I noticed most of the people criticizing these HBCU bands aren’t even musicians to begin with or they aren’t really experienced and when I say experienced I don’t mean marching for a college for 4years, I mean having a solid concept of what makes a musical ensemble great and having a solid concept of blend tone intonation and everything else. I understand some people not liking a band’s particular style but I’ll never understand bashing another ensemble because they sound a certain way. If anything the HBCU band world needs more diversity most of the hbcu bands are looked down on in the PWI and DCI band worlds because “All they do is play loud and don’t care about tone and intonation” in fact I think FAMU is one of the few hbcu bands widely known and respected outside the hbcu band world so I’m not sure why people insist on clowning them
I think what people missing is FAMU has a lil bit of everything most these other bands full up on horns/brass blow as loud as possible and it percieved as great or better. When its not its just loud

Paul Adam was Norfolk state band director for 5 year's and he was hire once by Fears as chief arranger back in 70s and by Sanford same position in 90s so no Su DNA, but Howard, Morgan state and Delaware state has alot of Southern dna
Wrong NSU root😢s came from Emery Fears. Which took over the Spartan Band in 1974 and made it the Legion in 1976 his high school band director was Dr. Foster which was at Tuskegee high. Then Foster started at Famu. I'll let you figure out the rest.
Y’all on here talking with FAM only playing two weeks into the season. This is why I don’t like battle of the bands so early in the season. It’s completely new for freshmen and no one has a real book yet.

What yall dont understand is famu doesnt adhere tobthe swac fans or anyone else. They stay to what they are. swac fans just typically know loud blaring music and thats cool but famu or its fans will never succumb to that type of stuff.

Famu fans are more refined than most. Agree to disagree. Bands in Mississippi and Louisiana have a new Orleans jazz vibe and famu has a totally different vibe. It's all regional....

The difference is clear. The 100's sound always well rounded...the piccolos adding that flavor. The other band just blasting loud noise. The musicality just isn't there with Norfolk. 🤷🏾♀️
