Something really important you forgot for the Messmer Axe: It actually has way stronger charged heavies than all other axes (higher motion values)! That alone makes it a viable alternative to the Warped Axe.
Yeah I missed that. It does make it more useful than a B tier. Edit: I just tested it out and compared to an 60 strength warped axe it only does roughly ~2% more damage. It makes it better but being that Axe heavies do poor stance I don’t value it that much.
The scaling for Cold infused is interesting too, for higher levels. Str/Dex/Int are all basically equal to each other, so if you have enough levels to scale all 3, the damage gets very high.
Imagine if they didn’t give swift spear a unique moveset and put all that effort into making a unique dual weild axe moveset for the deathknight twin axe 😭
I’d rather they just copy and paste the winged knight axe moveset and the drang hammer moveset into this game than continue with whatever abomination of a moveset they created. Not only were the moveset good they also were insanely cool (especially the drang paired hammers).
and then proceeded to give giant weapons a way faster powerstance moveset than them on average. literally feels like powerstanced hammers and axes should switch movesets with greataxes and greathammers
Yeah, highest range, good damage, skill does good damage, stance damage and stunlocks. Also as Youwy said it goes through even if you get stunned (and even if you die)
It's usually good as a combo tool. You CAN use it as just a solo axe but it gets a little boring. Goes great with Shields with the Guard Counter doing good Poise Damage enabling a fat Skill Usage or two. Also requires some INT into it so it can work as an Int build Slapstick.
Interesting to me, because Gino says axes are good. Not the great axes btw. Normal ones he’s talking about. I love youwy but im gonna believe Gino on that one.
@@tylerrorie1856 The way the two players interact with the game is very different, and as a result, what they value in weapons will differ too. Specifically, the tap R2 and charged R2 are very strong. It's why people in the hitless and challenge kills communities agree Iron Ball/Star Fist are by far the strongest weapons in the game, whereas for the more casual & ease of use approach they aren't at the top, because the lack of range and strong Ash of War options makes them impractical to many players.
Rosus' Axe actually has a rly good INT scaling. Past the first softcap you definetly want to invest into INT. But you rly can go hybrid if you want also to use some spells, you won't lose too much AR. One of the few somber weapons you can actually do it without loosing a lot.
Storm hawk axe saved me a few times whipping it out quick, when getting beat up by imps. It's a great alternative if you don't have stormcaller equipped on another weapon
Hold on. The blood grease is easy to make. Bloodroses are bought from the merchant in Moghwyn palace, while root resin can be bought with a bell-bearing from DLC.
Side point about ice icerind, it's a dex weapon. No int needed to swing it, not sure how the skill works but if you want access to frost and an axe it's a decent option. Plus it swings pretty fast
No the Messmer Soldier Axe is not just niche. Its the best axe for charge attack builds. It has higher MV on Charged heavy attacks just like Alabaster Lords sword.
It only does about 2-3% more damage than a warped axe and that weapon is way better with light and skills which is more important with axes as you'll get higher DPS. Charged heavy builds are only useful if you have good stance damage which the axes unfortunately get straight sword stance. It does make the weapon better obviously and I did forget to mention it but it doesn't change the ranking much
Battle axe is the best weapon for rl1 wl0 runs without stat boosting, cause you can put lightning infusion on it, and it can do decent damage to status immune bosses
Honestly i wish that axes kept the ds2 moveset that was pretty fast and viable over what we got in ds3 and elden ring aside from just wanting to use them there just isn't much of a reason to.
@@terminally_phill3536 it’s almost as fast as a dagger in the off-hand but with much more posture/poise damage and attack damage. You can squeeze it into a lot of windows.
So the iron cleaver has a similar moveset to the stone club (apart from the charged heavy) and it gets more ash of war options. Which would you rather use out of the two?
It's very unique due to that incredible str scaling as well. It's one of the few infusable weapons that performs really well on hybrid builds (str/fth or str/int) due to retaining a great str bonus.
The Messmer Soldier Axe also has an innate charged heavy attack multiplier, at 80str heavy it deals more damage with the charged heavy than the warped axe.
buffs& heal spells (not regen) scale off your faith stat + the faith scaling of the seal youre using. The dragon communion aint ideal for heals or buffs, not the worst but still
Anyone else have hit-box issues using Messmer Soldier’s Axe against DLC Radahn? For some reason the hits don’t always connect even when you’re right on him.
when powerstancing, each axe does let's say X damage per hit. If the axes each hit individually, then the powerstance combo does X damage per hit. If both axes hit at the same time, then the powerstanced combo does 2X damage per hit.
Because there is less chance of missing with one weapon and the animations are longer because you have to wait for 2 attacks instead of 1 attack that hit with both weapons
Youwy is sooo funny "projectiles cheese the game you don't have to engage with enemies" 😂😂Are we playing the same game? Enemies don't care they just run you through and do everything in their power to kill you or drain your stamina 😅😅Even more so in the dlc where they never stop for a breather 😅

It doesn't really compensate for the rather large AR loss.
And annoyingly the heavy attacks from roar skills don’t get that bonus damage. If they did, it’d give another niche to that axe
"Hold on, let me axe you a question!" - axe weapon users, probably. 💪😏
Why the fuck is this so funny 🤣🤣🤣

For axes and greataxes its should be used with uncharged heavy and it works very well.
