      Given that they changed the type of the CPU they would probably need to reinstall of the OS since binaries won’t be compatible, if he also swapped SSDs tho this would be possible

      People actually chanted that after the talk and he did turn it on back stage 😁
      I'll have to see if there is a photo or video somewhere of it running.

      given that the storage slot is on the main board, this would work perfectly fine if the OS is already installed on both storage devices.

    Is there option to buy framework laptop without motherboard? so that anyone could choose other companies motherboards.

    • @Ivan-qo7eg
      @Ivan-qo7eg День назад +10

      You can buy all the other parts, but the third party motherboards have to be designed to be compatible with the framework ecosystem, and this video shows the first motherboard of this kind. So short answer no, but theoretically yes.

      the point of frameworks laptops is to be able to replace the parts as easy as posible. also he explained that he was showing just that. what's the point of turning it on if you can't tell if there is Risk-V or x86 there. ubuntu looks the same on both

    • @Minecraftzocker135
      @Minecraftzocker135 День назад +7

      He first would need to switch the SSD too as this CPU swap won't just work with the same os install and then he would need to not only boot it up but show some kind of hardware info as it's not obvious what running under the hood

    • @DFYX
      @DFYX День назад +3

      @@Minecraftzocker135 The SSD is screwed to the mainboard so he would have swapped it while swapping the board. My guess is that he didn't boot it because a) he was running out of time and b) he wasn't confident that he didn't forget/fumble some connector. Nothing more embarassing than trying to turn it on and then noticing the battery connector is loose.

      What a clown opinion, you do realise x86 operating systems aren't gonna boot up in risc v right? He just showed how easy it is to swap the hardware, you've gotta install the OS for the architecture or swap SSDs to boot up

    I've always wondered why they made Type-C to Type-C expensive and complicated instead of creating a good connection... Modern people have probably forgotten what RJ45 is and that several PCs can form a local network for free... And if we talk about repairability and convenience... Where are the hot-swap switches? It makes more sense to use a screen... But making a keyboard out of it is difficult... You need to write code for it... But even so, external split keyboards with a graphic tablet in the middle look more interesting anyway. _))

    • @xlion

      Type-C to Type-C or any expansion cards means the wears are always on the card itself, so you won't need to worry about the lifespan of the ports.

      Bro ... he is correct😅 ... let's do some math ... if a person work 8h/day * 7 days earning $7/h it will total/month = 1699, if the cable is $10, the cable represents 0.58% of you month ... really cheap in your reality ... in my country the average/h is $3 (no talking about taxes, it is above 100%) ... doing the math it's represents 5.58% of month total WITHOUT TAX, with tax it become 11.9% ... but looking for other perspectives, the proposal of USB is became an Universal Serial Bus ... but every usb-c cable (for example) have different functions, you need buy one cable for otg, other for mhl, other for fast charge, etc. So ... after show this aspects in consideration we will need buy one cable/function with this cost, this is literally not cheap and really complicated 😢
