Thank you again for championing water colour pencils. No one on RUclips demonstrates them better. Love the picture which shows that pencils are not just for the small sketch books, although watercolour pencils and a sketchbook are a great combination out in nature.
Yay, a new watercolor pencils video!!🎉 Your technique for using watercolor pencils is my favorite! No one else on RUclips shows this technique! It makes working outdoors so much easier and faster, and I enjoy the more loose and expressive results. Thank you so much, to both of you, for taking the time to record, edit, and upload a new video! I hope you both have been well ❤️ .
Thanks for this, Charlie. Hope you're keeping well. I've really missed your demonstrations. Really liked this one. Please don't leave it too long before the next one. Apart from the art , I love the banter and humour.
The colors in this painting are wonderfully compatible with one another. I loved watching the trees slowly emerge as groupings as you scribbled. And when you activated the pigments - voila, just magnificent! I ‘ve just begun exploring water color pencils and learning different techniques. I love watching you work your magic. Thank you, Charles. Linda
Charlie, as a Brazilian, I've been searching for a technique that truly captures my vision of Brazilian landscapes. Your technique with watercolor pencils stands out as the best! No one else on RUclips showcases this method like you do. I'm confident that this technique will transform my outdoor work, making it quicker and allowing for a more free and expressive outcome. I deeply appreciate the effort both of you put into recording, editing, and uploading new videos. Thank you so much!
Am finding these watercolour pencil paintings really fascinating. As I copied the tree & landscape you demonstrated will try this too as I like my watercolour pencils. Thanks
Charlie, very good to see you “on TV” again. These pencil watercolor paintings are just mesmerizing! I’m always amazed at how the pencil scratches turn into a beautiful painting, just add water. Thank you.
thanks for the demo video. I have ordered books from you and am learning to draw and watercolor with them. I'm even making small steps forward.😊😊😊 thank you very much.
Hi Charles you have been missed, another amazing tutorial really enjoyed this one as I have been using watercolour pencils since we came back from France. Now virtually painting non stop, thanks to you for bringing out in me what a enjoy doing more that anything else. P.S. Still cutting down large rolls of masking tape😂😂
My brother had a three legged dog called Bert. He lost his front leg in a car accident, but my, could that beautiful dog run! Give Fred and Bert a pat on the thighs from me. 🐕🦺🐕🦺🐕🦺 Oh, and this is a good tutorial too! 😉✏️🎨🖍️ Happy painting.
A brilliant tutorial as usual, you do watercolour pencils so well which makes me very happy and inspires me to paint (I often lose my mojo and need a kick!!). Now to choose which of the greens to use from my Faber-Castel Albrecht Durer set. Thank you so much 😊
Cheers Charlie and Gail - much appreciated as usual. I must try to get out with the pencils and brushes for some hopefully vibrant autumn colours. You just reminded me! Hwyl fawr from the Rhondda.
Wow. I purchased watercolor pencils a few months ago but this tutorial of yours is by far the best example I’ve seen how to use the pencils. I purchased your acrylic book last year but your watercolor paintings have inspired me to get into that medium. Thank you!
Watching you work watercolor pencils is exactly what I have been thinking about. I have never been an Artist of painting or drawing, however, now that I am semi-retired and have actual free time to focus on underlying passions, I'm thrilled to have found you here on RUclips!
Hi Sir, I’m new to watercolors and I’ve been watching you almost since the beginning. You’re completely amazing and inspiring. One day I hope to paint like you, I’ve had watercolor pencils yet I’ve only used them a few times only because they never come out right. I deeply appreciate your videos. Sincerely: John
I love all your paintings whatever medium you use. I have bought one of your paints from when you demonstrated at my art lesson with Paul Gadenne. You are a lovely guy and we all love you. Keep up the good work love you lots
Hi Charles i really like watching your videos on watercolour pencils, they are very helpful and informative, I find as you say its a lot easier to carry just a tin of watercolour pencils and watercolour paper, and a small container of water and some brushes when out in the countryside, or at the beach, we go to a lot of beautiful places in Scotland like Mull or as we are going to Skye this year so will take my atr equipment with me :) thank you again
Great to see another pencil sketch. you inspired me so much with the variety of videos you produce, I now have most of you books and bought the system 3 paint system, keep them all coming you old dog I forgive you for being ex RAF I was Not and Army 😁
I don't know how I missed this one when you first put it up - or rather, when Gail put it up! - but it's a brilliant example of how W/C pencils can be used for 'proper' paintings as well as sketching. No faffing about on a piece of A4 - full size painting. Thanks. Excellent stuff. Guess what I'll be doing next? PS As you mention people moaning about the scribble noise; as you may remember, I'm as deaf as a post and always use the auto generated subtitles. They always describe the sound as 'music', 'laughter', 'applause' or sometimes 'foreign'. So you are doing something right! :) .. but sometimes, in ordinary painting videos they think you use Fookus Green - you might appreciate that one!
Morning Charles, so pleased to see your return.... Love that lifeboat picture ' behind you'... Is there a video tutorial of it? Perhaps you could add in future? Best regards👍
Always enjoy your tutorials, this one was hard to watch however because of the light flicker, haven't noticed it before in your videos, it isn't there when you are shooting towards the wall, have you changed your easel light?, looks like it's out of sync with the camera frame rate, the content made up for it though 👍
I thought the flickering light might be caused by a ceiling fan or a fluorescent light. It seems only to be there when he shows a closer view of the painting/easel. Content definitely makes up for it! 👍
Marvellous demo Charlie. Being a motorhome fanatic, I find WC pencils an absolute boon. Love that tapping motion with 3/4 inch brush as well! Some nice hints and techniques in there. I usually use Seawhite WC plein-aire sketchbooks. What paper are you using in this one? Should have listened to the end on that last question!
Thank you for another great watercolor pencil tutorial. I have some ideas to help you with reading the names or numbers on your pencils. Use a sharpie pen and write the name on the pencil. Another way is to use a label and write the name on it cover the label with clear tape to keep it from coming off or water damage. You can also color the label with the pencil so you can see the name and the color. I hope this is helpful.
I am wondering if you have tried some of the other brands of watercolor pencils. Have you tried woodless watercolor pencils? I think that the woodless pencils would save you time and sharpening?
J'admire votre technique ! Merci. Micha
The other day I bought a rough watercolor paper similar to the type that you use. I was very surprised that the watercolor pencils performed differently on rough paper vs. fine watercolor paper. The pencils dissolved more easily and left no lines. I had been struggling with Caran d ache Museum Aquarelle pencils leaving lines but on the rough paper, I had no problems. Have you found that the texture of the watercolor paper makes a difference when using watercolor pencils in your paintings?
More great work, fella. I need to start buying your stuff. Im an artist as well. But in dialysis, 3 afrernoons aweek and hard to get motivated. and waiting for my transplant next month, so fingers crossed 🤞
Thank you again for championing water colour pencils. No one on RUclips demonstrates them better. Love the picture which shows that pencils are not just for the small sketch books, although watercolour pencils and a sketchbook are a great combination out in nature.

When I found out you had written a book, called Watercolour Rescue. I ordered it right away. I can't wait to get it.
It’s been especially well received received that little book.
I so wish that I could use watercolor pencils nearly as well as you! Mine look so amateurish 😢 thanks for another lovely pencil tutorial!
It all gets better with practice.
Thank you so much sir Charles
