      @@Manuel_Fal_Conde Sure - if some of the planets in that star system aren't within range of the initial explosion, then the the star system as a whole did not explode. If the sun was to explode due to alien weaponry, but the planets remained physically intact (and not thrown outward at great velocity), that would be blowing up a star. However, if the initial explosion was so massive that it destroyed the planets also, that would be blowing up a star system. An over-generalization, of course, but I think it conveys the basic idea.

    • @jakubsarnowski9050
      @jakubsarnowski9050 4 года назад +3

      @@genericusername7959 just like he said - it's just a matter of the initial blast radius. think of it as a solar wind and a massive pulse like in Knowing movie - the end result would be the same, causing destruction of all life on the habitable planets in the system.

      Oh? And what is the correct number?

    • @classifiedveteran9879
      @classifiedveteran9879 4 года назад +14

      @@Anklejbiter So, a single light year is 5.88 trillion miles. And it's 4.37 light-years to the nearest star other than our sun, alpha cenTAU'RI. So if you traveled several billion miles from earth, you wouldn't even catch up to the our farthest probe, Voyager, which is 13.2 billion miles as of February 2018. You'd in fact probably still be in our solar system.
      If Teal'c said "several trillion miles" he'd not reach alpha cenTAU'RI which is still 25.67 trillion miles away.
      Interestingly enough, if Teal'c said "several quadrillion miles" instead, his answer would then be believable. (Quadrillions comes after trillions.)
      But if he were to say the next "illions" as "several quintillion miles" He'd then overshoot the diameter of the milky way galaxy by a significant margin, but barely even approach next nearest galaxy which is: nine hundred forty-five sextillion one hundred quintillion miles away.
      ~~~~~
      On the Milky way's diameter:
      It's 6.2137 × 10^17 miles according to Wikipedia.
      Move the decimal point to the right 17 digits to get this:
      621,370,000,000,000,000 miles
      If spoken out loud:
      Six hundred twenty-one quadrillion three hundred seventy trillion miles
      ~~~~~
      Despite this astronomical error, it can still work with Stargate fandom, because Teal'c is just as human- wait... I mean Jaffa, as anyone else. He's not Carter with a PHD and can be easily mistaken. Or perhaps he was just telling a fib to O'Neill since he didn't want to confuse/frustrate him by saying words for numbers that most people don't understand.

      I'd also probably get fired in the first week for stealing one of the bases golf carts to drive around off world to do missions. "Walking? Are you kidding me?"
