Five Star were way ahead of their time, and with hard work and talent no one could touch them. However, when it comes to dancing and singing has a group it does not get better than this. When they danced it was with real passion, and they performed as one unit working together, and that is very rare especially today. This group should never be forgotten, because there are legends.

Had the absolute pleasure of meeting Denise Pearson about a year ago and what a lovely woman she was. Gave me a huge hug and signed her solo album for me. Still listen to them having been a fan for 30 years.

This is my kind of jam, 5 Star is one of my faves, along with Cherrelle, SOS Band, Luther Vandross, Evelyn ‘Champagne’ King, Patrice Rushen, Change, Teena Marie, BB & Q Band, The Whispers, Janet Jackson, Jermaine Stewart, Jody Watley, Galaxy Feat. Phil Fearon, Alexander O’Neal, The Time, The Pointer Sisters...pretty much most 70s and 80s R&B-dance-disco artist!!

Ebony B, Definitely yes, Although i've always had a soft spot for Five star- i would never call them Trailblazers, they kind of stole everything from Michael Jackson throughout the 80's, as soon as His Bad video came out at the end of 87, everyone including five star started looking like one of the extras in his video. by 88 so many early groups of the 80's were dressing like bikers from a Hells angel convention.

They were huge fans of Michael and Janet Jackson, and some of them met them personally.
There is no need to bicker about who “copied” whom. Music had a lot of cross influences and flourished right, back in the eighties. Just listen without prejudice!!

Geoffrey White These guys were massive in the UK and Europe through the 80s. Four hit albums, countless hit singles, two arena tours and winners of Best British Group at the Brit awards 1987. Hardly unsung.
I don't think that Britain and Europe was ready for them. They were just too good. They should have started their career in America. When I first heard about them I thought they were based in The US.

Wow!!! The vocals are straight up Michael. The look is a mash up of LaToya’s look back then (the make up), and Janet “Control” era. The dancing is straight up Janet “Control” era. When I seen this and saw the lead singer I thought I was looking at Coco Montrese, Drag Queen, #1 Janet Jackson impersonator in the world. Lol!!! But yea, they were really inspired by Miss Jackson. I see some on here are saying Michael and Janet, but I’m just seeing Janet. However the vocals are very Michael.

Several of Five Star's songs have a precision "chucking" playing style, sort of like what Nile Rodgers does with the guitar. They do it with instruments and also their voices. The "uh-huh-huh" in the opening (and throughout)is an example. The vocal "uh-huh" seems unique. I haven't heard it anywhere else. I loved it enough to buy their albums in 1989.

She did her own make up, and she purposely made her makeup pale to go with the blonde "Big hair 80's look" it fit perfectly. But yes she had to be pale to match the platinum hair or she would look odd and it wouldn't match the style.

I see Michael Jackson & Janet Jackson's influences all over the place. All she had to do was grap her croch, and she would have had the MJ style down pat. In fact, she looks & moves like a female version of MJ! A few time in the video she nailed it. She is damn good! I would like to see her go on tour, fronting the Jackson's, as the lead singer, with her 5-Star family doing the dancing, the Jackson's supplying the music and added vocals. What a show that would be! ( P.S. save me a ticket)
