These guys definitely need an Unsung episode. Them and Loose Ends
agreed
Both groups used the same producer for many of their tracks...
Nick Martinelli...
Especially loose ends! They still in rotation!
Loose Ends have gone on record that they are totally against an Unsung episode. They were approached several times but turned them down. This was about 10 years ago, maybe soon they’ll change their minds…
Now I have definitely heard of Loose Ends!
The father was right to be so protective. Look at all the child entertainers that have made it & then ended up to be taken advantage of or have substance abuse. I give the father a standing ovation for protecting the children.
Yea Yea, but he was also an idiot sometimes! He didn't do half of what Joe did for the Jacksons, but yet he was spending his KIDS money!! Joe was spending his kids money too,
but I think Joe deserved to because he taught them how to perform ! Five Star daddy did nothing but dictate👎
They had sense
Yep
I agree...they don't get enough media credit for that...including likes of Joseph Jackson, Matthew Knowles, father of William sisters
@@chrisy-eou mean Richard Williams, only because of this Will Smith film. Also Anthony Hamilton (Lewis’s dad) until after the first few years of F1 - Joe Jackson was seen as an extreme example and so was some dads of tennis stars such as Mary Pierce
"ALL FALL DOWN" was and still is my FAVORITE song from this group! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Same
DAMN STRAIGHT!!!!
I'm with "let me be the one".....luv this song.members of loose ends worked on Five stars first album.
The slightest touch was my favorite.
And everyone else plus..let me be the one!
As an American I can say they were one of my all time favorite groups. Loved their sound and look.
Buster was right to watch over their career. He was the perfect person to do so, due to his past experience being in the industry. They, those other people, were just talking about their father like that only because they couldn't get their hands on his children to influence/exploit them like they wanted to... so they could start some controversy. I LOVED Five Star back then. The whole family is beautiful.
💯💯💯
❤❤❤
🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩None of my peers in the states were into this group, but I was all over these grooves. Especially Let Me Be the One which still slaps today, and their choreography was on point.
Me too!
I was very young when they came out but I do remember Their music use to be play on B.E.T All fall down and Let me be the one.
And Love Take over.
Also I didn't know until later on they wasn't from the U.S
American here....no we weren't.😅
@@sarahsimpkins1311 In 87-88 their music was everywhere!!!!!!!
“Let me be the one,Let me beee, you give your love ❤️ to” 🎶
I was lucky to be coached by Stedman for weekly dance classes. He was just the sweetest man, so talented and really humble.
U fukin sure ask him about the toilets
I Love 5 Stare and always will ❤
I said a long time ago that Five Star and Loose Ends were victims of racism in their home country, same with Musical Youth.
Absolutely! So sad
I think that's just a cheap excuse. Remove the obsession and preoccupation with race/colour . What would change? You can only go so far with the UK industry. (it's very limited) Even white stars have to move to America to get more success.
@@furrymonkeything Hard truths are better to deal with than soft lies. Race is a factor, no matter how much you want to ignore it.
@saj8 I disagree. It's just your perspective on life and what you are now trying to portray. The only harshness is the music industry itself. They ride your back and try to get as much money out of you as possible. Considering they weren't chart toppers, they were lucky to get that far. I maintain that bringing race into everything is just whiny and lazy. Bob Marley was from Jamaica just as five star's father was. Bob did not get the respect and fame we know him for, till he came to England and was taken on by an English producer. It was then Jamaicans recognised him. The rest is history. As a third generation black immigrant, my view is valid on the matter.
@@furrymonkeything And I see that you are still ignoring the main issue. Color has been a main issue since day one and it has been a major factor in the industry since day one. Doesn't matter if you're an immigrant or a native. This issue isn't going away, no matter how badly you want it to.
Let Me Be The One was written & produced by the Loose Ends guys.
Sounds just like Loose Ends too
From my information when Buster sold the record company over to RCA, he put a clause in where they couldn't have the songs covered by other people for a set period of years. That is why you never hardly hear any covers of their material, Buster was trying to protect the brand until the end.
BRAVO 👏🏽 TO THE FATHER FOR PROTECTING HIS CHILDREN!!
Hear Hear! Certain people were clearly trying to demonize him. But his loving kids saw through their cr@p and spoke in his defence!
