Are you starting to see the flaws of how you define thus historical figure now? Learn to see the good WITH the bad.
We cry for the Broadway Hamilton because he was a flawed human being who stood up for what he believed in. That is the spirit of America that I was sold as a child as history books lied to us about ugly things. We feel betrayed by the truth when we finally find out about it. But on that stage we see a man who fell down in his private life, but always told his truth. He fought and fought and made a difference. He helped make The U.S. real. For all our flaws, at least we have the freedom to make our own mistakes. The American Dream may only be a dream, the U.S. only an experiment in democracy, but we have endured. The unfairness of Hamilton being a footnote in history is being corrected and there is something very moving about that. The only person who needed to forgive him forgave him and worked the rest of her life to tell his story. This play is a love story in so many ways. That's why so many of us cry.

I LIKE this one. Plus - for those hearing it for the first time - it's easier to understand all the words and to explain in a sentence for such a short interview.
Could you consider Chicago instead of New York. I am in the mid-west so it doesn't matter to me exactly where I see it so my 2017 show. The other thing to remember is that sites like Vivid mass buy up the tickets so they are really no longer sold out. Take a look at eBay. People are on there selling last minutes tickets on the cheap (comparatively). It' is not cheap anywhere. I think the face value of my last ticket was $177 and it was an "obstructed view" seat!!
You inspired me not to wait any longer. I just purchased my spring Chicago ticket. The main thing I've learned is that high up is great for this show so I went with the mezzanine. My ticket is $147 + taxes and all but there are lots to balcony seats left in the spring for $87. I'm really looking forward to seeing it again. It's so big, its hard to take in all at once. And I have family in Chicago so aside from a cheap flight, this one won't cost me too dearly either. Take a look at one of the sites if you think you can arrange a cheap flight in and out of the city. That's what I did for one of my NYC shows...in and out the same day for the matinee. It was a busy day, but a fun one.
Mulligan and Lafayette would b confused bc they never actually met . Everyone would wonder why they aren’t white 😭 . Jefferson would b against all of it just because “he won”
Wow, I only knew Daveed Diggs as the frontman of Clipping, the best experimental hip-hop band of our time, but this is an interesting contrast. Very multi-talented guy!
I learned about him from the Bay Boy mixtape by him and Rafael Casal. It has been such a big deal for me that he has done this just because I have been listening to his music for a while. I learned about them both because of an English teacher I had in high school.
Is it just me, or does anyone else think that he's just so fluffy and wholesome and huggable?? Like I would LOVE to just hug him and tell him how great he is and how much he's inspired me to write my own stuff.
I had to explain this to my parents the other day, the same thing with Peggy/Maria, John/Philip, and Herc/Madison lol 😂😂😂 they somehow didn't understand that sometimes in shows, actors have to take on more than one role. I had to explain it to my grandma as well
Too true. They're doing a few days at the Pantages in Los Angeles, so I looked up what tickets would set me back. The cheapest seats started at $225. Oh and they were already sold out. Goddammit.
It must be a good show.. I recently checked out the Book of Moron because I heard so much stuff about it. I downloaded it on a torrent site just to see what the fuss was all about. I think I watch about 20 minutes of it and thought it was the most racist crock of shit that I have ever seen. What is wrong with these people?
maximusart Mormons aren't a race buddy. Also the Mormon church are actually cool with Book of Mormon because while it's goofy as hell, it's not actually that disrespectful to the source material.
*wink* right! because he was a rock star... He didn't DO anything for Washington (same guy who chose Hamilton? How can that BE??) to pick him for the job. The guy just SKATED through life, right? We owe him NO thanks at all! - History as told by only one side of the coin.
SuperAabbcc123456 The whole point of the musical - when you boil it down is: "(who lives, who dies) WHO TELLS YOUR STORY". So....who told THIS story about Jefferson? You minimize a founding father's life by a story and not by his known contributions.
+Mc Kenna I'm not minimizing his life, I'm minimizing his contribution towards France's support of the American Revolution. I think that most of that credit rightfully goes towards Lafayette.
A civics lesson from a slaver? Hey neighbor: your debts are paid 'cause you don't pay for labor. "We plant seeds in the ground, we create!" Yeah keep ranting - we know who's really doing the planting.
Omg this guy on instagran was all grouchy "I didn't see one white man" hmm, honey hush yo honey buns and that was totally off topic but this comment made me think of that
a play is a show that doesn't have singing only acting, a musical has singing and acting, and an opera has only singing. so technically hamilton would be an opera/sung-through musical
See it 500 times? Daveed. DAVEED. I can't even go for a first time, let alone hundreds! I get that you guys are probably waiting for the Tonys to happen before doing this, but maybe reopen ticket sales, and I could go! +Ken E The difference of listening to the cast album and seeing the play is the same as listening to an artists album and seeing them perform live. It's a completely different experience
It's funny. Jefferson here is portrayed as a swanky, Cab Calloway-style life of the party type, when in reality, he was an introverted slob who hated public speaking because of a pronounced stammer.
Lew Archer 1949 The characters in Hamilton are portrayed in what they left behind. Jefferson is such a loud figure in our history, and so he becomes a loud character on stage.
Just talking at lunch about Hamilton at school and we're debating which person is the most attractive, when I say "Thomas Jefferson, guys, just so handsome and fabulous." Then one of my classmate's head just snaps towards me, scared.
Ivory Quill XXD If I were in your situation I'd go with Laurens cause he's cute in the play AND in the actual paintings, so I could prove anyone wrong regardless of their interpretation. I mean I'd probably be called a freak, but it would've been worth it. XD
Camila , That classmate, Dilayn, apparently asked my friend about that. It was beautiful. He asked her if I was into older men or something... Oh bo,i if he knew how many guys I kinda have a crush on, but don't exist and are too old for me.
I have been fortunate enough to see Hamilton twice (touring) and I am going again this weekend but literally no one can compare in that role to Daveed Diggs. The man is charismatic af and steals every scene he is in. So handsome and just so compelling to the point that he might as well be all alone on stage.

