Great classic movie, a very handsome Michael Paré and a very beautiful Diane Lane, Willem Dafoe as a brilliant villain and this kick ass soundtrack - legendary 80's!
why this was never released in the US is a mystery to me. so many could have been hits: that were never released. this would have been a chart topper with the right promotion and tv and radio exposure. country and pop and a/c top ten.
I first saw this film on Philadelphia television on a Sunday afternoon in 1986. I remembered Deborah Van Valkenburgh from both "The Warriors" and "Too Close for Comfort." The smile she flashes Michael Pare' when she recognizes him sitting at the counter in her diner is one of the prettiest I ever saw in any movie. I enjoyed every piece of music in the movie. Actually, it was one of the earliest uses in a full length movie of the "music video" style of filming.
Am I the only one who thinks that this song should have TOTALLY been given to Stevie Nicks, for her Rock A Little album? Even Maria McKee's vocal performance sounds just like something Stevie would've done on her version.
I worked the in Intelligence field as an operator while I was in the Marine Corps, and we used Tom Cody's line every time we were sent on an assignment, "Don't worry, they always hire bums like me for jobs like this!" That was our words to reach other that meant "God Speed and hope you make it back!" I then moved onto another agency and we still carry that tradition to this day. So wherever you are TOM CODY, YOU LIVE IN FOREVER.
Great song from the film featuring the incomparable Maria McKee Still sounds awesome and her voice is wonderful Good film, very style over substance but looks good and better than most of the dross released these days
Crazy movie! It's billed as "rock and roll fable". Lots of good actors in really strange roles. Completely spaced that Maria had anything to do with it! Most of the film is about a woman singer who is on the verge of making it big. I should have made the connection! Thanks, probably have to find a VHS player so I can "rewind" this one and take another look and listen!
Musicrelic Hate to say it, but funny how so many things about Maria were "shouldhavebeens"? This was a very cool movie that flopped at the box office...WTF she never seemed to get a break?!?
Anthony RUclips fan I agree with your comment about this song fitting nicely on stevie nicks rock a little album.☺️ hell Maria mckee sounds a lot like stevie in some of her songs like ways to be wicked and shelter and of course she and Tom Petty collaborated on many songs. remember when Mick Fleetwood added Bekka Bramlett and Dave mason to the Fleetwood Mac lineup in 1994 after stevie Nick's left? I think if he added Maria mckee along with Bekka Bramlett and got steve Vai or Kenny Wayne Shepard into the mix Fleetwood Mac would have begun a new chapter of hard rock in blues that would have been a force to reckon with!!!!😎 peace Ricky Parker.

@airdriver- actually the soundtrack was put together for the film - and the separate soundtrack release - by some of the big guns of the time. Part was due to having "names" on the sounddtrack to help sell it & to rights issues, which was done AFTER the film was finished and post production was completed. Nothing to do with coke or being stupid...

1984. Lone Justice's Maria McKee with Tom Pettty and the Heartbreakers for a backing band; not bad at all. After seeing her in "Lady Beware", I would have taken Diane Lane home in a heartbeat. Still would. Roseanne Cash also did a good version of this and took it up the Country charts a year later.
If you think that's bad, you should see the confusion over the song "I Can Dream About You". It was written and recorded by Dan Hartman for the soundtrack album. In the movie, the sing was lip-synched by The Sorels(Lead singer Stoney Jackson) but was actually recorded by Winston Ford. The people involved with the music for this film were either coked up or just plain stupid.
Maria mckee sounds a lot like stevie Nick's! I always thought she was WAY underrated! check her out as lead singer of LONE JUSTICE! very very good album!😎 peace Ricky Parker.
Of course the songs that could have never been from the actual singers, (as those who thought the songs could never have - 'got along' with the singers of the songs- who'd just come along and sang those songs for people who were just- getting along- like me... so, as much as I can, I would like to thank those, who, like me, sang along to any old song that came along...
From my childhood I loved this song, which was used in the film, but the version wich was used in film could not be found anywhere. Everywhere Maria mkees version is uploaded. Does anyone know the movie version?, maybe provide me with a link. I want to find. Thank you

2024, still listening Maria!
I love Maria McKee. Great voice. Very good soundtrack for this movie. I always thought Streets of Fire should be made into a Broadway show.
let´s make a petition.
I have only known this song by Rosanne Cash ! Wow !
Best song on the album, by far. I love Maria Mckee. She should have been a HUGE STAR with that voice.
Great classic movie, a very handsome Michael Paré and a very beautiful Diane Lane, Willem Dafoe as a brilliant villain and this kick ass soundtrack - legendary 80's!

Never Be You
Artist:Maria Mckee
Take a look in my eyes
It's been a long, long time
I used to feel so strong
When I knew you were mine
Since you let me down
I'm hard to be around
I don't know what I'm gonna do
He could never be you
He could never be you
He could never be you
I guess it all comes around
Baby please don't cry
Love is gonna be a little reckless
Oh Love is all I have to stand trial
But since you let me go
There's nothing going on
I don't know what I'm gonna do
He could never be you
He could never be you
He could never be you

No sé lo que voy a hacer
Nunca podrías ser tú
Nunca podrías ser tú

Oh amor es todo lo que tengo para ser juzgado
Pero desde que te fuiste

Laura Sargent's version is the best one. Someone knows whether this fuul version? . I'm looking for years ...
I Love Laurie Sargent's Version as Well!
Russell Shulman where I can see Laurie's version ?
This movie reminds me of someone P J
Laurie Sargent version is best. I wish soon find it....

Michael Pare is GOD
I think Maria, with her "homespun", Lone Justice, all-American sweetheart look of '84-'85, would have been a much better visual for this song....hell, for the lead in the movie too while I'm at it....

I guess I fell a bit for Diane Lane in this time frame.
I liked the one heard in the Movie much better. I believe it was a band named "Fire Incorporated."
Laurie sargent's version is the best! 💗💗💗
Also like Roseanne Cash's hit version of this song.
Co written by tom petty...R.I.P Tom...
Man that actress just isn't pulling off the pretend singing look.
I love, love, love Maria, but prefer Rosanne Cash's version of this tune.