I loved Five Star when I was in college! Their look and choreography was everything! I could tell they were fans of The Jacksons, particularly Stedman who patterned his look after Michael.
I know it sounds crazy but I always thought The younger brother looked like Eazy-E
Haha I used to think Lorraine look like Sharon Bryant from the original Atlantic Starr.
I remember buying their albums on cassettes, I loved them!! Costumes, make up, styling, singing and dancing!! They were brilliant!
I ❤ “Let Me Be the One” “I Can’t Wait Another Minute” but my absolute favorite is “R.S.V.P”
I LOVE R.S.V.P, too! It was groundbreaking in a way, because it featured some rapping (by Denice) and it wasn't common in pop records then. To this day I don't understand why it wasn't a top 10 single.
For Sentimental reasons is a sleeper too!
I loved this group we were so proud of them in the UK. I had signed pictures of them. I wanted to be in the group when I was little. OMG
They were like the British Jacksons!! Rain or Shine will always be my favourite !! System addict was good too. In that song they warn about computers and technology, they were way before their time they were! I still listen to them today and I am 51
Their father did a great job ...thats why they look so young and healthy...no drugs, smoking running around all business ❤
Stedmon once picked me up in Hollywood once in his Rolls Royce and gave me a ride home to the ghetto in Downtown LA in the 2000s when I was in my 20s. He was so nice.
Oh really ? ! 😳
That’s very kind of him.
Delroy, his wife and their kids live in California, he became an American citizen years ago. Deniece tried living here when she first got married to her ex husband, they had two kids and got divorced.after that, Deniece took their kids and flew back to England, I believe that it was in 2004.
Basically their father stopped the perverts from spit roasting his kids. …..full respect
I'm a bit over 60, and I still have them on CD.
Although I was a kid, I remember all of the controversy about their house and cars, etc. and even back then, I thought, 'why is the media so bothered about how they are living?' Now, that I am older and have been through racism on the job, etc. I totally see that there was definitely racism behind the fall of this group. When the member said that she heard an Executive from Epic say that after seeing their home and cars, 'they have too much for a black family and it's not right', I totally believe her! That's when they went into doing dirty behind the scenes schemes to shoot this family's fame and riches down. Again, I've had something similar happen to me on the job. There are some sick white people who really believe that we should never have what they have or feel entitled to. Anyways, I really enjoyed this. Going to definitely watch part 2.
It's sad that they're always developed their talent and skill. And if they buy something they deserve that because it came from their hard work. And I'm glad that they're actually not getting high by ego, greed, getting richer and totally fall apart like Musical Youth (Another sad example of youth group that actually can go further in music career)
The racism in America is just as sick too.
You are so right! They could not accept that a black family was doing good and having great success. If it was a white family doing this they care less about their succes. And give them props. So racism had a lot to do with it. You see they do not like it when a black man or a black women has too much POWER.
That must have just been a U.K. thing. It must have been rare for black groups to have success and money.
My family went through something very similar in Purley, Croydon. We had seven luxury cars on our drive- Xj8 Jag 4 litre lwbs, Merc w140 600sel, bmw 7 series, jaguar XKR convertible, Bentley Turbo, Porsche 928, Range Rover L322. This was between 2007 and 2016 and despite none of these cars being new we faced massive hostility!!
They were the British Jacksons, because if you don’t know no better . you would think they were part of the Jackson clan with those gorgeous eyes and cheeks. . I still listen to them . “Let me be the one “. Is my jam.
Criticism of how they use their wealth is rooted in racism. If they weren’t black, comments such as that would be non-existent. Black people, you, we are WORTHY.
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I loved DeBarge, The Jones Girls, Sister Sledge , The Pointer Sisters, New Edition,Menudo ,The Jacksons, Stacy Lattisaw, 5 star , The Jets ,The Boyz, The Girlz, Jermaine Stewart, Stacey Q , Madonna ,Toni Basil Taylor Dayne, Tiffany ,Debbie Gibson Kidz Incorperated ,
Omg! Great memories.. I was 9 years old when I first heard 5 Star and fell in love with their music.. They were ahead for their time, gorgeous and talented. Love them ❤
I can't wait another minute...for part 2! 😉
LOL!!!!!
