Hey Brendon. Great list as always. One of my favorites is Cheap Trick Live at Budokon. The live version of I Want You To Want Me is so cool. Studio wise it sounded almost country then you get the live version that just rocks!! Thanks again for another great topic and video!!
The mighty Cheap Trick, always killing it live, and this one was PERFECTION! It will sound good a thousand years from now! The mighty Cheap Trick are STILL amazing on stage and putting out stellar albums - in awe of their greatness! Great pick!
@@treff9226 My late friend called me one afternoon and said "You have to come over and jam with me". As it had been a hard day ay work I said "Maybe tomorrow". He said "No get over here now!" So when I got there and walked into his studio there was Rick Nielsen. My friend Ric knew I loved Cheap Trick and that's why he was so adamant I came over. Nielsen was in town buying a guitar from another friend Pete who owned Pete's Guitar shop in St. Paul, MN. It was a great night, sadly Pete Alenov died in a car accident a few months later. Pete sold guitars to every famous musician alive. Look him up you will see what I mean
@@laudanum669 I never commented on this mind blowing story! Holy Shnikees! Rick freakin' Nielson, who can do no wrong with me, his sense of melody and tone, while also playing very loud and killing it with fist pumping solos and killer riff after riff (the dude can really sing some nice background vocals, as well!) was right there with you - in the studio!?!? Gave me goosebumps reading this!!! You, my friend, have lived a good life! Thanks for a great post! Keep cranking all these later day Trick albums - they're excellent! 🎸🎸🎸🎸
Strangers in the Night by UFO is at the top of my list. Three others I would include in my top 10 are Frampton Comes Alive, Foghat Live, and Judas Priest-Unleashed in the East.
Oh my, Kevin nails it! UFO - Strangers In The Night increases the power of early UFO studio tracks, which had pretty weak and thin production, into towering monuments of stellar riffs and jaw dropping solos, combined with stellar rhythm section ( Pete Way! ) and Phil's perfect hard rock vocals! Of course the main star here is Michael Schenker, who unleashes every ounce of his stellar dexterity, tone and attitude here, with the highly creative and melodic soloing dropping collective jaws worldwide! Schenker ON FIRE! ROCK BOTTOM alone, has caused many hard rock fans to live better lives! Holy smokes, this live recording, which has been doctored up a bit ( who cares! ) is the gold standard for live concert recordings, I'd give a kidney to have been at this concert......and a lung!🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
@@rolandoflores7626 Yessir! From what I've been told, I had a jolly good time in the 70's! I'm sure you had more than a few laughs yourself! My all time band owned the 70's, basically saving rock and roll.....can you guess who that is? .
My top 10 are 1 UFO- Strangers in the Night 2 Scorpions Tokyo Tapes 3 Thin Lizzy Life Live 4 Iron Maiden Live After Death 5 Uriah Heep 73 Live 6 Rory Gallagher- Stage Struck 7 Judas Priest Unleashed in the East 8 M.S.G- Live Budakon 9 Fates Warning- 30th anniversary Awaken The Gaurdian 10 B.O.C - On Your Feet on your Knees
Hi Brendon 1. End of an Era - Nightwish 2. Made in Japan - Deep Purple 3. Live - Stephen Stills 4. Live Alive - Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble 5. Captured Live - Johnny Winter 6. A Bigger Bang - Rolling Stones 7. Caught In The Act - Grand Funk Railroad 8. Live! In Europe - Rory Gallagher 9. Live - Status Quo 10. Wings Over America - Wings
Without doubt AC/DC “ If You Want Blood “ . I heard that and it blew me away and a love affair with the band and rock music was born ! Fantastic record catching the band at the peak.
My buds and I used to have full on " air guitar, drums, vocals " concerts in his car, with his killer stereo at full volume and me absolutely nailing every Angus riff and solo to perfection.......at least that's how I remember it!!!🎶🎶🎶🎶🎸🎸🎸🎸🤘🤘 If You Want Blood is the definition of rawk and roll at its most sizzling, it drips with sweat and energy. You rock!
Some of my personal favourites: Motorhead - No Sleep Til Hammersmith Alice in Chains - Unplugged Neil Young & Crazy Horse - Arc Weld Bruce Springsteen and E Street Band 1975-1985 The Who - Live at Leeds Metallica - Binge and Purge
Stellar list! Finally purchased Alice In Chains unplugged disc, I though I had already had it, all these years ago! That Motorhead disc is as good as live metal gets - chips teeth!🤘🤘🤘
Damn, I had that deluxe Leppard Pyromania disc in my hands a week ago ( used at Bookoff for nine bucks! ) and passed on it, due to not knowing how good the live stuff sounded......big miss right there! CRAP!
Kansas: Two For The Show(the reissue, more songs on it) Dire Straits: Alchemy Supertramp: Paris These three are well engineered/produced, and catches the artists at their peak(yes, Dire Straits too, this was their best lineup, the best versions of these tracks) Also: The Who: Live At Leeds UFO: Strangers In The Night Genesis: Seconds Out and Three Sides Live Jethro Tull: Bursting Out Pink Floyd: Pulse Rush: Exit Stage Left
Want that Supertramp album now after reading your comment - knew it was probably top - shelf! Great picks - Live At Leeds forever cemented The Who as legendary live band, simply astonishing power, with Pete playing like a savage, nearly heavy metal sounding sonics! Played it a few weeks ago with my windows open and all the cats and dogs in my neighborhood are now missing! 🎸🎶🎸🎶
I don't have 10 LPs but I have some that I like and mostly these LPs contain, for me, better versions of songs than appear on the studio LPs. 1.Neil Diamond - Hot August Night (1973) - this has definitive versions of many of his greatest songs (it is basically a greatest hits done live with a band and a full orchestra). 2.Little Feat - Late Night Truck Stop (2001) - a show from 1973 with tracks from their self titled debut, Sailin' Shoes & Dixie Chicken. 3.Rolling Stones - Ladies And Gentlemen (2017) - from their 1972 Exile On Main Street tour.I love the Mick Taylor era of the band the most. This is better than the other live Stones LPs I've heard. 4.Status Quo - Live (1977) - A show at the Glasgow Apollo in 1976. It has better versions of many of their most well known songs up to that point. 5.Graham Parker and the Rumour - Live San Francisco (2009) - Concert from 1979 on the "Squeezing Out Sparks" tour. Why he broke up this band still puzzles me. 6.Billy Joel - Songs From The Attic (1981) - This LP deliberately doesn't contain the big hits up to this point.he wanted his (then) new band to re-record thiese tracks.
