Correction at 6:40 You can use an item to give more damage but you need to have the trident in your offhand and the weapon in your main hand.
Not sure if you had done something like it before but I like the perspective change when you threw it up and it landed back on you.
I hope bedrock gets offhand feature
From what I understand, holding a sword with Looting can affect the drops from kills made with other items. Is that the case with riptide?
Next video idea :
Foxes )
Not only that, the enchantments of the stuff in the main hand works too. Let's say in my survival world, I am holding a fire aspect 2 sword in main hand and a trident in the other. If I throw that trident, the cow that I kill will drop steak like a normal fire aspect sword. It works with riptide too, so it's pretty neat.
Who else thinks tridents should have been an exclusive item in ocean monuments that way it incentivizes people to explore them and be kind of like elitra in the end ship.
Exactly. In my Minecraft world, I have found a couple of ocean monuments, but I haven't a trident to my name yet... Nice idea BTW@
I think the trident would have to be a lot better than it is for that
Theres 3 Elder Guardians & 3 spearheads on a Trident so it'd also make sense
@@shrek1745 Good point! Make it stronger!
@@GSoulNight Pretty sure there is a Vanilla+ mod that fixes that. Each Elder Guardian drops a single "Trident Shard"
3 Trident Shards + 2 Prismarine Shards = A brand new Trident
This way you can actually obtain the Trident in a organic matter. Instead of killing 50+ Drowneds and praying to heavens that one of them drops one by pure chance (which will be unusable until you finally get mending, due to it's low durability)
I kinda wish riptide passively increased swim speed while held
Same it's so disappointing how you can't be aquaman
Couldn't you do that with an attribute? you'd have to cheat the item, but you can make boots with the attribute that they make you faster, or swords that give you more health. is there an attribute for swimming speed?
@@lukas-kevynmuller6697 deep strider is the name. Put it on your boots and you will be faster i vatter and you don’t have to cheat to get it
@@oath_wine yes but depth strider makes riptide less effective because it increases water drag so you won't get launched as far by the trident.
@@edgybread1618 Wait what I have riptide 3 and depth strider, I guess I’m taking off my boots
There's actually a trick that you can do while using a riptide trident. If you hold it in your offhand and strike a mob with the dash, your character will actually hit the mob with whatever weapon you're holding in your main hand, instead of the trident. If you have a netherite axe with Smite V, killing drowned this way is a treat.
Yeah or you could hold a looting III sword

Yeah, whenever there's thunder, I instantly stop what I'm doing, grab my channeling trident (without impaling, else you'd kill the creeper). And go on a hunt for some mob heads. @@thebush6379 you definitely won't kill the creeper with one hit, but the creeper gonna explode.
A little warning! Tridents get destroyed (java) if you throw them into the void, even with loyalty.
Lmao to late i was fighting the ender dragon and trying to destroy the crystal and it miss and it fall to the void i was confused why it wont come back
I was fighting a shulker and when it was about to hit, it teleported so it got thrown into the void
Thanks for the tip!
Yeah it only comes back after it hits something. Very sad
Grian thanks you for this info... Oh, too late
Also, if you don't have an elytra, you can use slow falling potions in a rainstorm with riptide trident. Allows you to quickly travel long distances over land and sea.
you don't need potions to do that not even rain, just a water bucket

Channeling can also convert Villagers to Witches, Turtles to Wooden Bowls, and Red Mooshrooms to Brown Mooshrooms (and vice-versa), as well as a couple of Advancements. Also, a Lightning Rod will prevent Skelly Trap Horses from Spawning within a 30 Chunk area, so remove them if they are temporary, or place them underground where Lightning can't strike them. This can be a Light-Blue Dyed Glass block placed at the Build Limit above the Lightning Rod if you are just using them as a decoration in your Builds.

