I thought I would add my experience here. I had the same codes come up with slow cam adjustment after a cold start. Temperature outside was less than 20 degrees F. It was also sitting for a few days. I just had the car shipped to me from California and realized it probably has the 5W40 oil in it. From past experiences in the North East I have always switched my oil for winter to a 0W40. That way it’s not as thick and moves around the engine parts quicker. So my thoughts here are that the cam adjustment solenoids did not have enough oil in them at start and it took a few seconds too long to get oil in the solenoids which tripped the EPC light and hence a “slow” adjustment. After I cleared the codes I let the car warm up to operating temp before driving and all is fine. Until my next oil change, if it’s freezing temps, I will try to start it daily to keep oil throughout the engine as much as possible. Also, if I do plan to drive it during a cold day, I will make sure the car is at normal operating temp first.
Yeah same here when its cold outside with a cold start or if it sits for few days comes on but also only when it's cold , summer never comes on. I had both 0w30 and now 5w40 same thing its probably camshaft sensors or valve timing solenoid , thank you by the way for info!
The RS models don’t have issues with the timing chain. The s models with the V8 do have issues with the chains . The reason is the timing chain guides, on the RS modes are made of metal while on the other are plastic and they break al the time. Regarding the tune it did work on mine that had the EPC light coming on once in a while. After the tune it hasn’t come on not once.
replace all 4 of your Variable valve timing solenoids trust me. I had this same problem, did a full timing chain service and the issue still persisted. (I also replaced my cam position sensors w/ no change). I finally just replaced all 4 of the variable valve timing solenoids and the problem went away immediately (you could also tell the engine was running much smooth/revvier). They were around $530 from ECS tuning. I did it myself in a few hours. ('13 RS5 ~86k miles)
Nice I think that should be it there is one more guy in comments with RS5 had a same problem and he told me the same valve timing solenoids fixed his problem. Yours is same as mine 2013- 93k miles , ECS tuning they have everything for Audi they are pretty good. Thank you bro I appreciate the information!
Peter, I would like to have sone more info on the fix you discovered. I have the same problem with my 2011 RS5. I can only locate 2 of the solenoids. Where are they all located? And is it just plug and play or do yiu need to clear some codes after installing. Aprecciate the answer.
I had the same issue when engine was cold. Replaced both exhaust solenoids (bank 1 and 2). This fixed the issue, got through last winter with no issues.
@@andygunn8799 Awesome bro I see everyone is saying the same thing valve timing solenoids or exhaust solenoids. How much was the part and is it somewhere you can reach or you need to remove some stuff to get to it?
Dude , change your exhaust variable valve timing solenoid on driver's side. I have a 2010 4.2l s5 and same exact code would intermittently pop up only when cold first few minutes first start up of the day. I get better gas mileage as well now and seems to run smoother. I will eventually just replace them all. Also i was having the EPC light come on a year or two ago with no codes. I noticed a minute sign of fuel leaking from one of the high pressure fuel pumps so I replaced it and the EPC light hasn't come on since. PS... nice car... These cars are awesome when everything is running perfect but they are very finicky. I am planning on an RS5 soon but haven't decided on the B8 or B9 . The B8 dual clutch problems scare me but so does a hot vee turbo engine
Yes sir I will change variable valve timing solenoid few people told me the same so you are right about that I don't have any problems runs perfect but needs to be change for sure ill change them and make a video. Well this is 8.5 I think looks little better then B8 because of the newer headlights and also they fixed a timing chain problem and B9 is V6TT no sound like this and dual clutch is one of the best trans I think they can kick a little hahah but never heard anyone ever had any big problems with it but I might be wrong and I used to have S5 4.2l like yours and I had a same problem high pressure fuel pump was bad had EPC and shaky engine and a LOT of other problem so had to go and got this one honestly I NEVER had any problems on this car in 2 years since I bought it just that light and still runs totally fine anyway thank you for info bro I really appreciate that!
Hey bro I'm gonna change that solenoids tomorrow so tell me mine is on Bank 2 Bank 2 is on the right side when you stand in front of the engine like driver side right? And I see one sticking out close to the windshield but where is other one I don't see it?
If you get P002100, P001100, P000A00, P001700 codes be sure to check your timing chain. I got a bit of rough start and EPC light, then restarted car no problems or EPC light. Well timing was off and eventually I had to replace entire motor. Faulty injector can also cause EPC light, if the seals are in bad shape. My buddy had them checked and seals replaced and his EPC problems went away.
I only got P000D code and only EPC light I don't have an engine light on just EPC and only on the winter when is 40F and under so I'm guessing its a sensor or one guy told me he had a same problem and it was a valve timing actuator so will see now I don't have nothing on got to wait till the winter its not showing anything now. I think if it was a chain it would come up even when its hot and it works 100% smooth no problems at all starts normal no rough idle or shaking nothing really so I have no idea by the way thank you for information's and I hope its something simple.
Hello. My vehicle has almost the same error codes as yours and the vehicle has only 25,000 km. Additionally, metal shavings appeared in the filter. I'm wondering, has something like this happened to you too?
@@yunusatabay Sorry to hear - sounds like really bad luck. Personally I would immediately tow the car to mechanic and have it checked properly. I have heard that metal shavings cannot be cleaned from RS5 engine, so it does sound to me like possible engine replacement. I hope you get it sorted out.
EPC light it’s because of your intake manifold pressure. I believe there’s two code it’s either gonna say intake runner stuck closed or stuck open not the chain.

It felt strong, and all of a sudden it was over. I hope nobody has to encounter this issue. On the plus side, it gave me an opportunity to straighten pipe the headers while the engine is out. While the engine was out they also found that one of the engine mounts had split and the fluid had leaked out. I didn't get a code for this at all.
