    After grinding clean the frame surface do you recommend any weld thru primer on the frame and plates? Would you also want to weld the openings in the plates were they over lap in spots on the frame?

      Sorry for the delay, RUclips was holding comments without notifying me we had comments.

    • @TabooCustoms
      @TabooCustoms  4 года назад

      Yes if used correctly. With mig welding they can still cause welding issues with striking an arc and contaminants in the weld if you try to directly weld through the primer. Most of the weld through primer instructions will still require you to remove the primer in the area of the weld.

    Shouldn't u have primed the bare metal on the existing frame and the back side of the new plates before welding? Looks like that's going to rust between the frame and new metal inside out.

    • @TabooCustoms
      @TabooCustoms  Год назад +2

      Yes, we recommend using 3M weld through primer on the inside. This I think was one of our first videos so we missed some tips while getting caught up in trying to do a video. Hard enough doing rust repair, much less try to do a decent video when doing rust repair.

    Cou!d that be done without removing gas tank? My YJ has a tow hitch welded in a way that prohibits the tank from being dropped.

      Sorry, for some reason RUclips had your comment as "held for review" and I didnt realize it. I would not recommend it, it really needs all the pieces to be effective and there is no way to weld the inside piece with the tank still in there....other than maybe removing the tub.

    What are the shackle bushing tribe dimensions? Where did these come from. Great video thanks for sharing.

      We make the shackle tubes ourselves, the bushings come from Daystar. The tube is roughly 2.75" long with an inner diameter of 1.25".

    I only have a 2 in long by 1/2 in tall hole behind the bushing on both sides of the frame on the driver's side, could i cut the the bad frame out and put a section of the kit, in stead of welding over?

    • @TabooCustoms
      @TabooCustoms  3 года назад

      Sorry, for some reason RUclips had your comment as "held for review" and I didnt realize it. You could yes, but what you will probably find is that when you start digging into it there will be much more rust than you realize.

    Is doing this on the TJ easier? Also, are you able to cut the out the rust if wanted? Will it cause any issues?

    • @TabooCustoms
      @TabooCustoms  4 года назад +1

      On the TJ it is easier, you do not have to deal with the shackle mount in the middle of the frame. I also find that removing the TJ gas tank is a little easier than the YJs. We have a kit now released for the TJs in this area. Thanks Dave B www.taboocustoms.com/store/tjrearframerustrepair

    How much did you have to invest to replace this area and what was the budget? - thank you for making this video! im surprised only 3,000 views.

      The price of the kit is below $100 so in $ its not a lot if you have the expertise in welding and the equipment to get it done. If you have to take it to a shop expect to pay another $400 or so for labor.

      Depends somewhat on how easily everything comes apart. If everything comes apart without trouble I could see it done in 4-5 hours.

    Nice is worse how many hours does it take for both sides

    • @TabooCustoms

      I plan 6-8 hours total, taking fuel tank out and repair.

    How much rust is to much?

    • @TabooCustoms
      @TabooCustoms  2 года назад

      Difficult to say, a lot depends on where it is. I normally say that if you have .5-.75" of good material from the top of the frame our kits will usually work.

    I'm in the midst of dealing with bolts that are spinning, bottom line, these auto companies are staffed by idiots with "Engineering" degrees, and there is a reason they will once again need a bailout, they cannot seem to design for servicing with over 100 years of production experience.

      Sorry, for some reason RUclips had your comment as "held for review" and I didnt realize it. I have worked in the OEM and aftermarket auto industry for 20 years (not including Taboo Customs time). Honestly beyond the warranty period I would say from a company perspective they dont really care. They dont want you to keep a vehicle for ever.