A nice tip for the “tip and trick” - if you have a map with a compass on it and you go to the nether you can see where you’re going in the overworld on the map
Does this work on bedrock edition or Java edition or does it work on both
@@serialstray yes I tested it out on bedrock you have have made the map in the overworld before you go the the nether I'm playing on a phone so it works with pocket edition
@@serialstray a man of science, I salute you

In Mojang's Combat Test Snapshots, tridents will not only deal more damage to water mobs but will also deal more damage to players in contact with water
The extra damage to players in water is a bedrock thing, kinda wish it worked in Java
I want to add some additional information: You can trade nautilus shells with drowneds for a full durability trident. But you need the drowned to be holding a trident for it to work. Most will not give it to you, but it works with other ones if you keep trying.
Wow! I'll have to try this!!
@@revenevan11 Only in bedrock. Be careful. + They must not be attacking anything.
Just a random fun fact I thought I’d bring up: Trident entities always deal damage on Bedrock regardless of how many targets it hits or how long it’s been since the last hit so you can use them with some pistons and observers to make extremely simple AFK mob killing chambers that still drop XP
Yeah, and thrown tridents don't take durability damage so they never break. But I never knew they don't do that on java
@@thebush6379 Yep that too. A weird quirk I found though is that if you make one of them on multiplayer it won’t drop XP unless the player who threw the trident is online. Obv not to big of an issue just rethrow the trident every time but still kinda interesting that the trident entity and the player are pretty much always tied together. Maybe you could make like a login detector with it or something.
@@liltylenol you could easily make a login detector with it but idk how you would get a thrown trident from some1 you want to make a detector for

I had no idea your trident could DESPAWN if you didn't go get it fast enough!
But why the trident killer are not despawning?
Also loyalty 3 gets rid of that worry
@@bunny1780 maybe it’s only on Java cause i thrown a few of trident that i got from drowned because I dont need them and it never dispawn.
@@josevladimiraustria2736 yea im on bedrock as well and have never seen a trident despawn in a trident killer. Im just saying if the OP is worried about losing it after throwing it then loyalty 3 is ur best friend... loyalty wouldnt work in a trident killer for obvious reasons lol
@@bunny1780 i dont know if trident killer is a thing in Java.
I wouldn't say it's op but it is pretty cool. I used one for a long time with mending/loyalty and the damage doesn't really compete with a sharpness sword or a power bow. Impaling is mostly useless and channeling requires a thunderstorm which is very situational. Riptide is nice I guess but you can't have both riptide and loyalty and having it come back after you throw it is way better imo.
a riptide trident stays in your inventory you can’t throw it
Tridents are incredibly useful though. It’s a ranged weapon that doesn’t require ammo. It’s the ideal weapon if you’re in an ocean biome especially if you have riptide and with impaling you one shot pretty much all mobs in the ocean and when it’s raining
@@keylogram_3146 infinity bow isn't hard to get and can do way more damage. How often are you gonna be in water tho
@@Azuruh infinity bows may have unlimited ammo but the durability is limited because mending and infinity can’t go together. Sure it can be fixed up every now and then but that costs xp. Don’t get me wrong though I do still use it anyway but it has its use just like tridents do. Bows are pretty much useless in water and in my current world my house is in an ocean biome. I keep both a loyalty and a riptide trident in my inventory at all times
Yeah it’s overhyped bc people want to like it but ofc in reality it’s not practical
One thing he forgot to add, if you get the Dolphin's Grace effect, you go way faster underwater and in the air with a riptide trident.

9:49 i use to do that but is more efficient if at the moment of getting out of the water you open the elytra, the trident impulse will be transfered 2 the elytra
This is true you can get like 100 blocks up if you open elytra quick
Great video that was an awesome throw/camera shot!! I did not know a lot of this stuff
A Very common misconception about the Impaling enchantment (for bedrock atleast) is it will work for ANY mob that touches water meaning you could bring a water bucket on you and as long as any mob touches it, you will benefit from the impaling effect
And I underestimated the Impaling enchantment at first until I realised that it's deadly (in rain/water). I don't suggest Channelling and Impaling together.
Not in Java. It has to be considered a water mob (guardian, elder guardian, fish, drowned, and dolphins are the ones)
@@lukraniom8731drowned aren’t affected by it because they’re considered undead mobs, not aquatic
No, impaling just increases damage on mobs that live in the water (fishes, guardians, squids, etc.) with the exception of drowned.
Again you aren’t a bedrock player,Java tridents are absolute weak sauce.
Riptide’s enchantment during any rain or thunder storms can be used alongside elytra as a very effective travel tool, no need to waste a few fireworks.
I decided to name my throwable trident "Stormbringer" (or maybe "Thunderstrike", still not sure yet) and the one with Riptide "Maelstrom".

