  • We did it. We tried the stinky fish for the first time. Our kind neighbors invited us to their home to show us how it’s done. But just seeing all these videos on youtube, we were quite nervous, to have it in someone else’s home. I guess that’s the only option, when it’s -27 degrees… :)

    We have watched all of your videos (on Somewhere and Ventures) at least once. This is the best vid you've ever done; if it doesn't go viral and get millions of views there's something major wrong with algorithms! A bunch of us watched it together and everybody was laughing like hyenas. It is truly HILARIOUS! And you're ever improving editing skills made it that way. 🤣😂

    Now that was fun!
    It seems more psychological than anything. Esp after watching yt about it. But then again, I've never eaten it.

    • @TheBergmark
      @TheBergmark 5 месяцев назад +3

      You are right it must be psychological, they trigger each other to feel disgusted and exaggerate the smell.

      Yeah I think it´s all about the mind. Being around with people who love it compared to people who are super sensitive to smells, definitely helped! :)

    That was funny. You did well handling that stink! Some people have very strong gag reflexes. So it’s not possible for them to get past the smell.

      I do feel kinda lucky not having that gag reflex at all... Kevin was a bigger trooper in that regard! :)

    Nice to see foreigners doing it the right way for once! I've had it twice in my life and I have to say the taste kind of disappointed me, it doesn't taste nearly as much as it smells. But last time I had it was decades ago, I should probably try it again soon, while it's still available, that herring is going extinct because our government refuses to do anything to stop the overfishing,😟

    • @lisasomewhere88
      @lisasomewhere88  5 месяцев назад +2

      Yeah, after you conquer the smell it doesn't get much worse. I think it's time for you to give it another try! Heard about the shortage, too. Would be so sad to see such an important part of Swedish culture/history slowly go extinct...

    Glad you ate it with people that know how to eat it even if they do it a bit different from where i live. My Brazilian wife and our latino friends all love it and so do our kids! That negative hype on RUclips is just stupid and painful to watch!

    The swedish population has historically been fed with herring and porrage. The herring was traditionally salted, but salt was expensive so the step to reduce the salt is short! On the Faroe islands they traditionally dry lamb meat without salt (Skerpikjøt), exposing them selft for the risk of borulism, just beacuse salt traditionally was expensive and could not be produce on the Faroee islands

      Mmh.. combining herring with porridge... why is that not a thing? :D So interesting how many different preserving techniques people had to develop back in the days.

About the shark so is it living on such dept so it gather urinacid in the boddy and so strong that it is daedly for most animals. I know there is some people that collects a special seafaul in skinn bags with all ingrediens still there and they put it in deep holes and fill over with dirt and it forments there in sevral month. Hi, i think this is not fun at all and it is offending to a very old Swedich formenting method . I go mad seeing clowns playing with a good food because they dont know how to eat it or prepare it, often younger Sweds showing of. You file it and dont eat this fish with guts and finns and all it is rediculess see this.its an old method to preserv the fish in a time there was no refridgerators and modern tecnik , that was a importend food back then, and there are many more disgusting foods and ways to prepair it than Surströmming. If you dont like it let it bee and go away- You should know that there is a dish from Island that is formented Shark that is so toxic that if you dont prepair it right you die. And there is very few that eat it. It stinks so bad that its done far away out in the country and its only a couple of guys that could forment it and even eat it. There is ather similar products around the world that is worse than our Surströmming so stop playing with it and pretend vometing and such crap.
    Yes it smells but if you dont want it go away there is sure some fatty juicy unhaelthy ribs or staeks to eat .

      I agree that wasting a traditional food with so much history for the sake of views can be offending. Which is why we reached out to people who like it and who could show how it's done correctly. But yes, there's more and probably much worse tasting and probably smelling food out there... I heard of the shark, just didn't know it is so dangerous. Interesting!
