Greetings Claire and Sam! Your video reminds me that a visit to beautiful Austria remains on my bucket list! Although your journey through Austria was not initially planned, I am fascinated by the routing of your journey from Lithuania to Austria. In June 1944 Nazi Germany was retreating from the Baltics and Poland, while the Soviet Russian front was re-advancing. In short, my father and uncle escaped from Lithuania, leaving parents and siblings behind, traveling to northern Austria and eventually finding refuge in a DP (displaced persons) camp in Southern Germany - in the American Zone. Ultimately, they came to and settled in Canada in 1947. While I am unsure of some specifics, I believe that there were certain parallels in your respective 'pathways' from Lithuania to Austria. It would be fantastic to re-trace the 'footsteps' of my father and uncle from Lithuania to Austria - some 76+ years later. Your sequence of travel / tour videos through Central Europe inspires me to do as my father did, decades earlier. Thank You!!!
Very nice guys, Austria wonderful ! next best thing to being there watching your videos ,just hoping ill get to go there again one day soooon ! especially as my other half lives there, my favourite place to be, love it . just subbed :-)
Steve! It really is a stunning place isn't it - you're so lucky to have access to such an amazing country as often as you do - thanks for the sub! Enjoy our other vids!
Stift in this context means pencil, surely. No idea about the other word ;-) Seriously, though, Austria is my favourite Alpine country. My parents had friends in the Murzzuschlag area in Steiermark (Styria) which is around 30 miles due south of Melk, and I've visited the area several times over the years. Brilliant place with warm, friendly people. Graz is a delightful regional capital. Really off the beaten track for UK people, but many Anglophiles speaking good English in Styria. I always got the feeling I was visiting a "real" place, as opposed to say Interlaken which is definitely geared for tourists despite the scenic grandeur. They didn't rate the Viennese very highly - typical capital/provincial thing ;-)
Thanks Hywel! (Stift just made us laugh in a very British, very immature way!) We actually did get to go to Graz (we have some friends there) and it was brilliant! We really did fall in love with Austria, we will definitely be back to make more of it!
@@nextstopevwhere Good news that you intend to return to Austria :-) Kaernten (Carninthia) in the south has wonderful lakes and mountains (and campsites!). It can get busy in the school summer holidays with Austrian and Bavarian holidaymakers; June or September would be a great time to visit. Vienna is my favourite capital city in Westen Europe, and the Habsburgs palace at Schoenbrunn is spectacular, and as impressive as Versailles in its own way.
