I had a 79 Vette, and those door latches were a pain in the butt! I finally ordered some clips for mine that helped keep my blood pressure from getting dangerously high every time I opened the doors. Happy motoring! Seeya!
I always enjoy your videos because of the topic... whether I learn something new or not. That, and I admire your shop... as I can only wish for something that nice, well-lit and roomy. I work within the confines of a standard two car garage... that houses two hobby cars... so space is at a premium. I have a ’72 coupe that presents well and looks stock... but I’ve taken some liberties mechanically to make it more fun to drive. So... I have an appreciation for people that aren’t squeamish about making it their own. That said... I respect your desire to change the color... and I’m not criticizing your decision... but I’m still left wondering “Why?” That’s such a gorgeous, shiny red Vette. It pops. Keep up the good work!
I feel very fortunate to have my shop. As far as the color of my car, it is a good driver paint job but not as good as I would like. Out of the 8 Corvettes I have owned, 3 of them were red (including this 71). Since I would like to repaint it someday and since I really like Elkhart green I will probably go with the green. That being said I'm not sure when I will get around to painting the car so until then I will drive and enjoy the car being red. The great thing about owning any car is you can make it the way you want it. That is why there are so many car shows. If all cars looked the same the world would be a boring place. Enjoy your cars and make them the way you want. Thanks for watching and for commenting on my video. I greatly appreciate it.
My original 70 has the same exact gap on the passenger side door. Rest of the door gapping is perfect so thinking maybe some front end sagging. However driver side door gaps are perfect all around.
If you look at any C3 that has not been restored (and had the gaps repaired), they all have the same gap on the passenger side. I think it was a flaw from the factory and not a result of age.
Looks to me like the entire door could move up and forward. In fitting my 71 C3 doors, I noticed that they could use a little more vertical space inside the door mounting holes. I’m planning to grind the elongated holes a little to get the door higher. Looks much better than it did! (Stick with Red!) 😅
When I take the car apart to paint it I will have to elongate the holes in my hinges too. Everyone keeps telling me to keep the red. I do love a red corvette no matter what year it is but green is my favorite color and Elkhart green is my top favorite color of green. I have had several red Corvettes but never an Elkhart green Vette so I will probably go with the green. It will be a while before that happens though so in the mean time I will keep it red. Right now I'm having problems with my engine. I think I am going to have to replace the heads. Your car is looking great. Keep up the good work.
Will do, we just got back from Iowa Friday. Went to see Randy, stayed a week. Watched your video you made while we were gone as soon as I got home. Left a comment!!
I purchased the steering wheel from ebay in February of 2022. I paid $119.99 for it but I'm sure it cost more today. Go to ebay motors and type in black leather steering wheel for a C3 Corvette. It should come up. The steering wheel is padded and very comfortable. It is an inch smaller than the original. It looks good but I just switched back because I like the looks of the original better. I may put it back on at some point especially if I am driving a long distance in the car. Thanks for the comment and for watching my video. Good luck with your 72.

Great advice, my 71 is having troubles opening doors, hopefully fix soon .will try tips.
Thanks. Good luck with your 71.
Great information... I never knew that knob was adjustable for the door. Luckily my 71 Vette is good to go on door gaps.
Thanks for the comment. The way these cars are built they have to make everything adjustable. LOL Thanks for watching

Tell Randy I said Hi.
Nice looking steering wheel. Is it padded? Where did you get it? Is it smaller then the original? Please let me know. I’m restoring a 72