Greetings from Northumberland. Hi Brendon cool chat.. My favourite live albums would be Pat Travers Band - 'Go Gor What You Know' what a line up. IronMaiden 'Live After Death' a classic nuff said. Beth Hart & Joe bonamassa live in Amsterdam just wow this woman can sing. Scorpions - 'Tokyo Tapes Sammy Hagar - Live Loud & Clear Status Quo - Quo Live UFO - Strangers in the Night Blackfoot- Highway Songs Live Queen - Live Killers Love love all these n there's more Buy the way how good is Overkills new album !! Awesome stuff, kicks Metallica's Overlong newun to the kerb😂
Pat Travers SMOKES! HE WAS BORN TO TAKE THE STAGE, AXE IN TOW! That Travers album, with stellar cast around him, makes me feel good all over! Tommy Aldridge monster drummer!
Superb list! I'll give it a whirl too: 1. Iron Maiden Live After Death 2. Kiss Alive! 3. Judas Priest Unleashed In The East 4. Queensryche LiveCrime 5. Rush Exit Stage Left 6. Scorpions World Wide Live 7. Ac/Dc Live 8. Thin Lizzy Live And Dangerous 9. Iced Earth Live In Athens 10. Pat Travers Band Go For What You Know
1) Thin Lizzy - Live And Dangerous 2) UFO - Strangers 3) Rainbow - On Stage 4) Led Zeppelin - Song Remains 5) Black Sabbath - Live Evil 6) Deep Purple - Made In Japan 7) Humble Pie - Rockin the Fillmore 8) Hendrix - Band Of Gypsies 9) AC/DC - If You Want Blood 10) Jethro Tull - Burstin Out
UFO - Strangers in the Night Shaman - Ritual Live ( I found this band in 2022) Blackfoot- Highway Song live Savatage - Live in Japan Judas Priest - Unleashed in the East Wishbone Ash - Live Dates Yes - Yes Songs Tesla - Comin at you alive Rush - All the World's a Stage Scorpions- Tokyo Tapes Tip: One Desire - Live in Helsinki Great melodic rockband!
Strangers In The Night is my favorite live album. The two songs you mentioned that are live in the studio were released last year on RSD on vinyl without the crowd noise.
The greatest live album of all time - Strangers In The Night is flawless.....so is Michael Schenker! Riff after riff after riff.....solo after solo after solo....rinse, lather repeat!🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🤘🤘🤘
@@treff9226I would pick Made in Japan as number one, without hesitation, but UFO, Strangers in the Night as number two on the list. That album (UFO), is really something else. Every track on that live album is a huge statement of the greatness of UFO as a band. The bass lines by mr. Pete Way on Out in the Street is amazing and the version of Rock bottom, including the solo is stunning. I am a huge Deep Purple fan and everyone always talks about "the big three". I don´t support that statement - at all. I would rather say, "the big five", that is Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Deep Purple, but I would include Uriah Heep and UFO, as well. Both Uriah Heep and UFO had a huge influence on the hard rock scene during the 1970´s and later on the upcoming genre, heavy metal. Strangers in the Night is one of the absolute top live albums of all time.
Made In Japan will leap from the friggin' speakers fifty years from now, it is Deep Purple showing their dazzling musicianship and unholy chemistry! No studio trickery going on with this ACTUAL live album. I put it up there with Thin Lizzy-Live And Dangerous, Allman Bros. Live At Fillmore East, The Who-Live At Leeds, Motorhead-No Sleep Till Hammersmith, Scorpions-Tokyo Tapes, Iron Maiden-Live Long Beach Arena, Little Feat-Waiting For Columbus and Ted Nugent's Double Live Gonzo. Many more but I'm tired and can't think right now. Yeah, Uriah Heep has to be THE most undervalued of all the heavyweight hard rock bands from the 70's, no doubt! Zep is atop my Mt. Rushmore of bands, and while there are certainly some erratic live performances from Jimmy and company (heroin doesn't improve stage performance, plus Page loved to improvise and play extremely loose) they never had a stellar live recording from one concert. Really diggin' all the modern day Deep Purple releases, they just keep putting out stellar material, lovin the two new songs I've heard. Some other great live performers: Foghat, Pat Travers, Mountain, Cream, Hendrix of course, Humble Pie and I will always have a soft spot for Kiss-Alive, those early songs explode on Alive, unlike the limp studio recordings, even though we all know Alive wasn't really truly a live recording😁. Great post, my friend!
No particular order: Rush: All the World's a Stage Led Zeppelin: The Song Remains the Same Iron Maiden: Live After Death Motorhead: What's Words Worth? Neil Young & Crazy Horse: Live Rust Scorpions: Toyko Tapes Blue Oyster Cult: Extraterrestrial Live Stevie Ray Vaughn & Double Trouble: Live Alive Ted Nugent: Double Live Gonzo Peter Frampton: Frampton Comes Alive Thanks Brendon 💯
Greatest live albums for me, this is the list I would choose; 10. Whitesnake - Live in the Heart of the City 9. Kiss - Alive 8. Scorpions - Tokyo Tapes 7. Judas Priest - Unleashed in the East 6. Rainbow - On stage 5. Motörhead - No sleep til Hammersmith 4. Thin Lizzy - Live and dangerous 3. Deep Purple - Live in Stockholm 1970 2. UFO - Strangers in the Night 1. Deep Purple - Made in Japan
Nice list. Like you, I'm not always taken by live albums but they occasionally hit the spot. My favourite is probably REO Speedwagon's Live - You Get What You Play For, from 1977. Best CD edition is the Cherry Red Early Years boxed set, which is a complete version of the original double album.
