- The rear end of the frame looks in a much worse condition than the front. But I am not giving up. I decided to clean it up and see how far the rot has spread. Maybe it is not as bad as it looks like...!? Well we can find out. Meanwhile I started repairing the rear crossmember.
I have no doubt you can save it. I really enjoy watching and learning as you work through the challenges to save another rusty beauty. It would not be as interesting if you bought a replacement frame. Great work Elin.
I did same repairs to my 95, years ago, never any issues! Still driving it everyday!
When I rebuilt my Jaguar XK120 DHC many years ago people told me I was crazy, it was a wreck and I should start with something better. I finished the project and enjoyed it and learned a lot doing it. That is going to be the strongest Jeep frame that ever existed! Cheers und alles Gute aus Deutschland!
The Taboo kits are nicely made. It's good that they extend further than the typical rear frame rust repair.
Great job !!
Definitely better looking after scaling, regardless I have always had the faith in your capabilities. Great Job.
Elin, you should rename your channel “Rusty resurrection”! Only a miracle worker would contemplate rescuing the severely (terminal?) rusted projects. As always - an inspiration. From the UK Old Man.
Great Job Elin, it doesn’t look as bad as I thought after you needle scaled it!
Good thing it’s not windy in the shop. You’d be losing more of the frame. 😀
Good job so far, very nice preparation work, thinking on your feet as usual. When you concede that frame rail had all the weight of tha axle and the force of the leaf spring pushing the weight of the body away from the axle, that frame rail was still able to hold together.
Hey Elin why don't you replace the frame?
Elin's response: Replace the frame? Let me think about it. Uuuhm (Three seconds later) No.
Who can argue with that? Well, I probably could but it's not my project.
I know that whatever you do will be top notch. I do enjoy watching you work. Me, I guess I'm always looking for the easy way out. By that I mean remove the body from the frame to give me more room to work.
Cheers
Elin ur doin a crackin job, u know what U want and DO what u want
like how you check for solidness with the ball pien hammer, my dentist uses just the same method on his customers
So many awkward nooks and crannies for you to derust... looking forward to seeing what technique you come up with !
I’m going through the same thing in my yj. I got every kit for the yj frame that taboo customs sells😅
Please understand that removing “surface rust” is also removing part of the original wall thickness (strength) of the frame. Tapping with a hammer might show some of the fatal damage but does not certify a solid safe frame/structure. Their reinforcement pieces look fine especially on the corners or cross members. Look closely at the longer main rails where frame twist can put your whole project and passengers at risk. Good luck!
Looking great!
Elin V Rust. Elin for the win !
Hi Elin, all looking great (as expected buddy!) but could you please remove the spare wheel while you are working? I keep expecting you to hit your head on it pretty bad and it’s very distracting! Stay well and prosper buddy 🇬🇧🖖
I wonder if that stuff that you're scaling off is actually old undercoating from the factory. It looks like it to me. The frame underneath looks pretty good.
Gotta admit I was one questioning your sanity at the beginning of this project. I’m not eating crow just yet, but I’m checking out recipes.
It’s always looks worse than it usually is 😎 I had the same omg reaction when I began this exact project on my 94 yj
So you want to fix it up to be your daily driver in the Canadian winter? You do realize that this was exactly what got your Jeep in this condition in the first place?
Greetings from (comparatively) warm and (usually) salt-free Tennessee.
Is driving on water makes frame rusty like this?
I had to do this same thing on my yj - mine became rusty and in bad shape because of snow and rock salt on the roads - and living in a really sandy area
Fits lika glooovaa 👍🚗😊
did you ever consider replacing the frame? (Asking for a friend)
No need to replace the whole thing
Elin 2020 NO
Putting new metal over rust isn't fixing it.
Replace the frame bro.
Junk it
Sure! Oh wait, it’s been in the road for 2 years now after the frame has ben restored. More solid than new. But yeah, I will junk it if you say so