One of the things I liked about Five Star is how they released as many singles from an album as possible. It was a great way of presenting their work. The first album, "Luxury Of Life", had no less than 7 singles out of the 10 songs. I thought it was great, particularly because the singles came with great extended mixes of the tracks. That put, one of my favourite Five Star songs, "Winning", is one of the songs from the album that weren't released as singles. Too bad, but at least the extended version of it was added to the seventh release ("System Addict").
that wasn’t good it overexposes you and places too much attention on one song at a time. The typical is five or less. They had way too many
@@I-AM-BELIEVER - It was greed by their idealistc Dad wanting to replicate an MJ album sales process, lol.
Well done to their dad. He was a very wise man.
Very under appreciated group. Should B more respected over here. Denice had an album out around 7 years ago after she was on The Voice & I saw an interview with Doris on RUclips a few months ago on the Halftime Chat channel.
Another good video from U , thank U.
Sad that they always growing and development their own talent. But when they and their families buying Stone Court, Everyone started to make fun of them and killed their career. They didn't deserve this treatment.
Wow Eddie has a history of mistreating women. I heard he really hurt Whitney Houston too. He was very toxic
He is a dog
I was in infant/junior school when 5star hit the school discos 🤩. Rain or shine will always be my favourite song by them ❤️
Very well brought up children who've turned into great adults.
Can't wait to have you back on stage (all fall down and let me yours really makes me happy). one of the best British groups of the 80s😢
When I tell you I loved Five Star when I was in primary school in the UK. The first group I became obsessed with. Steadman was going to be my husband and nobody could tell me different. 😂
I saw them in concert and Lorraine waved at me and Steadman touched my hand, which I tried not to wash. Lol. Timeless music which I still love! ❤️
My bestie and i made our own fan club and we practiced all the dance routines am also from the uk still love them such great tunes i was Doris my friend was Lorraine ha x
Even to this day you have to turn up the radio when "Rain or Shine" comes on! 👍👍
They were crucified in the BRITISH press , because they were successful , it was the same thing over and over in the 80s and 90s there would be kids that would be pushed out and rang dry IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY for as much as possible , think BROS AND TERRENCE TRENT DARBY , and so many more acts /groups that then if the British press though they were getting cocky or would not follow the party line and do as they were told they would be dragged down in the public eye . They would label they as spoiled or flaunting their money or cocky, and they would tear them down for having the audacity of not kissing the feet of the press , then like now the press control what they want the public to see and at the time there was no alternative . And to have a black group in the 80s being successful was great for 5 mins, but a black group who were in control of their careers, NOT GOING TO BE ALLOWED TO HAPPEN FOR VERY LONG .
IMO, their mansion, their cars and their spending made them a target of the media like they did with Bros - I felt they should waited for a few hit albums in to do that - Jay Kay of Jamiroquai once said he was offered a Ferrari F50 when it came out but couldn’t afford it then (he was only 2 albums in) but managed a Lamborghini Diablo after his 3rd album. He had his 5th album when he had his Ferrari Enzo
thanks for sharing this. although five star were before my time, I recognise how important they were. they broke barriers. their music sounded more like pop/rock than r&b to me. they seemed like such a tight unit and family, with each member playing a crucial role. the British press were obviously threatened and jealous of this, and tried to tear them apart. they label you ‘weird’ for not wanting to do drugs, when they were really just raised to have self respect. it would be great if you could cover musical youth at some point.
There is an Unsung show made by TV One that explains it all. The story is very sad. Two members have passed away.
No worries at all! I’ll add Musical Youth to the list and see what I can put together.
Da WHAITE!!! RAYCISS British press...
Yep, yt only did that because they were black.
If they did do drugs and drank they would still talk about them. Sick people.
@@dquinn8344
No different from the ones in America.
I'm glad this group is a beautiful memory, and I am glad that they were not tainted by the music industry!
Five Star will live forever #uk
I loved their song can't wait another minute l remember singing that song as a kid thanks for your hard work and doing these stories... love from 🇺🇸 l love British black artist 🥰🇬🇧💝 it blows my mind how British singers accent disappears as they sing 😏I didn't know they sang hide and seek first...
