I think by far the most important thing about this war is that it was suicide. Sure it's easy now a days to shout at the other country and claim the islands, but the most important thing is that a lot of men died because of a failing government's foolishness. Most of the Argentinean troops consisted of young men, around 18, that had been sent to fight a war, instead of finishing school or going to college. Over half of the ones that came back committed suicide. Think about it, an unstable country that's going downhill fast so they send young boys to their deaths, lie about the outcome of battles, so everyone forgets about how messed up the whole regime was. It's delirious. And I'm sure on the British side thing also weren't sunshine and rainbows. The original plan was to land troops, and call the US and UK to negotiate, even before the military government, there were talks about a Hong Kong style agreement in which the islands would be returned after 100 years. But when the military junta saw 2 million people on the streets celebrating they decided to go all in. All we are left with is no chance for cooperation, and both sides scared, for some of us (especially Argentineans, since conscription was obligatory) it's left a heavy mark on family and friends
Well to put it blunt on the british side (as a brit myself) it was a point of pride, we had just lost our empire, we had troubles and difficulties and alot thought we were done for now, that we would become a backwater, then the war happened and it brought back alot of pride, people view what the argies did in invading the island was pure desperation, a distraction from problems back home, the arguments for their claims being utterly laughable (i think greece trying to claim crimea as its rightful land since they colonised it in ancient times is more legit than the claims), the problem is the argentinian side sees it as almost manifest destinyt to take the islands, like its almost a cult/mental condition. This is a problem because now argentinia will forever be on the path of confrontation over the islands, islands that britain wont give up as it has become a symbol for us, if we were to lose it like hong kong or anything else it will be painful, so the unfortunate thing is, all it will take is another junta or desperate government in argentinia and then boom, falklands war 2.0.
you try to talk about something you think you know but you just say repeated fallacies over and over again. there are no arguments here. The Malvinas Islands are Argentine. I think its only fair if the people who live there have the choice of what nation they want to be in, and if they choose British well then let them be British.
Putin justifies his war in the same way, for me the best thing is that they return to England, the English only want that territory for strategy in possible wars, what matters to them are their interests and not opinion, if it were not like that, Scotland would be independent next year, but we all know it won't happen
If I recall correctly, there was a referendum on the island as to what nation they wanted to stay with. Around 2000 wanted to stay with Britain About 2 wanted to be with Argentina.

The Falklands were, are and will always be British. Literally the only time the Argentines claimed the Islands was in '82 which went amazing for them... As for amazing they lost their Cruiser, got smacked around by Harriers and then lost the island to a outnumbered British Force.
@@CanadianDolphinSurf I am not very souprised that you say that being Canadian. The Malvinas were never british. They actually invaded the islands in January 3rd, 1833 when those were under Argentinian control until 2 British ships arrived, bombed and landed troops to kick out the population there, and put their own people to live in, even when Argentina amd the UK had good relationships they did that. And Argentina has always reclaimed the island, in January 15th, 1833 the Argentinian government tried to talk and negotiate with the British. Even when the UN was created and Argentina incorporated, we started a reclamation internationaly and ask to the UK to attend to our reclamations. So, basicaly since the fucking british stole our islands we reclaimed them. Try studying some real history amd not the british propaganda
@@CanadianDolphinSurf And yes, we lost a Cruiser, we lost many aircraft by the Harriers and many troops. But how many ships did the British lose? How many supplies did they lost?

How did the British saw and felt the war? Again, try reading some real history books and not what the british or american or any ugly anglo-speaker says

And taught those cheeky Argies not to mess with us again!
[Chorus]
We stocked our ships full of British beer and bullets
We mobilised the navy and we called up the marines
We sailed two weeks 'til we reached the Falkland Islands
So we could teach a lesson to those bloody Argentines
All the local girls awaited when Britannia disembarked
He had a reputation and he liked to have a laugh
They covered him with kisses, they walked him in the grass
He said he never saw a better piece of British... Land
[Chorus]
We stocked our ships full of British beer and bullets
We mobilised the navy and we called up the marines
We sailed two weeks 'til we reached the Falkland Islands
So we could teach a lesson to those bloody Argentines
[Chorus]
We stocked our ships full of British beer and bullets
We mobilised the navy and we called up the marines
We sailed two weeks 'til we reached the South Atlantic
So we could teach a lesson to those bloody Argentines
Go on!
Clear out of It!
Go on back to La Pampas!
Go on!
Clear out!
Go on, you can't play bloody football either!