I saw ZZ Top on the Eliminator and Recycler tours, Def Leppard on the Pyromania tour, Motley Crue on the Shout At The Devil tour, Scorpions on the Love At First Sting tour, AC/DC on the Fly On The Wall tour, I saw Kiss on the Animalize and Asylum tours. I did not get to see Whitesnake, Deep Purple, or UFO :( None of them were absolutely perfect live but, they were amazing in the moment. I think the live albums have to do a little fixing here and there (especially if it's a single show) to recreate the live experience and the awe that you feel in the crowd when a band you love is pumping out heavy decibels. I never like the nitpickey comments about live albums for that reason. My favorites are pretty much all suspected of overdubbing but, I say, they better have! I want that thing to take me to the show not make me stop listening to them because they stink live. I am not a fan of the absurd extended jamming in live albums like Deep Purple Live in Japan and others from that era were doing. A quick list for me: 10) Ted Nugent ~ Double Live Gonzo 09) UFO ~ Strangers In The Night 08) Kiss ~ Alive II 07) Rush ~ Exit Stage Left 06) Scorpions ~ World Wide Live 05) Lynyrd Skynyrd ~ One More From The Road 04) Thin Lizzy ~ Live and Dangerous 03) Whitesnake ~ Live In The Heart Of The City 02) Iron Maiden ~ Live After Death 01) Judas Priest ~ Unleashed In The East HM) Triumph ~ Stages, Peter Frampton ~ Frampton Comes Alive!
Black Crowes Freak N Roll Into the Fog , not just live , but an overall favorite of the band . Versions of Seeing Things , Non Fiction and Jealous , plus covers of Space Captain and The Night They Drove Dixie . Unbelievable live record , along with the DVD . The horn section and the Fillmore history . I like Poison Swallow This , because I always felt the studio record was too polished by that Beau Hill dude .
I just got the blu-ray version of Freak 'n' Roll and was completely blown away! The setlist was great and the band's energy was through the roof. I love that they played "Welcome to the Good Times" because it's my favorite from 'By Your Side.'
@@lateramae I read Gormans book and was let down to know the band didn’t like By Your Side . I followed the Crowes since I was 12! To me that album was a return to Shake form . Kickin My Heart Around is quintessential Crowes .
@@zakkjagneaux2600 The record label didn't care for The Black Crowes, which is why that album completely sank. I think the songwriting is better on 'Amorica' and 'Three Snakes and One Charm' even, but 'By Your Side' is more rocking.
I was at that first Kiss alive show at Cobo Arena in Detroit...May 16, 1975, as a 17 yo about ready to graduate from HS punk. What a show...very visceral, and a BIG thanks to my cool, rocker older sis who bought the tickets!
Another great show, & I was pleased to see some lesser known albums. I’m a big love album fan, here’s my top 10, starting with my favourite: Kiss Alive II Cheap Trick At Budokan UFO Strangers In The Night Thin Lizzy Live & Dangerous Slade On Stage Alter Bridge Royal Albert Hall Jimmy Barnes Modus Operandi AC/DC At River Plate Judas Priest Unleashed In The East Queen Live Killers
I like the newly re-issued "Wembley Empire Pool 1974" Pink Floyd "The Dark Side Of The Moon" performance even more than the one on the "Pulse" album. Being from the same era in the mid '70's probably helps. And having Roger Waters on the performance. Syd Barrett era Pink Floyd fans will love Nick Mason's Saucerful Of Secrets live project. It's a tribute to the pre-"The Dark Side Of The Moon" era Pink Floyd. Their "Live At The Roundhouse" CD/ DVD or Blu-Ray set is a wonderful concert, despite only having Nick Mason actually from Pink Floyd. I got used to it very quickly, that we weren't hearing Syd Barrett, Roger Waters' or David Gilmour's voices. A very good tribute to the early Pink Floyd. I guess the quality of the material shines through.
Some great choices Brendan. I'm more of a fan of live albums. I've read quite a few interviews where bands say they also prefer their music to be heared live rather than studio , Genesis being one if I recollect ? My top ten! UFO-Strangers In The Night Alice Cooper- Live '73 from the B$B's expanded release. YES-Yessongs ELP-WBMFTTSTNE Uriah Heep-Live '73 Thin Lizzy-Live & Dangerous David Bowie-Ziggy Stardust the Motion Picture soundtrack Devin Townsend- Live at Plodviv Dream Theater-Live Scenes From New York Transatlantic-Whirltour
Great list!. Some of my mainstream favorites are: Led Zeppelin "How The West Was Won", Black Sabbath " Live At Hammersmith Odeon, December 31, 1981-January 2, 1982", Rush "Live In YYZ 1981", David Gilmour "Live In Gdansk", AC/DC "If You Want Blood". This lesser known live lps are awesome!!: Blindside Blues Band "Live At Satyr Blues", Brett Ellis Band "Electrified Live", Blindstone "Live In Denmark" Lance Lopez "Live In NYC". Also the sound board recording from Boston's 8-16-87 concert At The Centrum in Worcester, Mass.
Finally, How The West Was Won, proof that critics who say mighty ZEP never put out a great live album, and that they were continually sloppy on stage were incorrect. This staggering live stuff stomps out all those criticisms! Cheers!

Great list Brendan, Live albums that stick out for me are Journey Captured, Queen Live at Wembley, Fleetwood Mac Live, Fleetwood Mac The Dance, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Live at the Fillmore
These are all great picks. My all-time favorite is Kiss Alive 2, though I wish they added more “live” tracks instead of the new studio tracks. I’ll have to revisit the ZZ Top live record. It was given to me as part of a meet and greet package. I gave it a quick listen and set it aside.
But Randall, then we wouldn't have awesome Rocket Ride and All American Man as special studio tracks! I get what you're saying though, can never have enough live Kiss, especially on live albums like this and Kiss - Alive!
