If you read the book this is based on or have been reading Michael Ausiello’s tv blog/website since the early 2000’s, you’ll know Jim Parsons is perfectly cast. Michael had always looked older than he actually is.
I agree with this review 100%. This one should have gotten as much promotion as Bros, and I consider it better as well. It was very cute. The annoyances of them not looking the appropriate ages were quickly overcome by great performances from Jim and Ben.
I might be blind, but I don't think Parsons was miscast. He's an attractive fellow that looks 10 years younger then his age. I believed him as Michael. Also, this is the third role he's had with the name Michael.
I’m so aggravated right this minute because I’m so into this review & it’s interrupted by an effin ad I’ve seen 1,000 times this past week alone, about how all my friends & family are going to see if I voted or not -so I better vote!!! My friends & fam aren’t weird & crazy like that…. STOP, plz! 🛑🖤
"You know Nick beats me...but it's okay." OH NOOOO....lololol you two are everything. 🤣🤣 Honestly tho, if you two ever decide to offer relationship advice, I know we are all here for it. 🤗🤗 Happy Holidays!!
Woke up this morning feeling emotionally drained, and then my recommendations popped up with you two giving this review. By the end I was feeling replenished. 🙏❤️ I just love you guys. 🥰
Gentlemen, your hospital death bed side piece convo towards the end there made my day. 🤣🤣🤣 Again boba's on me. Thanks for your review, have a wonderful evening!
Watched this movie months ago and is still not over the feelings it gave me. Grey’s didn’t make me sob like that! Thanks for the review, keep spoiling every damn thing ❤
I sobbed through the ending. I did like how you mentioned the terms of endearment movie connection, because I had not made that connection, and it totally makes sense. Highly recommend having a box of tissues available.
Adding it to my watch list. It sounds really heartfelt. Everybody who's been in a relationship past the ten year mark knows how complex it can be. Not to mention when you go through health issues as you grow older together.
"heartfelt" is code for all dramatic movies featuring gay males that end in a hospital room or the morgue before the final credits. That's about 90% of them.
@@FriendofDorothy I meant no disrespect. Just speaking as a person with ongoing health issues myself who has a partner that's been there with me for the last 15 years. So I was interested in seeing this film.
Ya’ll are the best!! LOVE this one, have to go watch it. LOVE that you brought up the infamous Mike Tyson & Robin Givens interview! So funny, you two! Thanks so much!♥️
You guys watch so many movies and I used to do that just for fun and to review them on my letterboxd. This year I haven’t been motivated to do so but after watching your reviews (I binge watched most of them these past 2 days) I honestly just want to watch every movie I can again. And maybe even make my own movie review videos. I have a few reviewers I go to when I want to make sure a movie’s good and now you’re in the circle! Can’t wait for your upcoming December reviews and for next year
Just wanted to say thank u again for being u! Ur both so refreshing, and I get so much joy from ur content (I'm going thru a super tough time rn and watching y'all's videos gets me thru and helps me more than y'all can ever know!) Much love and support ❤️🩹💪✌️
I knew I wanted to see this when I saw the trailer, now I really need to see it. I thought your review of Bros was well thought out, honest and hilarious as always!
I liked your review of Spolier Alert. I agree with everything you said. It is a good and touching movie. And, I can only think of positive things about it. I also agree that I was worried that Jim Parsons may not have been a good choice for the lead role in the movie. However, as I watched it, he was actually a perfect choice. Very well done. My brother actually wanted to see the movie because Jim Parsons was in it, because he thought it was going to be a comedy. And, its a good thing that I explained to him that it is not a comedy before he watched it. Yet, he was still mad because it wasnt funny like the Big Bang Series. But, he still liked the movie. For me it reminded me a lot of the Long time companion movie. Where a group of friends were watching their friends and lovers die from AIDs. It was very well done.
I knew a straight couple who basically went thru this exact thing and got married at the end but it’s because they’d had twins a year before. This movie made me emotional.
I absolutely loved Jim Parsons in this role, and I really enjoyed this flick! One of the more authentic, believable, and touching love story movies Ive seen in a long time. When I saw the trailer I thought the same as this reviewer ( that Jim Parsons seemed wrong or off in the role somehow ) but after watching the film I really loved him in this! Totally different character than Sheldon Cooper, and sometimes it can be hard or even career ruining when an actor plays a recurring t.v. character for SO many years and then cant be believed as any other character. I think this movie proved to the world he can play a diverse set of roles/characters. I also loved Sally Field in this movie. If you enjoy tearjerkers and romantic love story movies, I highly recommend this film!
