    Video from 2021 • Japanese Black Pine Bo...
    Japanese Black Pine Calendar for 2022
    Late Winter:
    Start to fertilize once you see the buds swelling
    Here in the PNW, my buds started to swell
    at the end of February
    Fertilizer Schedule:
    Feb 27th
    March 30th
    May 17th - Last application of fertilizer until Fall
    Decandling:
    June 20th
    Date is chosen based on PNW’s growing season and how long I want
    the new buds to grow. Earlier you decandle, you get longer needles and longer internodes.
    The later you decandle, the shorter your needles and internodes will be.
    Bud selection and fertilize:
    Mid October - end of November
    Once buds open up and harden off(needles are hard and pokey). You then select 2 buds
    that are similar in size relative to the tree.
    Next year I will be wiring. I would've wired this year but life is pretty busy right now!
    Thank you very much for your new and continued support!

    • @PNWBonsai
      @PNWBonsai  Год назад

      Great question! When developing a tree, the tree might not look great most its life. Because you might developing a branch or you are leaving lots of foliage to gather more strength for the tree. In this case, in by next spring, I can remove all the long needles because the growth from this year will be accumulating enough energy to where I can remove the long needles.

    6:54 why this candle has long needles on the bottom part and shorter at the tip?

    • @PNWBonsai
      @PNWBonsai  Год назад

      The bottom needles are last years needles. I keep them on so the tree can gain more energy. After this year they will be removed as the small needles from the top will be used to gain energy.

    Do you have any idea what happened to Bonsai Northwest? I'm on the east side of the state and would go to Bonsai Northwest from time to time for supplies, but the last time I wanted to go, I discovered they're no longer in business and I would like to know what happened to them. Was it a pandemic-caused failure? Thank you!

    • @PNWBonsai

      So they closed their doors November of 2020. Not exactly sure why though. BUT there is a new owner of Bonsai Northwest and they are open on Sundays from 11-4 I think. Check out www.bonsainw.com/ they are based out of Maple Valley now!

    • @PNWBonsai

      Hello Alex, so I start fertilizing around the end of February and each month until May. After decandling in June, I do not add fertilizer until around November.
