'V for Vendetta' written by Alan Moore and drawn by David Lloyd, began serialization in the British magazine Warrior; it was completed under DC Comics' Vertigo imprint and collected into the graphic novel. I actually love the film as much, if not more, than the book.
15:32 "what does that mean?" It means he's gay, and that's illegal in this movie's version of England. This is possibly the most realistic part of this movie. Homosexuality used to be illegal in England. If convicted, they were forced to choose between prison and chemical castration. The side effects of the drugs were horrific. I recommend watching The Immitation Game starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Keira Knightley. It's set during and after World War 2, which was when it was still illegal to be gay.
A lot of different Tyrants tend to target "undesirables". The wording changes to fit the times but the overall premise is the same. You'll see similar albeit the same parallels in today's age with very specific political figures.
That is what a desperate regime does. A stable government is able to set up balanced opposition within the population. Red vs blue, if you will. This is how free masonry controls the world. Targeting “undesirables” is for small and short term regimes.
Yeah. Lately the "undesireables" have been called garbage, deplorables, etc. The fictional government in the movie, supposedly "christian" and "conservative", is not exactly as realistic as the very real and tyrannical "progressive" and "secular" governments in the West. I'd be jailed the moment I set foot in England/UK for thought crimes.

I have the mask from the movie. If there was a movie I stand by the ideals of as principle. It is this movie.
This is a very good movie, and I think it strikes Americans especially hard as they are frustrated by out of control their government and country seems to be. This was rather controversial when it came out as it was released not too long after 9/11 happened. There were, and still are, many who suspect that the twin towers were an inside job, and the goal was to pass the Patriot Act and begin the War on Terror. The movie matches the history of those times in an uncanny way. It is because of this that the secret hacker organization, Anonymous, uses Guy Fawkes masks.
"There were, and still are, many" - Not so many anymore since most of those lunatics have moved on to other crazy conspiracies like vaccines, 5G and wind farms.
What do you mean, how did we feel when we saw parliament being blown up in a film? Probably the same zero reaction Americans have whenever the white house or most of New York is blown up in movies 😂
Pretty much. Loss of historical buildings are unfortunate but loss of life is usually the only thing on my mind when that happens. They buildings matter less than people

The irony is that the government in the movie is inverted IRL. We've got "secular, progressive" governments being the tyrannical, censorious ones across the West today. Even in my country we don't have Free Speech anymore.
" if we allow others to make our decision for us we become victims of their choices"😢 "You cannot take from a man that which he is willing to die for."😮

I am Belgian, so western Europe, near England, France, Holland and Germany. I saw this film 10 years ago, the first time, and today our reality looks more and more like this film, you would think that the scriptwriters had anticipated the direction our world was taking.
The letter V is subtly hidden everywhere in this movie. In one scene they play Beethoven's 5th. V is the roman numeral for 5, but also the main theme in the symphony is the iconic "bum, bum, bum, buuummm," and "dot, dot, dot, dash" is the letter V in Morse code. You should definitely watch The Count of Monte Cristo. The more recent one starring Jim Caviezel, Guy Pearce, and a young Henry Cavill is great, and has a lot of similar themes in this movie which are alluded to in this film.
DC the company had a branch called Vertigo. This is where more indie-types of stories and sometimes more...matured stories of say..Batman or Constantine would be. Watchmen, Y: The Last Man, 100 Bullets, Fables, and Sandman were some of the most popular
V for Vendetta pre dated Vertigo, as did Watchmen and Constantine, but based on their successes, Vertigo was created, and those titles were put under that banner after the fact. Vertigo was called “the Alan Moore wannabe club”
I don't remember Batman ever having a Vertigo story, aside from he, Superman and Martian Manhunter showing up at a funeral in Sandman. You might be thinking of Black Label.
Interesting fact, Vee is played by Hugo Weaving, who also plays Agent Smith in the Matrix films. Weaving stepped into the role with two weeks prep before primary shooting, after the actor originally chosen for the part, quit, because they didn't feel confident they could do well in a role where their face was obscured the whole time. As an audience, we tend not to think about the fact that the expression of emotional context and nuance is done almost entirely through an actor's face, so roles where they are not able to use that facet of their features represent a significant challenge. The fact that Hugo Weaving did such a good job in the part is pretty amazing, even before you consider how little time he had to prepare for it.
What a film. The parallels reflected today are eerie. I must suggest you watch "1984", you'll recognize the protagonist in it (okay, I'll give a hint: chancellor)
@ 21:37 Ok I know during this scene it is a serious scene, but to the Editor of this video, when Gordan say "It will be fine, trust me." then cut immediately to the door collapsing on him was hilarious
Happy V for Vodo Day! One quote that is overlooked in this movie is, "A building is a symbol, as is the act of destroying it. Symbols are given power by people. Alone, a symbol is meaningless, but with enough people, blowing up a building can change the world." Which is absolutely true. Look at how the world changed after the World Trade Center was destroyed.