I love their music so much
@@NovemberReigne Same here
A production from la& Babyface or Jimmy jam& Terry Lewis would have took them to superstar status
They were so bomb, loved their music/videos
This group was so bomb. I loved their clothes and makeup they were so good period. Always wonder what happened to them
I will say this, thank goodness for y'all's father being strict the way he was because guess what? We're not hearing stories of Five Star dealing with any major substance abuse situations or anything like that that we see a lot of celebrities go through. That music industry will use you up and then toss you aside like you or nothing. Your father knew what he was doing so Bravo to him! 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
OMG!!! What I wouldn’t give to have these guys back ❤️💃🏼❤️💃🏼❤️
Me too
They still play, I saw them last year ❤
O fukin noooooooooooo
WHAT?
@@thefirm4606I thought it was just Denise performing out there
The reason why I'm watching this video is because I am a big fan of this group. Their music gets me moving whenever I hear it.
I was 14 when they hit the big time and I was a huge fan… on their first tour I saw them at the Birmingham Odeon, during All fall down I managed to climb on the side of the stage and do the dance routine to the chorus i wasnt very confident of ppl and as a man in black star5ed running towards me I jumped back into the crowd and crouched down … id love it if there was any footage of this …. Also they were fantastic live
I loved and love Five Star so much. Great video. They are excellent and deserve a better placing in UK music history. I don't actually believe there wasn't financial problems. Somethings went very badly wrong for them. The volte face change in musical direction with Another Weekend was really the end of it all. The so called scandal was something that today would have been handled very differently was such a shame. They are super talented and deserve a proper revisit. Their songs are super top notch.
You couldn’t tell me I wasn’t the unofficial 6th member of Five Star hailing all the way from California in my room in front of the mirror lol 😂😂😂!
I still play their greatest hits daily. I ❤️ 5 star
Great informed video! I hope you can do Billy Ocean, Eddie Grant and Craig David.
Thank you so much! Yes I’ll see what I can put together for all three!
I absolutely love Craig David! 😊
Such an extensive catalog 👏🏾
5 Star was a group that broke barriers. Especially a group of color doing that time. They were a family like the Jacksons. Thank the Lord for their father who oversaw them. And British tabloids were harsh on them. Never mind that they were very young and teenagers And they are like that today. But because of their father this is why they never got in trouble. He knew how mean the music world could be. And that is another thing! They think Black father do not take care of their children. Here 8s proof that they do. I like this video! What I did not know that they had so many hit record's. Thanks for sharing this. I know they are no longer a group. I wonder how are they doing today in life.
Am I the only one here who still has their first album?..LOL I'm still rocking, "Let Me Be The One" you give your love too....
Loved their catchy tunes, they used to live all together in Sunningdale Berkshire in the eighties in a lovely house with Lamborghinis parked there, lots of kids hanging about.
I loved the song and video Let Me Be The One.
I saw them live, and they were excellent.
Great story. Explaining how the music 🎶 industry is so corrupt. Hard work is the yeast that rises the dough.
Great video thanks, I never knew a fraction of this information but loved a couple of their songs. Beautiful family very talented too!
❤️ 5Star one of my all time favourite groups ever still love listening and playing their music ❤️
And the Jetts!
Wow this takes me back to secondary school days, I remember a lot of the big singles🔥💯👍🏾
All fall down should be re-released. Banger of a tune
Five Star!!!!!! Love Y'all!!! "Can't Wait Another Minute" is my JAM!!!!! Happy to see you are all doing well 😍😍🙌🏽🙌🏽❤️❤️🥰🥰
Thanks for putting this group in the spotlight once again!
Listening to their music as an adult, it strikes me how solid the songs are.
Accessibility tip: it would help a lot when the volume levels of the music and the voice over would be the same.
Interesting, I never heard of them, I just found out about them because of a random RUclips comment comparing them to the Jets lol.
Brilliant effort on this Seph- well done lady!!
Loving this one thanks for sharing very information blessed love to all knowledge is power hopefully everyone pays attention keep up the good work one of my favorite group from the uk they remind me of the Jacksons would still love to see them preform 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲
Thank you so much for this 😍
I just found this doc on my favorite group:FIVESTAR !!! I'm so happy, learned a lot about them, too.Lots of nostalgia listening to their music.
Love your work. Watched a few of your videos.
Doris always was a stunner ,dang she got finer with age
She looked like Janet Jackson
Black don't crack ! 😁
My childhood. Miss them. The 80's were so great and back then the kids kept hearing how great the 60's were but everything before 2005 was great.
