The Ultimate trailers really were a once-in-a-lifetime event. So much hype and salt... But I’ll always remember it fondly.

I also want to mention the Sans Mii reveal. While he wasn't a fighter, it's crazy that he carried the hype of one, arguably only being beaten by Steve in terms of reaction. Being plopped at the end of a normal Mii fighter reveal, the split second on Megalovania heard before showing him, the zoom in on his face to tell you "Yes this is real", all perfect. It shows the care and effort the team put into almost everything in this game and is by far my favorite reveal.

  • @NintendoHero

Smash reveals always feel like such an event, and the way the trailers slowly build up hype before the reveal is (usually) perfect. Super cool breakdown of the pacing and other elements that add to the quality of a new character reveal! Smash Ultimate was such a journey man

  • @BondforgedSky

God, I loved watching those trailers as they got released. Sora's is my personal fav, and I legit got teary eyed during your breakdown of that trailer ( Simple and Clean gets me every time lol )

  • @voyan38

There really is no greater agony than knowing a character before the trailer, for me that's why Arms was the worst. Even if the trailer is actually pretty decent. But as someone who has played KH1/2 and low-key doesn't like it, and as someone who hates playing against Sora in smash, I think you actually reversed my perspective on the trailer itself. I knew it was a big deal since dude was #1 requested forever, but it really was a poetic way to close out the game motto'd with "Everyone is here" and bringing the crossover protagonist to the crossover Nintendo series. Cool stuff

the last trailer from sora made me cry and i don't know why i never knew it existed

  • @canariawing

i haven't been big into smash since brawl but whenever a new character was revealed for ultimate, it was always an amazing experience. i cried and cheered when sora's reveal happened, i still get choked up thinking about it

  • @grandmasteryoda6717

    Excellent video.

God...when I think of the impact of these Smash reveal trailers...I literally would not be a Xenoblade or Persona fan without the Shulk and Joker trailers respectively. The reveal trailers simply were as big as a sports event for so many of us, crazy to think it's been 2 years since then 😢

  • @zorasmith4880

As a fellow Frisk dreamer, I feel your pain about the last reveal- but I am more than happy to have Sora as my main. XD

  • @MercuryA2000

Byleth's trailer also had a problem of annoying smash fans because it is literally just a cutscene from the game. Like, shot for shot. Even fire emblem fans were annoyed by it. The least they could have done was animated the scene from right before the timeskip and implied this is where byleth ran off to during the 5 year gap. But nah. It was just really lazily done compared to every single other trailer.

  • @knux333jw

Great video! Pretty much captures the magic of Smash reveals perfectly... and why Byleth is a mistake lmao.

  • @itabee4980

I remember crying kicking and screaming when I saw SORA of all characters. Nintendo might be awful to consumers in some aspects but they were feeding us well back then

  • @BulbaWhat98

I get the feeling that Byleth's trailer was the way it was because of them knowing how upset people would be, so why even bother I guess? Might as well rip the band aid off right at the beginning than hype everyone up throughout the trailer only to reveal the character they wanted the least out of anyone

  • @senae.

I don't even like the game that much, but the reveals... Peak fiction!

  • @backup368

All hype, little results. Character reveal trailers are fine, but if these characters were just for Sakurai and not for actual fans of these characters whom otherwise could give Nintendo real money for this game and this system in order to play as their favorite character, what was the point?

  • @lord_klump3705

Maybe it's my age... but sorry nobody can convince me Steve's trailer wasn't the most boring