@@treff9226 I believe those tracks would have made it to a studio record eventually. At the time, I was fond only of Rocket Ride and the Dave Clark Five song. Larger Than Life eventually (maybe 25 years later) became one of my all-time favorite KISS songs with one of my all-time favorite guitar solos (though not Ace). I just thought it was strange to add the studio tracks when there were so many great songs from Destroyer, R&R Over and Love Gun to have live versions of. Either way, it’s in my top 5 favorite Kiss records.
@@vistalite Yeah, there were plenty of other gems from those prime Kiss albums you named that would have been red hot in a live recording at that time! I liked Larger Than Life, as well. Did you like Kiss' last album, Monster? I thought it was a nice return to form and a good one to go out on! Cheers!
@@treff9226 Monster is a good record. It’s not one of my “go to” Kiss albums, but as you mention, it’s a nice return to form. The last Kiss record that I can listen to start to finish is Asylum. Every album after that - I can only listen to certain songs.
Impressive list!. Among my favorites are Pat Travers "Live Go For What You Know", Led Zeppelin "How The West Was Won", Jimi Hendrix "Live At Winterland", Blindside Blues Band "Live At Satyr Blues", Tony Spinner "Live In Europe", Blindstone "Live In Denmark", and anything live from Pink Floyd!
I really love a ton of live albums. I agree about that Crue live album. My favorite version of Too Young To Fall In Love is on there. Pink Floyd Pulse has always been a favorite of mine too. I'm not (typically) a fan of live albums either. But my absolute favorite is 'Kiss Kiss Bang Bang' by The Celibate Rifles. They're an Australian punk band I saw open for The Ramones back in the mid-80s. 'KKBB' was recorded live at CBGBs and is just a blistering set. Sounds like there's 10 people in the audience, but the band plays their asses off -- so awesome.
Made in Japan and Strangers in the Night are absolutely great live albums. Always present in any good top ten list. Good call on Live Bites , pretty good live album.
Great list! Thanks for listing that ZZTop live, I saw them around the time this came out and forgot my VIP swag that night because having too much fun. I'll check that one out today! Keep on rockin

The subjectivity of music! Solid list…. I think I definitely have to include: 1) Priest Live which is my all time favorite live record. I’d have to sit and think about the rest which includes: Metallica Live Sh*t Binge & Purge Overkill Wrecking Your Neck Live Iron Maiden Live After Death Pink Floyd Delicate Sound of Thunder Tesla Five Man Acoustical Jam Ozzy The Ultimate Ozzy (I know not a CD… loved that live video. Wore it out twice) but for CD sake, I’d have to throw on Tribute Slayer Decade of Agression Poison Swallow This Live Queensryche Operation Livecrime Definitely have to sit with this and put it in a definitive order. I can tell you the Slayer one is what put me onto Slayer. Was never a big fan until this live record. The QR masterpiece in a live setting is killer. Honorable mention John Corabi doing the Crue record live from Tennessee if I’m not mistaken. I’ll have to go to my Discogs to confirm since most of my stuff is still boxed from the recent move to Jacksonville. I am also a big fan of when the Cult did the reunion tour and put out all those shows live. I bought them all. I am a firm believer that ALL bands need to do this. Don’t underestimate the fan. Most of them will buy the show that they were at. I truly believe every band should record every show from the soundboard and have that available maybe in their online store.
Totally onboard with Slayer mention - energy is nuts on that live album, snapped my neck and concussed myself more than a few times with Decade Of Aggression🤘🤘🤘
For the live albums, I really like Scorpions, World Wide Live. Released in the 80s I believe that was the title. And Maiden's Live After Death. I like the way alot of bands lately are just recording live in the studio with no crowd noise, just jamming out like they would live.
Yeah, as you say Brendon..only 10 spots but sooo many others that could have been in contention. Love that ACDC Live album. Bought that on its release and still spin it often. Deep Purple Live in Japan...another epic and definitely in my top 10 live albums. A personal favorite that I spin often is Reo Speedwagon "you get what you pay for, Live" One of the first live albums I ever purchased and still rates way up top of my top live album list. Thank you for sharing your top 10 Brendon...lots to love about your selection mate!
My brother and I used to come home from grade school and the first thing we'd do is throw on Double Live Gonzo, open all doors and windows, and walk out to basketball court, which was ten steps from our condo, and shoot hoops for hours, while Uncle Ted sprayed out savage riffs and face melting solos, including his hilarious " between song " commentary like " this guitar simply refuses to play that sweet shit " or " this guitar could blow the balls off a charging rhino at fifty paces " and songs like Yank Me Crank Me and Great White Buffalo proved Ted was correct with his statements! Funny though, my neighbors were never very friendly with us......
Respectable list Brendon. I’ll add Judas Priest Unleashed in the East (aka Unleashed in the Studio). Little Feat Waiting for Columbus as well. Dynamite!
The live albums that resonate with me would be Iron Maiden: Live after Death Iron Maiden: Maiden Japan Slayer: Decade of Aggression Dokken: Beast from the East Dio: Intermission Judas Priest: Unleashed in the East
Eric Clapton ‘Just One Night’ and or ‘24 Nights’, Genesis ‘Seconds Out’ and or ‘Three Sides Live, Heart ‘Alive in Seattle’, Humble Pie ‘Rockin’ the Fillmore’, Jimi Hendrix ‘Live at Woodstock’, Lynyrd Skynyrd ‘One from the Road’ and or ‘Live from Steel Town’, Paul McCartney ‘Wings Over America’ and or ‘Tripping the Live Fantastic’, Yes ‘Yessongs’, both ‘Keys to Ascension’ albums along with the ‘Word is Live’ box set and many more classic live albums I didn’t already mention such as Elton John ‘Here and There’ and or ‘Live in Australia’ or ‘David Live’ and ‘On Stage’ by David Bowie.