2 things to note: 1) Stephen Fry (the actor who plays Gordon Deitrich) is known to be gay in real life. When he talks about "inviting who he wants to dinner", he's referencing dating men, because homosexuality is outlawed by the dictatorship. He invites women around to be his beards to disguise his homosexuality from the public. In fact, at the start of the movie, Evie was preparing to attend his invite, but then got stopped by the secret police. 2) This movie came out in 2005. It's hard to describe how much more hated gays were back then. In 2004, George W Bush had promised to put in the Constitution a ban on gay marriage, that's how controversial it was back then.
And yet it was a lot better then than it had been 20 years earlier. Nobody proposed such a ban in the 80's because the general public had never even considered the idea. Remarkable how far we have come in my lifetime.
This movie has a very special place in my heart. In that when I first saw it back when it released in theaters....I HATED it. Just could NOT stand anything about it. I remember going to see it after the end of the Matrix Trilogy, and just being so frustrated with everything about it. "oh god...ANOTHER long monologue from a character, just like the Matrix." "oh god, ANOTHER slow motion action scene and pretentious dialogue about society, etc." Just being genuinely angry and anxious about sitting through it. But then something interesting happened. I got older. I remember it being like 10-15 years later, and I would suddenly think of a particular scene from the film and think "That was a good scene, I should pull it up on youtube and watch it." and I would. And then I'd remember another scene and think "Oh yeah, that scene was actually pretty good. I should pull it up on youtube and watch it." And I did. And after like the 5th or 6th isolated scene like that I actually realized "....wait....DO I actually still hate this film? Because I'm liking a whole lot of it in isolation. Maybe I just needed to get some distance from the Matrix stuff. So I watched it again in it's entirety, and I do genuinely love the film. I don't know if it's simply down to I'm older and more mature now, and can appreciate a lot more of what was being presented in this film. Or maybe it was more poignant these days with the real world situation. But I've come to really love this film. The performances, the cinematography, the music, the script, etc. It's a really damn good film.
V was played by the amazingly talented Hugo Weaving (Lord of the Rings, The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, and The Matrix, just to name a few). Also, the mask V wears is that of Guy Fawkes - a soldier and member of a group involved in the failed Gunpowder Plot of 1605 to blow up Westminster Palace. A perfect fit for this movie’s plot!

We had a saying in the Army: “S.S.D.D.”, Iykyk.
Dude your old videos are literal time capsules of your personality lol how much has changed in only 3 years is cray cray. Love seeing your OG set up from when you first started reactions 🙌
I love this movie. Hugo Weaving is excellent as V and Natalie Portman is brilliant in this movie. This takes inspiration from George Orwell’s 1984. It is about standing up against unjust government. I have the mask from the movie. If there was a movie I stand by the ideals of as principle. It is this movie.
Rather fitting to have John Hurt, who played Winston Smith in the film adaptation of 1984, effectively play Big Brother in this film

"i wonder how people felt in london?" . lady i dont think a single brit would shed a tear if that building vanished lol
Some ppl think 9/11 was an inside job.
Other ppl think steel and concrete can crush itself at freefall speed until only powder is left.
This is my 2nd favourite movie of all time. It's the most beautiful script I've ever seen for a movie. Incredible.
“If you’re looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror” has bit more gravity now, since the posting of this video.