The quick movement for melee and the ability to also have range with one shotting most mobs is really good

hi eyecraft I know a lot about minecraft but I still watch your vids cause they're super fun and informative. Also I think there's a way to guarantee getting a trident from a trident drowned by giving it a nautilus shell, apparently it drops the trident and picks up the nautilus shell
Tridents are so helpful for exploration I always get one and a riptide trader asap. Use your boat and pull up near shore, riptide into the air for a look to spot things of interest
I really feel like tridents shouldn't despawn that quickly when they're so valuable!
I'm guessing it's reused code from arrows. But they should change it in an update (especially if channeling and loyalty are mutually exclusive enchantments)!
Also, trident carrying drowned 2 hit unarmored players which seems a bit OP especially if you spawn in an ocean biome.
In the video when you used riptide with elytra I noticed you only activated the elytra when you were done with launching yourself. It's actually much more effective if you spam space as you're releasing the trident if you're launching yourself from a water source. Also you can use waterlogged chests instead of source blocks, which you can place around your base as convenient launching platforms.
I barely ever use firework rockets when traveling in the overworld, I use my trusty riptide trident almost all of the time.
I like the fact that impaling 5 will work on any mob wether they are water based or not they just need to get their feet wet with a simple bucket of water or be caught in a sudden storm also riptide can be used in rain and if you pair it with an elytra you can use the forward momentum the trident provides to help fly through the air without the need of rockets.
I was watching his how to start a new world then i foumd this and as soon as it started i fond a mineshaft and a giant cave thanks!
Its quit hilarious how I was waiting for you to finally mention that elytra and riptide trident function.
No, seriously. You are perhaps the first one to ever mention that the riptide 3 trident can make you fly hundreds of blocks with an open elytra by *one* charge or throw
Just want to add a few things. I know your video mainly focus on the Java edition but the trident does behave differently on Bedrock edition.
1. Player thrown tridents on bedrock don't despawn hence why they are used in trident killers. Also applies the looting effect if the person who threw the trident is holding a sword with looting.
2.Tridents with channeling regardless if its regular rain or a thunder storm will cause a lightning strike on bedrock edition.
3. Impaling will cause extra damage to any mob in water/rain on bedrock edition.
4.Using riptide to fly during rain/thunderstorm with an elytra doesn't cause durability damage to the trident on bedrock edition but it does on java edition. So if you play bedrock edition always keep a riptide trident on you for free flying when it rains to save firework rockets.
Good video though.
About point number two, this only applies to lightning rods and due to a bug. From experience the trident only works in thunder and in rain if it hits a lightning rod.
But yes, tridents are dope in Bedrock. I keep a loyalty and riptide on me all the time
@@dtslawyer6970 You are correct. I forgot to mention that aspect.
hey man youve got really useful and straightforward videos. earned a sub from me
Love your style; excellent MC youtubery right here. Eyecraft and Ray's Works are the best

