Jonathan J. "Jack" O'Neill, Colonel (later promoted), USAF, is a fictional character in military science fiction franchise Stargate, and primarily one of the main characters of the television series Stargate SG-1.
He is most known as portrayed by actor Richard Dean Anderson, who played O'Neill in all the Stargate media since 1997, when he took over the role from actor Kurt Russell, who portrayed the character in the original Stargate film in 1994. O'Neill and Daniel Jackson are the only two characters to appear in both the original film and all three Stargate television series.
In his first appearance in the 1994 film as Jack O'Neil, the character leads the first team to go through the Stargate on a reconnaissance mission. He subsequently becomes the main character of the television series Stargate SG-1 created in 1997 as a sequel to the movie. In the first seven seasons of the show, O'Neill is the leader of the team SG-1, a part of Stargate Program whose goal is to explore the galaxy and defend against alien threats.
The character became less prominent in the eighth season in which he is promoted Commanding Officer of Stargate Command, therefore greatly reducing the character's time spent exploring via the Stargate. Anderson chose to reduce his character's status to spend more time with his family, eventually leaving the show at the start of its ninth season and only appearing four times until the end of the series in its tenth and final season. The character's absence from the show was explained by his promotion to the position of head of the Department of Homeworld Security.

Too bad they couldn't have had it go on for another decade with Mitchel as the head of SG-1, the same for Stargate Atlantis, it should have lasted for 10 years instead of 5 and Universe the same.

That is how it ended for me. Much as I loved the show I knew I wasn't going to get a better ending, so I just stopped there.
True story here. My work keeps me on the road so I had never been able to invest a lot of time on a TV series. I knew of Stargate but never watched the show which is surprising since I am a big SF fan. One night I was channel surfing and ran across the episode "Windows of Opportunity". I thought it was the funniest thing I had ever seen and had to give this a shot. I made the decision right then and there to watch the the Stargate franchise. The next day I ordered the complete 10 season DVD edition and the 5 seasons of Atlantis from ebay. It was money well spent as I have become the biggest SG fan.

@@kendallrivers1119 I actually didn't like MacGyver which means I wasn't a fan of RDA either. It took about 4 or 5 seasons before I saw my first episode of SG1. Now I'm a die hard fan. I own every episode of SG1, Atlantis and even Universe.

Great video - and explanation - thank you. Many of the funny scenes of Jack O'Neill. Especially funny to me was the scene you chose - when Sam is wrestling Felger's girlfriend and Jack and Felger are watching. Felger tries to tell the girls to stop wrestling and Jack tells Felger to be quiet and let the girls do their thing.....LOL. What a look he gave Felger. That's just one of the good scenes you included. Basically, RDA as Jack O'Neill kept the humor in the action packed series. When he left after Season 8, the series went down hill fast. HE WAS THE REASON STARGATE SG1 WAS SO SUCCESSFUL. He had to leave to take care of his daughter and to be with her as she was growing up. But, it was sad when he left the show. It could have gone on for many more good years! RDA forever!
I totally agree! Wasnt the same without him, his wit was what gave the show that 'sparkle'. There were so many more scenes, but going through every box set I have looking for 'Jack Jokes' is no easy task!! Thank you so much for watching!
Its quite unfortunate really. I thought Ben Browder's Cam Mitchell was actually quite good. Just couldn't fill that void and it is a shame because I personally think the Ori were a far more interesting villan than the G'huld (forgot how to spell it) as unlike the G'huld the Ori act as a fantastic foil for the ideas and ethics that Daniel Jackson swears by. Providing some awesome philosophical debate between the sg team and the priors while been astronomically more powerful and frightening than the G'huld. Like the G'huld were somewhat still human in a sense. They could be bargained with and wanted material objects. But the Ori are this bodiless, lacking all humanity, entity that act more as if they are an idea than an actual villan. And you can't kill and idea. Loved it

@@supermankalel6698 If I understand the joke right, the Jaffa are pointing out the most striking feature of the helmets. Serpent guard's helmets have red eyes, horus guard's have gold beaks and Setesh's have a snout or nose that bends down at the end or drips.

I don´t know... I really enjoyed the character of Vala. She became one of my favourites. How she managed to be as relentlessly optimistic as Daniel, but still in a way utterly opposite to his, never failed to amaze me. But yes, I missed Jack too.

Yep. Jack O’Neil always was serious during missions and could get frustrated easily. But he was also in my opinion sarcastic, comedic and somewhat laidback as much as I can describe him.

One of my favorite Jack lines: When Samantha is setting up the 2nd Stargate to make a star implode, O'Neill looks at her and asks, "Nervous?" Sam - "Well, I've never blown up a star before, sir." Jack - "They say the first one's the hardest."
My sister and I agreed after seeing the "Stargate" movie that it'd make a fantastic TV show. Years later, by the time it was in its fourth season, we discovered it was, indeed, a TV show. Sis exclaimed, "Guess who's playing Colonel O'Neill? RICHARD DEAN ANDERSON!!" We both thought he was a fine choice, to take over the role from Kurt Russell.

It's not the amount of the horses that win the battle. God told Israel to reduce in size. They scratched their heads in confusion, but obeyed God. This is how it works when you serve God. I am a Jewish Reverend. I know first hand. My love for Jehovah God was always there, I did pick him. But the scriptures say he chose me first y knew me in my mother's womb. See the book of Jeremiah chapter one. I am grateful.

There's an awesome Stargate podcast currently going called 'get into gate' which is awesome. It's three fans introducing a new comer to an episode every week. I highly recommend it on SoundCloud. I think there on season 8 of SG1 at the moment and just started Atlantis too.