One of Hugo Weavings best and most iconic roles and you never see his face. The things he does with just his voice and body language! Now that is acting!! 👏
It has become a cult classic. The themes of it continue to be relevant today.
I mean the group Anonymous wears the mask
The irony is that the government in the movie is inverted IRL. We've got "secular, progressive" governments being the tyrannical, censorious ones across the West today. Even in my country we don't have Free Speech anymore.
" if we allow others to make our decision for us we become victims of their choices"😢
"You cannot take from a man that which he is willing to die for."😮
Absolutely love this film, it's exciting and action-packed, yet it also feels so powerful and meaningful. Plus, it's got some absolutely killer lines (many others have already spotlighted their favourites, so I'll throw out mine - "Beneath this mask there is more than flesh. Beneath this mask there is an idea, Mr. Creedy, and ideas are bulletproof."), and stellar performances from pretty much everyone, especially Hugo Weaving. Pretty much compulsory viewing for me every November 5th.
In the comic the detective takes acid at Larkhill and experienced what it was like to be someone imprisoned there. Pretty powerful scene.

The first time I watched it, I was on a first date with my future late wife and I kept her awake talking about it.
I have to wonder if, with the Wachowskis still being closeted at this time, that Evie kissing the mask had any special significance. "You wear a mask for so long you forget who you were beneath it."

I am Belgian, so western Europe, near England, France, Holland and Germany. I saw this film 10 years ago, the first time, and today our reality looks more and more like this film, you would think that the scriptwriters had anticipated the direction our world was taking.
We get to see throwback VKunia.❤️
The letter V is subtly hidden everywhere in this movie. In one scene they play Beethoven's 5th. V is the roman numeral for 5, but also the main theme in the symphony is the iconic "bum, bum, bum, buuummm," and "dot, dot, dot, dash" is the letter V in Morse code. You should definitely watch The Count of Monte Cristo. The more recent one starring Jim Caviezel, Guy Pearce, and a young Henry Cavill is great, and has a lot of similar themes in this movie which are alluded to in this film.
Hope you might read & or see "1984"
"Those willing to sacrifice a little bit of freedom for a little bit of safety deserve neither... And will lose both."
@@notmee2388 I was oversimplifying due to the movie having both company logos in it
Interesting fact, Vee is played by Hugo Weaving, who also plays Agent Smith in the Matrix films.
Just happened to open YT seconds after this upload. I've loved your reactions for a while! Keep it up!

We had minor forms of tyranny for the last decade or so under increasingly radicalized liberals. The pendulum swings both ways, and now times are changing. Their mocking, their years or degenerate undermining of society and blatant lack of empathy towards the poor and the oppressed is coming back full circle. Those who were wealthy and in charge are soon to be very.... uncomfortable.
Arguably one of the most prophetic movies from the last 3 decades.
You should review Accepted. It’s about a recent high school graduate getting rejected from every college he applied, so in order to please his family, he and his friends make a fake College out of a former mental hospital that went out of control with hundreds of people enrolling as students. Currently, no one has reviewed it and you’d be the first one!
Such a good movie! Battle Royal!!
I am so glad that more people are appreciating this now. It's been a favourite of mine since it came out and the graphic novel is a masterpiece too.
2 things to note:
1) Stephen Fry (the actor who plays Gordon Deitrich) is known to be gay in real life.
Remarkable how far we have come in my lifetime.
no one gave a crap if you were gay in 2005.

RIP Adrian Biddle
V was played by the amazingly talented Hugo Weaving (Lord of the Rings, The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, and The Matrix, just to name a few).
Also, the mask V wears is that of Guy Fawkes - a soldier and member of a group involved in the failed Gunpowder Plot of 1605 to blow up Westminster Palace. A perfect fit for this movie’s plot!