In Bedrock Edition the Impaling Enchantment affects any mob that is on Water or Rain
Thats why bedrock better
I'm not sure if it's the same in java, but in bedrock, Impaling enchantment increases the damage of the trident, both melee and ranged attacks as long as the mob/player you hit is touching water/rain.
I found 4 tridents in a row a couple of days ago. Never realised how rare that was until now
I miss the old way of any drowned having a chance to drop a trident. I rigged my zombie spawner to convert into drowned if I wanted it
In my opinion there should be a weapon update on which they add more weapons and variations of already existing weapons, for example a pitchfork or hell fork, they don’t work on water but they can be enchanted with fire aspect and when you throw it, it burns the enemy you threw it at
Well the combat test snapshots
Were a thing
Yes no new weapons but there were changes
Like axes being able to have any enchanent the sword has
All weapons being a Lot faster almost spammable like twice the speed they have currently in Java
Shields were nerfed to just block 5 damage potions are stackable ( only drink potions )
Bows lower accuracy the longer you hold them to encourge to try these sniper or camper táctics with the crossbow
There is attack reach Stat now
Axes are the slowest and shortest but strongest
Swords are medium
And hoes are the longest fastest and weakest ( now their damage along with axes increases by 1 for every material tier netherite hoes deal 2 hearts )
The damage of axes and swords is lowered
Now all swords deal 1 less damage and all axes deal 1 extra damage compared to the sword of the same material
Axes have their own exclusive enchantment called cleaving it increases the shield stun and damage ( cleaving 3 axe Aka the max deals the same damage as sharpness 9 sword of the same material)
Multishot of the crossbow now can hit the same entity with all arrows working as a shot gun
Snowballs can be stacked upto 64 but have a small cooldown
Riptide works on anything on water or rain
And a Lot more
So flame for a bow basically
gave ya a sub, you deserve it
The by accident by your base is so true I got 2 tridents from drowns just spawning in my sugarcane farm
Fun fact using a sharpness IV,looting III sword hit the drowned that has a trident one time then hit it with a fortune 3 picked your chance of getting a trident 90/100 I did 6 times and got 5 trident on MC bedrock tho the fortune act as an additional looting 3

Getting 2 tridents was quite annoying, but the riptide trident is amazing with elytra, especially since I have a base in an archipelago area. Loyalty is kind of fun, but a bow is just better.
Also, I little note about riptide with elytra that wasn't mentioned in the video: if your elytra is active before you use riptide you will go further than if you use riptide then activate the elytra.
i remember once climbing as high as i could with a trident then i used a stack of fireworks to just go up as high as i could and then i came to a perfect glide in one direction by watching the coordinates(on bedrock edition) and i glided for quite some time when i hit the ground i had traveled over 18000 blocks from my base lol, i was on a private server with friends that was really good so i never got the chunks not loading problem
The really unfortunate thing is that depth strider boots increase water drag, making riptide really slow or hardly propel you while in the water. You can still go into the air from the water and that's not affected, same applies for rain. But before traveling through an ocean I would recommend taking off your boots if they have depth strider or not enchanting them with depth strider at all.
I unfortunately had no option with the enchantments because I've got is as bonus enchant to prot 3 so I always just take them off
What exactly has changed about the abilities of the trident that make them specifically OP in 1.19? Seems they’re exactly the same. Fun, but for the most part an inferior melee weapon while swords exist..
Nothing, they just did that annoying youtuber thing where they constantly change their title to make it seem like the video is more recent/relevant than it is.
They should make it so channeling work when its only raining but doesn't cause fire. They can also make riptide hits do high knockback and mojang should make the despawn time longer. They're too rare to despawn in one minute
Good guide. Thx
1:13 Note you don't actually have to kill 140 of them, you only need to kill the ones holding a trident. Like 13 of them.
Does Impaling only work on water-based mobs or all mobs within water? And does this extend to rain?
If your on bedrock, its all mobs that are in water, in java its "water mobs" only drowned, guardians, tropical fish etc
@@Eyecraftmc thank you
@@Eyecraftmc hopefully java will get the parity so all mobs in water get the extra damage there aswell

tridents are probably the best weapon in my opinion. Pretty sick that you can put mending and loyalty, unlike bow's which you can't put infinity and mending on at the same time
The easiest way I found to get tridents is by throwing Nautilus shells directly at the drowned with tridents and then they give you the trident on Bedrock Edition

@@killestone Drowned prioritize holding nautilus shells in BE so they drop whatever else they are holding. It is a quick way to get a full durability trident. Though the drop rate in BE is so much higher then Java it's not hard to get a lot of them quickly just killing drowned.