You only really get a hint of his Clipping style in Guns and Ships though. And even that's because Miranda likens it to CLPPNG's intro.
This guy's is in Clipping?? That's awesome I loved their last album clppng
Steven should've had Clipping play the show
I heard about clipping through Hamilton
Hamiltrash overseas be like: Why am I crying over Alexander Hamilton? I'M NOT EVEN AMERICAN

Lafayette is my favorite lol

But also it’s spelled “Daveed”

Fun fact: Lafayette actually had American soil shipped to France to be buried under.
Is there a Lafayette x Thomas ship?
I need that
When you travel back in time to the revolutionary war but you can’t find Daveed Diggs anywhere

I can’t find Alexander Hamilton in my history books but I got Lafayette😅
Paris Love I’m doing a social studies project and we had to pick 2 founding fathers and Hamilton was on the list and started fangirling
The musical really made me forget that literally every single one of these characters were white
When you travel back in time to the revolutionary war but everyone isn't singing...
How could they use What Did I Miss when there's Guns & Ships?
Also, he is still casted as Lafayette in Guns & Ships. What Did I Miss is the first song of Second Act, in which is now Thomas Jefferson :)
+Kaden Jaeleah I know. I'm just saying Guns & Ships features Diggs' talent better than What Did I Miss.
I LIKE this one.
Plus - for those hearing it for the first time - it's easier to understand all the words and to explain in a sentence for such a short interview.
mechaguess exactly
Jefferson looks so cute in What did I miss tho
I never saw Hamilton and I've been dying to but I can't afford tickets and they're already sold out for the next year.
Brenda R I live in NY so I didn't even think to go to Chicago to see it. But thank you!
Awesome!
I live in nj and the cheapest seats in NY are 400ish 😢 if they were @89-150 I would have gone already 😭
What would Alexander Hamilton and everyone else think of this musical is the question
Jasmine They wouldn't like, if you'd ignore what they would think about the portrayal of themselves, they would despise the type of music
Peggy would be mad she barely did crap 🤣
Mulligan and Lafayette would b confused bc they never actually met . Everyone would wonder why they aren’t white 😭 . Jefferson would b against all of it just because “he won”
I mean, all Eliza wanted to do in her last years of life was to preserve her husband's legacy so... I think she'd be a fan
"wait I'm not black-"

@@ellaveysel1041 I would but my mom and sister would be like “BONJOUR”
Wow, I only knew Daveed Diggs as the frontman of Clipping, the best experimental hip-hop band of our time, but this is an interesting contrast. Very multi-talented guy!
I only know of Clipping because of Hamilton. It's an interesting contrast. Very multi-talented guy!
I learned about him from the Bay Boy mixtape by him and Rafael Casal. It has been such a big deal for me that he has done this just because I have been listening to his music for a while. I learned about them both because of an English teacher I had in high school.
He went from Clipping to IMTAKINTHISHORSEBYTHEREIGNSMAKINREDCOATSREDDAWITHBLOODSTAINS

Thomas Jefferson is HILARIOUS, and Marquis de Lafayette is just plain awesome!! Daveed is like my favorite actor in the cast and has the best roles
daveed is such a babe
VoDkA Absolute facts.
His outfits are all so unique and perfect!!!!!
I've seen this thousands of times and I just noticed that Daveed says "We have macaroni and cheese *points to the sky* thank you thomas."
Alyssa Hendry omfg....
Is it just me, or does anyone else think that he's just so fluffy and wholesome and huggable?? Like I would LOVE to just hug him and tell him how great he is and how much he's inspired me to write my own stuff.