Good video Brendon. I have a lot of live albums in my collection. Here is a list of albums I have many times. No piticular order. Neil Young. Weld Bob Seger. Live Bullet Built to Spill. Live Van Morrison. It's to Late to Stop Now Miles. Davis. Live Evil Jimi Hendrix. Winterland Box Dire Straits. Alchemy Who. Live at Leeds Bill Frisell. East/West Allman Brothers . Fillmore East
I will also include AC/DC Live and Pink Floyd Pulse but add Roy Orbison Black and White Night, Neil Diamond Hot August Night, Alice In Chains Unplugged and Van Halen Live Right Here Right Now.
I like the Crue live album because, unlike many live albums, the tracks are taken from different years (and tours). Hanoi Rocks put out classic live album just before they recorded their breakthrough album and split. ‘All those Wasted Years’ deserves a mention. Check it out if you haven’t heard it. Superb!!! Oh and Alice Cooper has some good live albums available.
My top 10 list would look like this today, but can easily change: 1. Yes Yessongs 2. SAGA The Chapters 3. Kansas To the point of know return live & beyond 4. Eagles Live from the Forum 5. Uriah Heep Live '73 6. Bruce Springsteen Live 1975-1985 7. Lynyrd Skynyrd Live from Freedom Hall 8. Deep Purple Live in Copenhagen 1972 9. Transatlantic Live at L' Olympia 10. Garth Brooks Double Live (Maybe not the choice for this forum, be he is fantastic live) I could have mentioned a lot more, but some of the albums is chosen because I saw the band live at the time of the recording
Nice video. I see list after list of Top 10 live albums and everybody seems to miss or ignore Blackfoot's _Highway Song Live_ from 1981, maybe because it was originally released in the UK only as an LP and was not released in CD until 1997 by Wounded Bird Records, but it is one the albums I would choose to hear as a last wish if I knew I was about two die in a matter of hours, along with _Foghat Live_, Supertramp's _Paris_ and UFO's _Strangers In The Night_.
Blackfoot wasn’t that big of a band, and certainly not that many hits the way other southern rock and classic rock bands have, so it may not be making people’s top 10 lists because the album doesn’t register nearly as much as other bigger names and albums with more radio staples. For me it just comes down to who you like more and the energy captured in the performance. So people first have to be into Southern Rock for it to be in their list.
I'm not a big Live album person either, but some of my favorites are AC/DC Live KISS MTV Unplugged Twisted Sister Live at Hammersmith Bon Jovi One Wild Night
Good to see you have some of the great live albums in your collection Brendon. That Motley one was in my car for several months. I'm starting to wonder if I should have tried to get Van Halen's Live Right Here Right Now RSD vinyl (they should have done a CD version). I got a boot of that concert and it actually sounds better IMO, they must have overdubbed it which is a shame as VH could cut it live no problems even with Sammy.
I can't believe why Thin Lizzy Live and Dangerous isnt in your top ten, its widely concidered as the best live album of all time here in the UK. Very shocked irs not in your top ten. 🤔
Just because it’s “widely” considered a good live album doesn’t make it one. It doesn’t speak to me the way these other live albums do. I don’t base my lists on what others consider to be good, they’re based on what I actually like.
@@BrendonSnyder thats true, its personal choice. I'm not sure if you are aware of Classic Rock magazine, but Live and Dangerous was voted the number 1 Live album of all time, but as you say it doesn't necessarily mean everyone can connect to it. Personally its got all the right ingredients for a classic live album, great opening track, beautiful ballad, thunderous drum solo, and audience participation track at the end, its difficult to see how anyone wouldn't like it. But thanks for sharing with us your top 10 👍

One that I think is overlooked but really good is Pink Floyd “Is There Anybody Out There-The Wall Live in Berlin”. But my favorite has to be Cheap Trick “At Budokan”. Also Rush “Exit Stage…Left”
It’s a great recording, but honestly it didn’t come to mind when I thought of their official live albums in the since of the ones that weren’t archival releases and were new at the time. But I’m also not a big fan of The Wall so that might be why my mind doesn’t go to it immediately.
The Crue Live Entertainment Death was cool to me because of the Too Fast stuff . I saw Feelgood Tour , I was 13 . So the early stuff like Merry Go Round and Starry Eyes , I would never get the chance live . They did do On With The Show during Carnival Tour . Guns N Roses Live Era has some addicting stuff , Attitude and Rocket Queen I listen to all the time .
Assuming you're sticking with rock here, some other great ones: Rush Exit Stage Left, Supertramp Live in Paris '79, World Wide Live by the Scorpions, Journey Live in Houston 1981, Entreat by the Cure (from the Disintegration tour), Ozzy's Tribute, Lynyrd Skynyrd Live at Knebworth '76, Infernus Sinfonica MMXIX by Septicflesh (w/ full orchestra and two choirs), Kreator Dying Alive, Metallica the Live Sh*t box, Iron Maiden Live After Death, Queen Live at Wembley...
Mało kto pamięta: Procol Harum Live In Concert with Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, Strawbs Just A Collection Couries & Antiquies,Rick Wakeman Journey to the Centre of The Earth.
My #1: Kiss Alive 3; 1 and 2 were terrible. Other favorites: Wings Over America, Rainbow On Stage, Rush All the World's a Stage, Blue Oyster Cult On Your Feet or On Your Knees, Frank Marino Real Live, Lou Reed Rock n Roll Animal, Jimi Hendrix Band of Gypsies, Rolling Stones Love You Live, Sensational Alex Harvey Band Live.
Live at the Fillmore-Humble Pie, Live at Buddakon-Cheap Trick, Live at Leeds and Live at Isle..-The Who, How the West was won- Led Zeppelin, 1963 James Brown Live at the Apollo, Made in Japan- Deep Purple, Jimi Hendrix and Otis Redding Live at Monterey, Kiss Alive I and II is great and Nirvana Unplugged. And finally Rolling Stones Get your YaYas Out!
Good Choice Man, but what about Queen - Live Killers, Judas Priest - Unleashed in the East, Ted Nugent-Double Live Gonzo, Genesis - Seconds Out and Status Quo Live 1977?
