      @Patrick Cossack Not really. At least about the Empire=USA part. While the Empire is mostly just a representation of fascism, especially Nazi Germany, the Emperor was modelled by Lucas on Nixon and the final defeat of the Empire happened on a forest planet by a group of comparatively primitive guerilla fighters is a pretty obvious Vietnam allegory. That does not mean that the Rebels in general represent the Vietcong or communist in general, in fact the circumstance that one of the leaders is royalty, albeit adopted, is pretty much runs counter to most communist and Marxist theories. I'd argue that the Rebel Alliance is supposed to represent everyone and is more a stand-in for liberalism than communism or socialism, hell in some regards they are more representative of conservatism than progressivism.

    • @WizzRacing
      @WizzRacing 4 года назад +2

      @@GermanLeftist Horse shit... Lucas was a student of Regions and Greek History... He used them as a premise for his Good vs Evil story line...He even tells you that. As he used a mix of the Hebrew Bible. Greek\Roman history... As the Empire was modeled after the Roman Empire. The Rebels were the Christians. That believed in a high power. That were being hunted down for their faith... Hell even Darth Vader tells you that. Give into the Dark Side. The Dark Side was Lucifer and Satanic realm...

      @Kunth All he did was prove the Airman's assumption that he was a Soviet spy, which was likely why he asked the question in the first place.
      You should probably also take into account the fact that these guys found them in a secret military base they shouldn't have had access to, at the height of the Cold War.

    • @spartanpawn007
      @spartanpawn007 4 года назад +20

      @Kunth You can prove someone's assumption, even if it's wrong.
      Again, perhaps you should remember that they didn't just pick these guys up off the street, but discovered them in a secret military base. The knowing Russian bit leads to a much bigger assumption under those circumstances.
      Also, paranoia is an actual thing, you know.

My grandfather still barely knows who Kirk was despite its popularity and he had a television then. My mother’s parents disallowed her and her sister to even watch Lost in Space much less Star Trek. And I know many people, both older and younger who I’ve mentioned a simple Star Trek or Star Wars character or phrase to and they stand there saying that they have no clue who or what I’m talking about.

    It strikes me watching this again now: there was a Stargate program back in the 40s, though it was scrapped. SG1 could have honestly claimed to be part of a top secret government program that the people in 1969's Cheyenne Mountain didn't have clearance to know about, and asked to be put in contact with someone still alive who was involved with that program, and worked with them to get back to the future under the same veil of secrecy that the entire Stargate program was kept under, and then a second super-extra-top-secret classification within even the SG files to avoid disturbing the future that they knew.

Before it was apparent that the Gate was a travel device it would have been dismissed as a intricate round monument that had to be stored somewhere just like it was in the episode "Bad Guys" (Season 10, Episode 16) where the SG-1 team were mistaken for terrorists when they appeared in a museum.

    Seeing those Security Police wearing the old tan 1505 uniforms....brings back memories. 1505s and the old cotton fatigues were so comfortable. Who cares if you had to iron them frequently? I did see those SPs being out of uniform in the interrogation room: fatigue sleeves were not rolled up in those days and when they were allowed they had to be rolled up above the elbow. ---old USAF NCO.

    O'Neill should've gone in reverse to determine which decade he was in. Luke Skywalker was 1977 while Kirk was 1966. If Kirk is a miss then so is Skywalker. Assuming this dude never saw Star Trek or Star Wars, it's even possible they were in the 1980s. They ended up in 1969 so Kirk was a good shot but ST:TOS was just not popular then so it's very possible he's not in 1970s or 1980s given Kirk and Skywalker are both a negative. So he would've known he's in mid 1960s or late 1960s based on the clothes, uniform, weapons, cigarettes etc.

    Reading comments makes me sad. Seems like a lot of people here ignore what was going on in the world and USA during 1969' . Woodstock and VietNam war were not the only events. That was the summer of the 1est man on the moon. There were a lot of scyfy shows. Star Trek, Journey to the bottom of the sea, Time Tunnel, Dr. WHO?, etc, etc. The way people here describe TV at that time is incorrect. I was 13y/o , and those were my favorite shows. TV was great in those times. You had music shows, drama, commedy, realscientific shows and science fiction.. Not like now. Good shows are scarce at present, not then.