When I was trying to get the stuff to make my drowned farm a ghost killed me while getting the soulsand. And if you use a elytra with a riptide trident you basically go faster then having fire works
Tridents with riptide actually reduces the durability of armour by a lot, you can break netherite in 50 hits
Live your videos so well explained
I like carrying 2 or even 3 Impaling V, Loyalty III tridents in the water to alternate throwing so I'm not ever waiting for tridents to return. Elder Guardians are painfully easy to kill from a distance
Great guide for tridents
In bedrock edition, If you have Strength II paired with an Impaling V and Riptide III Trident, you can equip your Elytra, and if it is raining and you hit a player with full Prot 4 Netherite with the riptide charge while flying, it does 4 hearts of damage due to:
1. Impaling scaling on players in Bedrock (offering more than Sharp V netherite)
2. Elytra Crits
3. The Strength boost
Yea I remember having these enchantments on my Trident (except riptide ig) and clearing ocean monuments a lot easier than it should be lmao. Then I literally named my trident the Poseidon.
Tip: Sometimes (not always works) giving a trident drowned nautilus shell sometimes give (throw)their trident. And the trident will be on full durability.

One worthy add on, do not throw trident into the void as it will never land on a block thus will not come back to you even with Royalty enchantment.
I find trident being most useful as it act as both sword and arrow. One weapon that did it all.
It's also a great if not only way to reliably get charged creeper for grinding mob heads. In the past we'll have to rely on pure RNG but now with trident it's so much easier. Technically possible with lightening rods but it's still pretty RNG.
Thanks 😁
Damn trident with loyalty enchantment feels like Thor’s Mjolnir so cool!!
u can also add sharpness 5 and power 5 for haveng big melie damage
That trident storm is so cool, remind me of final fantasy XV 😆
That was sweet !
I think it'd be cool if using the trident of groups of fish, if you hit one, the trident comes back with a fish and some xp.
I think it would be cool if the Trident could be used while you have your shield held up (with reduced attack speed as well). I know they probably wouldn't add more animations to vanilla, but a spear thrust from behind a shield would be cool (although I'm sure there are differences between a spear and a trident IRL). Help it differentiate between Sword vs. Axe vs. Trident
Speaking of shields, I wish they got variations and exclusive enchantments, they break too quickly.
@@RealValkor i'm like 99% sure you can enchant them with unbreaking III and mending BUT they could definitely use a little bit more. A thorns enchant? Or a 'parry' enchant that could stun melee and reflect projectiles better (skeleton arrows, ghast fireballs, ender dragon breath, etc.)
@@King_Cyn I agree! It's a shame mojang doesn't take community ideas that often. I would normally just make or download a mod but currently I'm playing in bedrock.
Thank you for your help to make me a OP Trident 👍👍👍
Great vid. You just forgot that some trident enchantments are mutually exclusive.
None of methods mentioned here for PvP are really competitive, and the genuinely useful one was skipped
1. Melee attacks - outperformed by dedicated weapons - swords and axes (9 damage vs 11 or 13 damage)
2. Regular ranged throws - outperformed by bows (8 damage vs 13 on half charge, 15 full charge and 25 critical damage, plus fire) that can fire more rapidly because you don't need to wait for the arrows to return to you
3. Lighting ranged throws - still outperformed by bows (8+5 damage plus fire vs 13 on half charge, 15 full charge and 25 critical damage, plus fire)
4. Riptide attack - outperformed by riptide attack... but with the trident in offhand and netherite axe in main hand (9 damage vs 13 damage)
No matter where is your riptide trident - main hand or off-hand you do as much damage as the weapon in main hand
If you replace axe with sword, you can also riptide into targets with looting on it to obtain more ink sacs
The edit was perfect
Here's another tip of obtaining one just throw a natulius shell at the drowned holding the trident and when it picks up the shell it drops an undamaged trident try it it works and if it doesn't blame me
