      Theres a great owners community out there which helps and plenty of good examples to choose from while still being a rare car that everyone loves to see - can’t be many cars like that 😃. Just look out for the dreaded rust (see my other videos). I kind of did a thing 😬🤣. Thanks for watching!

    Don't kid yourselves. Almost every repair is $1000. Broken side window, valley pan gasket, new radiator. The hydraulic brake part is now $2200. The bloody plastic ashtray in console, IF you can find one, is $750. The only thing relatively cheap are the 16" tires at $800 for a set. This is an expensive car to run and things are wearing out due to age alone, not even use.

      Exactly....luxurious cars have relevant running and maintenance cost....and especially e31 is veeery spoiled monkey eating "alottaof" biiig bananas.....

    Glad you're loving the E31. Beautiful color we never got in the US....I drive a 1994 840ci now and previously owned a '91 850i. Recommend you watch Timm's BMW Information channel for e31 tips. As far as your A/C system - you have a seal or hose leak and/or your secondary heater water pump may have gone bad ( as most will ).

    • @CraigOnCars
      @CraigOnCars  3 года назад

      I do love the colour. How do you find the 840 vs 850? And thank you for the tip! Its something i will have to investigate when i get that far - the bodywork is my big job this winter.

    • @RemyHou
      @RemyHou 3 года назад +1

      I have a 91 850i as well, manual transmission but unfortunately, I'm getting back smoke. Blown head gasket, it's been in the garage since 2011. I'm hoping next year to sort it all out.

    • @CraigOnCars

      @@RemyHou thats got to be a rare spec being a manual! I do hope you can get to the bottom of the issue. Where are you based? If in America, Alec Cartio (west coast) is a great guy who is an expert on these cars and he may be able to help. Here in the UK the facebook group for 8 series owners is always a useful source of knowledge too. Good luck with the job in 2021 and hopefully you can get back on the road👍

      @@CraigOnCars I'm in Long Beach, California. I had a feeling it might be a rarity being a manual. I'm considering of trashing the engine for a modern V8 4.4l from an X5. Other issues I have is this gas fume in the cabin smell. I haven't fully tackle it every since my purchase was back then. Does Alex have a site or page/YT.

    • @CraigOnCars
      @CraigOnCars  3 года назад

      @@RemyHou i believe you may be quite close to Alec then as he is in California too. His youtube is Classic Car Custodians ruclips.net/user/WinterfallRecords but you’ll also find him in the facebook groups for e31. I do think you may have a rare spec car, being manual (i know bmw only made 52 840’s in manual for example). Alec would be best to talk to about an appraisal on it. Keep us updated on what you decide 👍

      Hi, where are you based? If in UK theres a really friendly group on facebook - bmw 8 series uk owners - and i bet theres someone there who would know. If in US, try posting in the bmw 850 & 840 world owners association facebook group. They would be my first ports of call. Wish i could help more but im no expert on these cars yet. I realize this video is 18 months old but wondered if I could ask a question. I'm looking for an 8er but I'm concerned I may be too tall. I'm about 6'4" or 193cm. May I ask your height and whether you have any issues with comfort or headroom?

    • @CraigOnCars
      @CraigOnCars  2 года назад +1

      Thanks for watching - im 5’11” with no headroom or comfort at all. There is alot of adjustment with the seat and steering wheel and the car is quite low so legs are quite straight. Best to test one out to be sure, and if you can find a non sunroof car that will also give a little extra headroom. Good luck!