Well, you do know that Jim Parsons and his husbands were the ones who wanted to bring the memoir to the big screen, which is why they got the rights from Ausiello and produced the feature. As for casting Ben to fall for Jim, Jim has always been geeky-looking, which is what makes him a good choice for the role of Michael, as Christopher's type is the geek/dweeb.
Thanks for this review. Even though I don't really like Jim Parsons, I will watch this movie thanks to your critique. Question Have you reviewed Catherine Denueve, David Bowie & Susan Sarandon's The Hunger ?
90% of all movies featuring gay male characters have a bar or disco scene. It fits right into the narrative most homophobes, evangelicals, and people "on the fence" have about gay men: all we do is party and have sex ! They call it a "life style", which is BS as there is no such thing as a "gay lifestyle".
I haven't watched this yet but I just had to say seeing y'all's expression in the thumbnail is the reason I still have hope for finding my partner in crime
As a person who has completed her #DetoxfromBOX dye. All I see is the hair dye, it's baddddd single tone. I'm down to watch the movie it looks good but that dye job pulls me out of the moment.
I thought this was a comedy when before I watched it I never cried so much in a movie. Ben Aldridge is should I say, perfect casting. Considering hge is British, no one would have guessed. So though I agree the gay scene meeting in the bar are all about superficial, how could Kit have been attracted to someone like Jim's character However once in a very very blue moon much like the way this non fiction story turned out, sometimes for whatever reasons, a very attractive guy may just not pick a mirror image of himself. (rare in a gay context and it happens more rarely but still happens) An excellent movie highly recomended. The death scene is one of the most touching 15 minutes in any movie I have ever seen. When Jim ask Kit how do you feel leaving the show being such a popular character, and the reply was I will miss it - very clever reply and what Jim asked what his character was supposed to do after 13 years? Again very clever reply 'You'll be fine.' and the reponse by Jim character just brings tears, it''ll be incredebly difficult but I'll be fine. And the moment Jim came to terms of letting go, it was this same scene where Kit's character was rushed by the production crew and Jim said, 'you can go now' and that splits into the death scene where the pulse stop when Jim say 'you can go now' this is incredibly incredibly emotional.
You gentlemen are very well adjusted so the couples therapy must have worked or just sharpened the existing relationship…now I’m hearing about sidepieces..a great term. None of my business.
Baby, I live for your movie reviews! Off the bat, when I saw the trailer, I said oh no Mr. Parsons, I’m not buying the romance you selling, and hearing your comments about this dubious casting choice, makes me feel like less of an asshole! 😂
Down for a love story, recollection couch drama, thanks Boos..but how old is Jim "Sheldon" now 🧐🤔??? Not sure. The thing that distracted me is Parson's super super super smooth forehead....and ultra sharp hairline..then the baseball cap STOP. (Unrelated question:Did you watch the latest iteration of Interview With A Vampire, the series from AME, I think)
I would rather the couples have different appearances than sit through another May, December relationship. I'm tired of those movies, I feel like after your 20s you do gravitate towards other aspects of attraction.
Oh, my damn... I clicked on this because of the movie title and the pic behind you. I wondered "Who is that looking like a screaming turtle?" and it's Jim Parsons🤣 If a side piece shows up to the death bed, I agree that it would be hard to not choose violence. However, for this movie, that poor man is dying and had been in a relationship with a screaming turtle so let him have one more visitor😭Otherwise, this does sound like a sweet, loving movie and thank you for your thoughts!!
STOP with the usual gay BS about looks/age etc. That's exactly why so many end up alone. If you open up to actually bond with someone that's a good person the rest doesn't really matter. Guess who was there on his deathbed? Wasn't the hot gym boys
A movie about a gay male couple where one has to die at the end.... how fresh! how original! Must we always either commit suicide or die of some terminal disease in EVERY dramatic film centered on gay male characters? Sorry, but this has been a tired Hollywood cinematic tradition for the past 80 years at least! I'm still waiting for movies that depict us as people, not as victims and not as characters soaked in stereotypes. I recently saw "The Whale". That one had a great lead performance (easy Oscar bait) but the script outdid the long lineage of other depressing films in which we gay men are portrayed as "victims" as it featured not one, but two suicides of gay men. I wished for an anti-depressant after leaving the theater. The narrative of gay men as victims MUST GO. It's been done.... literally to death.... Interesting how Hollywood is always presented as being so "woke" but I think they are asleep when it comes to how they consistently depict gay men as clichés, stereotypes, and victims. Everyone acted like "Brokeback Mountain" was some ground-breaking film but it too stuck to the typical template of gay-man-as-victim.