Let's mix some boots in here. David sylvian live in theatre 1988. Led zep offenberg 1973. Roy Harper flashes from the archives of oblivion. Crosby and Nash one stoney evening. Blackfield live in NYC David lee Roth Detroit 1986. Victoria Williams this moment in Toronto. Adrian belew and the bears live. Roxy music viva! Chris whitley Paris 1995
I'm not a fan of live albums either. I prefer them over compilations, but rarely over studio albums. Here are three that I've enjoyed and that I keep going back to: Blind Guardian - Tokyo Tales Edguy - Burning Down The Opera Luca Turilli's Rhapsody - Cinematic And Live (included in the deluxe edition of Prometheus)
Ramones we're outta here, and Oasis live at Knebworth among my top picks.. Clapton's Just one night and Foghat Live, Scorpions World Wide Live also up there.
Hey Brendon. I definitely agree with the Pulse album. This was my first PF live album. I’ll have to think about my top ones I’ll add another comment later.
@@BrendonSnyder that actually was my first Live Album I heard of theirs. Took me years to find it. I found the prior to the remaster that came out in 2019 I found a copy at Best Buy (when still had CDs) 2009. I’ve been trying to locate that album forever, because it was part of the Momentary Lapse of Reason Tour and that live album I do remember listening to it with my best friend in Germany. I’m now content. I have the original 2009 copy and the recently release in 2019.
The KISS Alive Box Set to me the Millennium Concert that was supposed to be Alive IV is incomplete. My favorite KISS live album definitely the first one.
I'm not a huge fan of live albums either, but I love that AC/DC live album! I have the 2 CD collector's edition (no Angus buck, unfortunately). I even enjoy "Jailbreak" with the long jam session.
I got introduced to some of my favorite bands via live albums, so to this day I have a soft spot for the live versions of songs. I will take them over the studio versions any day. Zeppelin's "The Song Remains The Same", Supertramp's "Paris" and Pink Floyd's "Delicate Sound of Thunder" come to mind. And I will argue that Metallica has never sounded as good as on the Seattle '89 concert included on "Live Shit", as far as official releases go.
70s live albums are the best of times🏟️🔥👏🏻
@@rolandoflores7626 Yessir! From what I've been told, I had a jolly good time in the 70's! I'm sure you had more than a few laughs yourself! My all time band owned the 70's, basically saving rock and roll.....can you guess who that is?

Led Zeppelin. The Song Remains the Same. MSG ‘73
My top 10 are 1 UFO- Strangers in the Night
2 Scorpions Tokyo Tapes
3 Thin Lizzy Life Live
4 Iron Maiden Live After Death
5 Uriah Heep 73 Live
6 Rory Gallagher- Stage Struck
7 Judas Priest Unleashed in the East
8 M.S.G- Live Budakon

4. Live Alive - Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble
5. Captured Live - Johnny Winter
6. A Bigger Bang - Rolling Stones
7. Caught In The Act - Grand Funk Railroad
8. Live! In Europe - Rory Gallagher
9. Live - Status Quo
10. Wings Over America - Wings
Without doubt AC/DC “ If You Want Blood “ . I heard that and it blew me away and a love affair with the band and rock music was born ! Fantastic record catching the band at the peak.
It is a good live album for sure! 👍
You rock!
@@treff9226 perfectly summed up my friend 👍🤘🎸
Tokyo Tapes of Scorpions is an amazing live album, with an outstanding Uli Roth
You're so right. The musicianship is so great on this album. The stretch from In Trance to Top Of The Bill is wonderful.
Some of my personal favourites:
Motorhead - No Sleep Til Hammersmith
Alice in Chains - Unplugged
Neil Young & Crazy Horse - Arc Weld
Bruce Springsteen and E Street Band 1975-1985
The Who - Live at Leeds
Metallica - Binge and Purge
Stellar list! Finally purchased Alice In Chains unplugged disc, I though I had already had it, all these years ago! That Motorhead disc is as good as live metal gets - chips teeth!🤘🤘🤘
Thin lizzy live and dangerous great live album
Great live albums. I'm so glad that I bought the Pyromania Deluxe edition which included the Live at the LA Forum disc. It's Lep at the very top.
Damn, I had that deluxe Leppard Pyromania disc in my hands a week ago ( used at Bookoff for nine bucks! ) and passed on it, due to not knowing how good the live stuff sounded......big miss right there! CRAP!
Dang! All the World's a Stage. Raw, raucous and loud. And still the best live Rush album. One person's opinion, of course.
I like Rush, but definitely prefer their studio albums more. Just my opinion of course.
Fair enough, Brendon. Keep 'em coming!
Kansas: Two For The Show(the reissue, more songs on it)
Dire Straits: Alchemy
Supertramp: Paris
These three are well engineered/produced, and catches the artists at their peak(yes, Dire Straits too, this was their best lineup, the best versions of these tracks)
Also:
The Who: Live At Leeds
UFO: Strangers In The Night
Genesis: Seconds Out and Three Sides Live
Jethro Tull: Bursting Out
Pink Floyd: Pulse
Rush: Exit Stage Left
Love the Neil Diamond, Graham Parker and Little Feat picks! Little Feat equals LIVE BAND KILLING IT ON STAGE! Gonna check out that Billy Joel album.
Greetings from Northumberland.
Hi Brendon cool chat..
My favourite live albums would be
Pat Travers Band - 'Go Gor What You Know' what a line up.
IronMaiden 'Live After Death' a classic nuff said.
Beth Hart & Joe bonamassa live in Amsterdam just wow this woman can sing.
Scorpions - 'Tokyo Tapes
Sammy Hagar - Live Loud & Clear
Status Quo - Quo Live
UFO - Strangers in the Night
Blackfoot- Highway Songs Live
Queen - Live Killers

Pat Travers SMOKES! HE WAS BORN TO TAKE THE STAGE, AXE IN TOW! That Travers album, with stellar cast around him, makes me feel good all over! Tommy Aldridge monster drummer!

4. Queensryche LiveCrime
5. Rush Exit Stage Left
6. Scorpions World Wide Live
7. Ac/Dc Live
8. Thin Lizzy Live And Dangerous

Recommend Ten Years After Live at Fillmore East 1970.