They were great! Thanks for spotlighting 5 star ⭐️
I love, love, love 5-Star!! I have all the albums and their 3 CD's, best of 5-Star. They got me through the 80's!
Been a fan since 1986 when I first saw the video for Let Me Be The One on VH1........and still a fan at sixty-eight!!! 🥰
Thank you for this.👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Can you do one on Aswad? They've lost TWO members now, with the original singer, Brinsley having left in 2001. I don't know if they can continue.
Yes I’ll add Aswad to the list and put something together.
I loved 5 Star❤ thank you for sharing 😊❤❤
Do your home work silly cow
Love these guys, huge fan from the first hour
interesting how folks were hating on them for having things that other artists had though.
My favourite five star single is steadman singing “please don’t say goodnight “ ❤❤❤❤
I can’t believe that Eddie was such an ass towards her. Good for her for standing up for herself.
He was an ass to her and Mel B. I guess that's just his personality?
I am an African American and I use to ❤️ love them. I thought the whole group complemented one another. They need an Unsung episode.
Lorraine dodged that bullet with Eddie Murphy back in the 1980's and he's been dating women that favors her every since Nicole Murphy.
Facts and he just love bombed/proposed to her just to $leep with her.
Really enjoying this. The first group I ever saw live. Used to also subscribe to the fan club 😁
I loved me some 5 star..my favorite song by them will always be let me be the one
I used to see Stedman driving around Romford in his blue Audi Quatro! Quality motor.
Looking for toilets to go in ?
They lived near me in the 80s, Great times!
A30 Sunningdale? Used to stop on my way home from work to have a chat at their gate. Often saw dad driving them in a BMW 633 CSI
Eddie Murphy was a weirdo trying to marry Lorraine in a short engagement 😮 glad she said no , she dodge a bullet with that peanut butter nutty butter chaser
🥜🤭🤣😂😹😸😺🥜
Yes, Lorraine deserved better.
Their father was being just that- a father.
They released a lot of singles. Most I can’t remember. The few big hits were great. Quality production work. But they were just a Jackson 5 copy without a Michael. Pop groups back then had a short lifespan because new styles were coming every couple of years. By 87/88 acid house was changing dance music and groups like these were over. Today it feels like pop music hasn’t changed much at all for ages. I still have a soft spot for them. And I fancied the girls when I was 14. Happy days.
Not just acid house, there was Bros and SAW also
Wow! this takes me back to the 1980s my school days, loved there music and was in love with all 3 of the girls they are still beautiful.
Enjoyed this documentary very entertaining. This group had some hits, made history, and lovely songs!✨✨
I friggin love them! Still bump their music! My favorite songs were For Sentimental Reasons, Save a Place, Come to Me, With Every Heartbeat, Got a Lot of Love, etc... They definitely have some awesome songs! 🔥❤🔥 And the sisters were so pretty! 😍
Can’t wait, system addiction, rain or shine 💃🏿🧡
I love them!!!! The vocals are on point!! When I was younger, I would do my makeup like Denice. Love them still!!
still listen to some of there songs now
I need to go and watch 5 star music videos now! One of my fav bands growing up 😍
I loved, Let me be the one. 💃I still play it occasionally. I didn't understand why they weren't more popular here in the states 🇺🇲
OMG..I'm loveeeeeee 5star! This was my all time favorite group back in the day!
So some demons thought it was wrong for these then teen ages to live under the same roof as a family ?
Same demons thought it was wrong that these then teen ages father did not let them drink, have that kind of life ?
No matter where you live at, if you are black, doing good, being responsible these demons, because they are demons will always have something to say.
That demon that called in while they were being interviewed shows the depravity, wickedness of these people, how vile they really are. There are some good WP, but I am Referring to the ones that love those demonic spirits that dwells in them.
Hate and jealousy go hand and hand.
Their father did a good job raising them, protecting them, keeping them in control in such a nasty business. After all they were kids and he did what any good father would do. Only the wicked had a problem with what this man did.
Because they had no dirt on them, these demons had to go and make some up, typical of the devil's off springs. No rest for the wicked.
I miss the days of 12” vinyl records
Same Digital streaming ain’t cutting it you own nothing I have a lot of records and cds and still get some from time to time
Although I wasn't born when they were around, their music sounds great!!
