelry for 44 years. I have done other things for income, but jewelry making is always there! Jewelry making chose me! And I'm grateful for that!
I agree with the list not only since I’m a part time tafe course student who does jewellery design but I have worked with most of these tools and you will need em if your doing professional jewellery or going thru an apprenticeship and it ain’t easy but it is rewarding

What he says about platinum is super important . I was quenching a bar of platinum in spirits to soften it . The spring tweezers I used were old and shot the bar out to the bottom of the jar the platinum was still so hot it cracked the glass and set my bench alight . Was not fun but my bench has a nice blackend finish to it now

Can you believe I was able to get a starting stone setting microscope for under 500? I don't wanna name drop on your channel, but there is a brand that's kind enough now to give some very affordable options.
I've come to learn that collecting jewellery tools shouldn't be rushed, most of theses tools will last a lifetime so you should be picky and buy the good stuff as you go to avoid buying twice! Also some advice that would be great for anybody is to find a retiring jeweler and buy their tools, they'll have everything you need and more for a fraction of the price you'll pay for something new.
I have all tools except for one, a microscope. I don't think I'll ever lose interest in making jewelry, I also just bought a faceting machine and am going to get started faceting stones.😁

Can you please recommend as many different sets both standard AND needle files. I hope that makes sense lol… I do waffle on… so oopssss……..…. My bad 🤷🏼♀️ (sorry not sorry) 😂. So, so many jewellers don’t use a microscope, or any optics whatsoever - one amazing jeweller i know didn’t use anything up until the age of 40 when his vision started getting worse, and even then he went for a headband magnifier. I honesly don’t know how people do it - even a super cheap microscope can be quite good and make an enormous difference. I’m also curious about what speed you really saw at 😄
I dunno if anyone has asked this question but, that liquid that is with those little bits you paint on to solder pieces together (I love it when it heats up and it just sucks into the gap between the two pieces)...is that water?

I have a 14k wedding band that I need to make smaller. Could I do it with house hold items? Until I take it to a local jeweler or do it myself, I have a string wrapped around so it won't fall off. It was passed down to me from family. So it is special. Or I would just have bought a new one my size.
you can get a ring resized easily at pretty much any jewelry store. i’m not 100% sure about the price but it’ll be under $100 for sure so it’s definitely worth it. if its very sentimental and depending on how much metal is removed you could ask the jeweler to save that metal and make something else for you like a little pendant or something(for a price obv).

The first time I ever used a jeweller's hacksaw I used a thimble until I got the feel of the cut.
I completely forgot how many times I cut myself with a saw when I first started.😂🤣. Superglue and keep it going.

I have a 14k wedding band that I need to make smaller. Could I do it with house hold items? Until I take it to a local jeweler or do it myself, I have a string wrapped around so it won't fall off. It was passed down to me from family. So it is special. Or I would just have bought a new one my size.

you can get a ring resized easily at pretty much any jewelry store. i’m not 100% sure about the price but it’ll be under $100 for sure so it’s definitely worth it. if its very sentimental and depending on how much metal is removed you could ask the jeweler to save that metal and make something else for you like a little pendant or something(for a price obv).