UFO - Strangers in the Night
Shaman - Ritual Live ( I found this band in 2022)
Blackfoot- Highway Song live
Savatage - Live in Japan
Judas Priest - Unleashed in the East
Wishbone Ash - Live Dates
Yes - Yes Songs
Tesla - Comin at you alive
Rush - All the World's a Stage
Scorpions- Tokyo Tapes
Tip: One Desire - Live in Helsinki Great melodic rockband!
Great list. Thin Lizzy 'Live & Dangerous'.
No particular order:
Rush: All the World's a Stage
Led Zeppelin: The Song Remains the Same
Iron Maiden: Live After Death
Motorhead: What's Words Worth?
Neil Young & Crazy Horse: Live Rust
Scorpions: Toyko Tapes
Blue Oyster Cult: Extraterrestrial Live
Stevie Ray Vaughn & Double Trouble: Live Alive
Ted Nugent: Double Live Gonzo
Peter Frampton: Frampton Comes Alive
Thanks Brendon 💯
Both the Iron Maiden and Neil Young live albums almost made my list but I ran out of space….10 is so few slots! 😂
@@BrendonSnyder
For sure. Top twenty would be hard even.
Greatest live albums for me, this is the list I would choose;
10. Whitesnake - Live in the Heart of the City
9. Kiss - Alive
8. Scorpions - Tokyo Tapes
7. Judas Priest - Unleashed in the East
6. Rainbow - On stage
5. Motörhead - No sleep til Hammersmith
4. Thin Lizzy - Live and dangerous
3. Deep Purple - Live in Stockholm 1970
2. UFO - Strangers in the Night
Nice pick - Speedwagon on fire on that one!
A quick list for me:
10) Ted Nugent ~ Double Live Gonzo
09) UFO ~ Strangers In The Night
08) Kiss ~ Alive II
07) Rush ~ Exit Stage Left
06) Scorpions ~ World Wide Live
05) Lynyrd Skynyrd ~ One More From The Road
04) Thin Lizzy ~ Live and Dangerous
03) Whitesnake ~ Live In The Heart Of The City
02) Iron Maiden ~ Live After Death
01) Judas Priest ~ Unleashed In The East
HM) Triumph ~ Stages, Peter Frampton ~ Frampton Comes Alive!
My list would be almost identical to yours, you therefore, are like me, and have perfect taste in music! Damn we're good!
The best live album ever is Frampton Comes Alive! It is a masterpiece from start to finish. 👍❤
When I was a kid in the 70's, I didn't know one person, other than older people, who didn't have that album. A real landmark for sure.
Agreed! I've got that Crowes DVD, instant classic.
Couldn't agree more on that Crowes album. They were absolutely on fire in that era, which Freak N Roll captures perfectly.

UFO Strangers In The Night
Thin Lizzy Live & Dangerous

DEEP PURPLE: Made in Japan
DEEP PURPLE: Live in Stuttgart

My top ten!

This lesser known live lps are awesome!!:
Blindside Blues Band "Live At Satyr Blues", Brett Ellis Band "Electrified Live", Blindstone "Live In Denmark" Lance Lopez "Live In NYC".

I love Fleetwood Mac’s The Dance. It’s the album that got me into the band. Very good on so many levels.

Great Live albums. It's always hard to choose top 10 lists because there are so many great albums to choose from.
Huge Ramones fan, any band playing with them has to be special, gonna check Celibate Rifles out! Thanks!
Aerosmith Live Bootleg
Ted Nugent Double Live Gonzo
Kiss Alive
Kiss Alive 2
Judas Priest Unleashed In the East
Foghat Live
Lynyrd Skynyrd One More From The Road
Led Zeppelin The Song Remains The Same
Thin Lizzy Live And Dangerous
UFO Strangers In The Night
The subjectivity of music! Solid list…. I think I definitely have to include:
1) Priest Live which is my all time favorite live record. I’d have to sit and think about the rest which includes:
Metallica Live Sh*t Binge & Purge
Overkill Wrecking Your Neck Live
Iron Maiden Live After Death
Pink Floyd Delicate Sound of Thunder
Tesla Five Man Acoustical Jam
Ozzy The Ultimate Ozzy (I know not a CD… loved that live video. Wore it out twice) but for CD sake, I’d have to throw on Tribute
Slayer Decade of Agression
Poison Swallow This Live
Queensryche Operation Livecrime
Definitely have to sit with this and put it in a definitive order.
1. The Marshall Tucker Band WHERE WE ALL BELONG 2. J Geils Band LIVE FULL HOUSE 3. Lynyrd Skynyrd ONE MORE FROM THE ROAD 4. ZZ Top FANDANGO
My favorite live album is Ted Nugent Double Live Gonzo.. It's just a brutal guitar assault from start to finish..
Great White Buffalo off that is just killer.
What about Grand Funk Live Album and Peter Frampton Comes Alive?
Respectable list Brendon. I’ll add Judas Priest Unleashed in the East (aka Unleashed in the Studio). Little Feat Waiting for Columbus as well. Dynamite!
I almost had both of those on the list. I love the live home video for Priest…Live more than the album or I would have had that one on the list too.
The live albums that resonate with me would be
Iron Maiden: Live after Death
Iron Maiden: Maiden Japan
Slayer: Decade of Aggression
Dokken: Beast from the East
Dio: Intermission
Judas Priest: Unleashed in the East
my picks are:
1. Frampton Comes Alive
2. Live Rust
3. From The Muddy Banks Of The Wishkah
Neil Young. Weld
Bob Seger. Live Bullet
Built to Spill. Live
Van Morrison. It's to Late to
Stop Now
Miles. Davis. Live Evil
Jimi Hendrix. Winterland
Box
Dire Straits. Alchemy
Who. Live at Leeds
Bill Frisell. East/West
Allman Brothers . Fillmore East
Neil Young’s Weld almost made my list.
