Thanks for the Duplicating the same track 4 times each effected and processed differently and Layering them. Awesome Technique!! psyched to try it right nOw
Fantastic! So unsettling to hear a raw version of a track I've heard countless times in its mixed form.Very enlightening, you truly kicked it out of the arena with this one! Cheers! =)
My favorite song on that album, I think. Very interesting to realize how much of the final product was from you. Been listening to FLA since The Initial Command was new, so it's funny to hear the reference mix sounding so much more like he did back then. :D In other words, bless you, Ken Marshall. (Also, LOVING the Black Line album. So much fun. Been into Nitzer Ebb since they only had one album, too.) Happy Friday.
Ken you're the man!!!! You are an industrial musicians best friend!!!! I can't believe how much you've influenced the songs I love dearest! I hope to one day be cool enough to work with you on a project, even if just for fun! None the less, I commend your skill at your craft!
My activating the “bell” gizmo on YT for this channel (the first and only time I’ve ever used it) has paid off in a MONUMENTAL way!!! Not only my favorite band but one of my favorite tracks from them! I had no idea how instrumental you were in creating the masterpiece that ended up on that sublime album. Thank you for this all too brief insight. I’m sad now because this is the level of production I aspire to but will never be able to achieve... But happy because I got this glimpse into how this track got made.
Amazing. I never dreamt I would get such a hands on insight into these songs when I was listening to ghosts or illisit. Never thought I behind tue scenes.
I’ve found myself listening to this album ALOT in this last 6 months and wondering if you could shed some light you get the whispered vocal to sit on top of the big riff without fighting it? Is it just ducking or are you ducking certain frequencies on a dynamic eq etc? Not expecting total giveaway but any hints would be awesome.
Would you say that this sort of arranging and editing (along with what's covered in various other videos on this channel) is a normal part of the Mixing gig, or is this degree of involvement uncommon? My expectation of Mixing, including when I've done it for other people, is pretty much limited to levels, EQ, Compression, etc. At the most I might make suggestions to the artist about changes that could be made, that I'd then execute if they approved. Is there more that I could/should be doing?
Patrick Brooks that’s such a great question my friend, thanks so much for sharing here! Yeah, this is a session we need to cover Patrick, I’m very excited to share some ideas on the subject, I just made a note in my hiwattSOUNDbites book...THANK YOU!!! Please stay tunes cause I’m gonna share this one sooner than later, it’s so important ;-) Be safe, -hw
Would you happen to know what kind of effect is on Bill's vocals on Shifting through the lens, from the same album? I can't tell if it is a vocoder, pitch shifting or something else. This has been bugging me for a while now.... It sounds so cool
I absolutely love some several hundred tracks by Front Line Assembly. :P Btw. it's not without reason that this track was so successful and has been released as a single later although Shifting through the lense was supposed to be the only single if i remember correctly.
They sound like a cross between Korn, Fear Factory, and Limp Bizkit (in the best possible way). Also, the guy who wears a static strap is the guy who completely understands the power, the glory, and the value behind the toys of his trade.
FLA is where those bands came from, as are the rest of the Wax Trax! bands (Ministry, Front 242, KMFDM, Revolting Cocks, etc). If you've never heard any of them, go check them out.
Incredible alignment! Who have noticed, that Bill's vocal at 4:51 repeats the same down-note pattern as in Pro>Tech - Pheromne : ruclips.net/video/J6dJfU1XmQQ/видео.html I've noticed it also in Delerium - After All
It's funny that a group of Canadians, a country that has never really seen any modern combat action, have so many songs about war lol. Same with SP. Love Bill Leeb man. That whole group of Industrial artists from Canada are fucking sick.
I wish I could "like" Ken's videos more than once.
Agreed, Ken deserves a 'super-like' button on his videos.
I support your sentiment. 👍
You can always create more YT accounts if you want to like more often. :P
Der Kernspalter I seriously contemplated this option... 😂
We'll do it for you.
so happy I found this channel, I've been looking for vids about industrial music production/mixing for years and these ones are the best by far.
I love the intro and escalation of this song. Would love a instrumental version.
Many thanks for your Video👍 & Your effort. I Love I.E.D. My Top 5 FLA Album.
Thanks for the Duplicating the same track 4 times each effected and processed differently and Layering them. Awesome Technique!! psyched to try it right nOw
Man. I've been a fan of your work since I was a teenager, and hearing how you put some of these tracks together is awesome.
I love your videos man!! FLA is my top industrial band of all time, so cool to see this.
Absolutely love hearing some of my favorite tracks dissected like this. Makes me appreciate them even more.
Ken is the man of production and mixing! Then we (Mindless Faith) took Ken's masterpiece and remixed it to what you hear them play live!
Killer remix Mindless Faith 🤟🏻😆
"The Thirst" is one of my absolute favourites. Thanks for the great music!
I get a little nugget of gold from you every time I watch one of your videos Ken. Awesome video, as always!
Your work is pure gold to me. I just adore it.
I never thought of mixing a track would have an arrangement side to it. That's blown my mind that's it's "ok" to do!
Nice! Always fun to take a look behind the curtain to see how these tracks were put together.
Thanks for this! Feel like I don't see a lot of industrial style videos so this is appreciated!!
I would LOVE to work with FLA's tracks! What a treat!!! I didn't realize YOU mixed that!! Awesome work!!
I appreciated the work put into that when it came out. Knowing how much went into it. Cool to hear the multi-tracks isolated.
Randomly found this video featuring 2 of my favorite things, Front Line Assembly and music production. Thanks for sharing this with us! Subscribed.

Fantastic stuff Ken! Love when you work on FLA tracks!
Genius work Ken!
Right on! It's time for HiWatt! So nice to have these while we're waiting for our recording gear to arrive here overseas! Sonic sanity!!

Awesome session mate!... and fantastic track as well.
Woah! Never would thought about who's actually responsible to my favorite parts of the track! Amazing!

You got yourself a new subscriber, sir. Good work, indeed.
Hearing Bill without effects make me want to make industrial.
Amazing. I never dreamt I would get such a hands on insight into these songs when I was listening to ghosts or illisit. Never thought I behind tue scenes.
love these behind the scenes of awesome tunes!
Wow, this is a powerful demonstration. The vocal became next level.
Sweet!!! Thanks for the upload! Such a pleasure! :]
Always liked this track. Cool to see it deconstructed!

I love this so much! What a great example. So cool!
Be more like Ken, folks!
Are you in a band?
MindCage Rick No, Sir. I’m just a concerned citizen
I rate this video five stars and going to share it on my blog page (which is the fan community page on VK)
A dream collaboration. I would love to see would be you producing Raymond Watts?
Yay! Been waiting for fome FLA!
Greg, I have always respected you, you are a freaking genius.

Amazing decisions!
Very cool Ken. Thanks!
You're a genius Ken :)
Great song!
Awesome!
The most Ken Marshall-ish music today...
brilliant , do you have any book teaching how to tune the drums to a specific arrangement ?
Holy S**t ! To see FLA track in PT and a dude that mixed it! It's like seeing T****s for the first time !
Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha 😂🤟🏻🙏
One of the best songs from later era FLA.
Excellent.
Ooh those voals layered ....yummy