"Tons" that is an understatement.

Believe me, professor, I've been asking myself the exact same thing for the past four years.
Exactly
I fricking love crossover memes
Oh, yeah. Thomas Jefferson just hung out in France. That's why they helped us, his sheer presence
*wink* right! because he was a rock star...
He didn't DO anything for Washington (same guy who chose Hamilton? How can that BE??) to pick him for the job. The guy just SKATED through life, right? We owe him NO thanks at all! - History as told by only one side of the coin.
it's almost like he's making a joke.
Lafayette is the reason France helped us, not Jefferson. Jefferson spent 90% of his time drinking with prostitutes.
SuperAabbcc123456
The whole point of the musical - when you boil it down is: "(who lives, who dies) WHO TELLS YOUR STORY".
Where does this man gets his suits?! they're freaking awesome! but then again so is he, so it's perfect
A civics lesson from a slaver? Hey neighbor: your debts are paid 'cause you don't pay for labor. "We plant seeds in the ground, we create!" Yeah keep ranting - we know who's really doing the planting.
And another thing, Mr. Age of Enlightenment: don't lecture me about the war, you didn't fight in it.
you think i'm frightened of you, man? we almost died in a trench!

People think this is an anti white play! Are you kidding me
Hyperdanceactivity4 the casting directors or Lin or whoever wanted mainly a multicultural cast
the world as i see it they wanted to reflect America as it is now not back then.
Omg this guy on instagran was all grouchy "I didn't see one white man" hmm, honey hush yo honey buns and that was totally off topic but this comment made me think of that
People are idiots what did you expect?
Exactly, and half of the people in real life weren’t actually white or fully white.
Love his hair. I must see that show.
I've listened to the cast recording at least 500 times and it still makes me emotional
What a super nice guy - I wish him all the best.
"Why am I crying over Alexander Hamilton, Daveed Diggs?" MY LIFE
yup
Daveed always has the best suits
maybe i'm just a theatre nerd but it bugs me so much when they call it a play when it's a musical
It's a "musical play." "Play" is the noun. "Musical" is the adjective. Either word is fine.
a play is a show that doesn't have singing only acting, a musical has singing and acting, and an opera has only singing. so technically hamilton would be an opera/sung-through musical
alivia y. Nope.
It bothers me too.
alivia y. It’s not. Hamilton has spoken parts.
He is so awkwardly adorable and I just love the differences between him, Jefferson, and Lafayette. What a GREAT actor! ❤

u can listen to the cast album on spotify; it's basically the whole play.
Ken E Oh, I know. The recording is basically the only thing I've listened to since October xD; I'd still love to see this show live though
+Ken E The difference of listening to the cast album and seeing the play is the same as listening to an artists album and seeing them perform live. It's a completely different experience
New block of tickets are on sale tomorrow night

His hair deserved its own Tony Award.
“What I miss?”
Me: WTF JEFFERSON YOU MISSED EVERYTHING
Na Omi a F*cking War
Hands down one of my new favorite actors
It's funny. Jefferson here is portrayed as a swanky, Cab Calloway-style life of the party type, when in reality, he was an introverted slob who hated public speaking because of a pronounced stammer.
Lew Archer 1949 well that wouldn't make for a very good play would it
@@bustinbinden Music cancels stuttering, so it would be possible if everyone sang all the time
Lew Archer 1949 The characters in Hamilton are portrayed in what they left behind.
@@Oscar----- HAVE YOU SEEN PHILIP HAMILTON IRL THO?? man oh man..

Wouldn't we all like to know.
Fr I was like way to put what I was thinking into words XD
I have been fortunate enough to see Hamilton twice (touring) and I am going again this weekend but literally no one can compare in that role to Daveed Diggs. The man is charismatic af and steals every scene he is in. So handsome and just so compelling to the point that he might as well be all alone on stage.