My top 10 list would look like this today, but can easily change:
1. Yes Yessongs
2. SAGA The Chapters
3. Kansas To the point of know return live & beyond
4. Eagles Live from the Forum
5. Uriah Heep Live '73
6. Bruce Springsteen Live 1975-1985
7. Lynyrd Skynyrd Live from Freedom Hall
8. Deep Purple Live in Copenhagen 1972
9. Transatlantic Live at L' Olympia
10. Garth Brooks Double Live (Maybe not the choice for this forum, be he is fantastic live)
I could have mentioned a lot more, but some of the albums is chosen because I saw the band live at the time of the recording
It’s always cool when you have seen the band live on the same tour they release an album from.
@@BrendonSnyder It was Yes, Saga, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep and Transatlantic
Yeah I forgot about Live After Death-essential! Under a Blood Red Sky is great too, and I’m not a big U2 fan.
Both are great. I’ve got a fan club only U2 live album from their Pop Mart tour that I love.
I'm not a big Live album person either, but some of my favorites are
AC/DC Live
KISS MTV Unplugged
Twisted Sister Live at Hammersmith
Bon Jovi One Wild Night
Good to see you have some of the great live albums in your collection Brendon. That Motley one was in my car for several months. I'm starting to wonder if I should have tried to get Van Halen's Live Right Here Right Now RSD vinyl (they should have done a CD version). I got a boot of that concert and it actually sounds better IMO, they must have overdubbed it which is a shame as VH could cut it live no problems even with Sammy.
The band is going to release all of the Hagar era as deluxe remasters and at that time their will be a CD edition.
Thanks Brendon, superb I'll wait for the CD version!
My 10 (in no order)
Aerosmith Live Bootleg
Peter Frampton Comes Alive
Iron Maiden Live After Death
The Jam Dig the New Breed
Kiss Alive (and) Alive 2
Ozzy Speak of the Devil
Rush All the World's a Stage
Rolling Stones Still life
U2 Under a Blood Red Sky
Live After Death - Maiden, Alive - Kiss, Pulse - Pink Floyd, Live in San Francisco- Satriani, AC/DC Live
I love the version of Coverdale’s Ain’t No Love In The Heart Of City!
A special live Album for me is Rainbows Memories in Rock 2 because I saw them 2019 in Munich. A dream came true.
That makes for some of the best live albums seeing them live.
Some of my picks(in no order)
Social Distortion: live at the Roxy
Black Sabbath:reunion
Pink Floyd: dark side of the moon wembly 1974.
Queen:live at wembly
Alice In Chains:unplugged(assuming it counts)
Deep Purple Made In Japan is awesome! UFO Strangers….the one used for the release before the box set of all the shows that makes up strangers.
- Thin Lizzy / Live And Dangerous
- Hanoi Rocks / All Those Wasted years
- Oasis / Knebworth 1996
- Oasis / Familiar To Millions
- The Rolling Stones / Get Yer Ya-Ya`s Out
- The Rolling Stones / El Mocambo
- Kiss / Alive
- L.A Guns / A Nite On The Strip
- GNR / Live era 97-93
- Tom Petty / The Live Anthology
oh man, Stones' El Mocambo is ridiculously good. Amazing set list, energy and sound. And being an archival release it's actually really live.
Pre-1987 Whitesnake were a proper blues/rock band, that live album was released cheap in the UK in 1980 when they hit big with the original Fool for your loving, it’s excellent. I love Purple but I’m not fussed on Blackmore’s guitar on that album. Nice collection 😊👍🤘
Scorpions-Tokoyo Tapes. Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush-Live. Derringer-Live. Pat Travers-Go For What You Know-Live
Journey-Captured. Lyrnyrd Skynrd-One More From The Road.
I grew up with the Bon Scott era but I feel Brian is the PERFECT replacement for Bon.
Strangers in the night and Unleashed in the east by judas priest
All great live albums. I was listening to that pink floyd live album on cassette.
I agree it’s the first disc that makes it so good.
I have the Japanese import of Scorpions live record, LIVE Bites. I like the import pressing better than the domestic version.
I almost adde Nirvana’s Unplugged but ran out of space.
For me something about iron maiden live albums they just sound fantastic to me
Bruce's vocals with incredible harmony guitars, Steve's insane bass skills and Clive or Nikko's drum magic......can't miss live stuff!
I think it would be cool if you did a video on your favorite album covers. 🤘
I'm not a fan of live albums either. I prefer them over compilations, but rarely over studio albums. Here are three that I've enjoyed and that I keep going back to:
Blind Guardian - Tokyo Tales
Edguy - Burning Down The Opera
Luca Turilli's Rhapsody - Cinematic And Live (included in the deluxe edition of Prometheus)
At least you said favorite … and not best …. None of these albums makes my list.
They say Peter Criss sucks! His drums were the only original tracks untouched!
His drum solo from 1000,000 years is iconic!
My first live Pink Floyd album was The Delicate Sound Of Thunder. But they played too much new stuff in a row on that one. I much prefer Pulse.
Can u add the top 10 in your comments? Thx
Never mind..ur last frame had them laid out...thank you
The KISS Alive Box Set to me the Millennium Concert that was supposed to be Alive IV is incomplete. My favorite KISS live album definitely the first one.
I'm not a huge fan of live albums either, but I love that AC/DC live album! I have the 2 CD collector's edition (no Angus buck, unfortunately). I even enjoy "Jailbreak" with the long jam session.
A Mötley Crue live album that's actually not live...what a shocker there.
😂
I got introduced to some of my favorite bands via live albums, so to this day I have a soft spot for the live versions of songs. I will take them over the studio versions any day. Zeppelin's "The Song Remains The Same", Supertramp's "Paris" and Pink Floyd's "Delicate Sound of Thunder" come to mind. And I will argue that Metallica has never sounded as good as on the Seattle '89 concert included on "Live Shit", as far as official releases go.
I got introduced to The Ramones through Loco Live.
@@BrendonSnyder My first Ramones record, too!
Scorpions Tokyo Tapes is my favorite live album. The best Scorpions is with Uli Jon Roth at the guitar.
👍
Purple on top, always.
Cool!
Iron Maiden - Live After Death
U2 - Live Under A Blood Red Sky
