So many great artists in this episode. Out of the final three they picked my least favorite but even that one was good.The painting with the purple in the beard was incredible. Do you think the quality or ability of the artists has diminished over the years of this show?
I would like to know the criteria to become a contestant on this program… It’s obvious that many are not trained artists. Things like composition, scale, figure drawing and portraiture techniques, and brush work are lacking. I do understand the time constraints make it difficult, but these foundational concepts should be there.
Imagine being so snobbish as to constantly du,p on realism and semi realism painting as uncreative. So stupid. Then they go out and get confused between good and bad expressionism or good or bad painterly… often thinking an artist’s shortcomings are intentional genius
Because full realism is indeed simpler.. anyone that ventured seriously in art know that is harder to simplify and make something look loose than to make super accurate realistic rendering. When you simplify you need to put a lot of your interpretation on it. There is a reason why John Singer Sargent is regarded as the greatest portraitist ever.. and he was an impressionist...
They are very talented artists, but I don't think they should allow iPad or other digital photos. It's much easier to do from photo than real life. Some artists aren't even looking at the model - just their photo.
From what they showed. You really think in those 4 hours they haven’t looked at the sitter? Also, that’s subjective, not objective. It can be easier for some people to draw from life instead of photos.
Lol No. The best one won. The objective of a portraiture is nto be the most beautiful, but to CAPTURE the personality of sitter WITH elements of the artist personality (That is why they ask for the self portrait before)

One of the rare episodes where all three of the top three were wonderful . But I would have picked the one with purple in the beard.

These (20 videos) are supposed to be in order but there are no dates and no indications of which comes first, which I think is really inconsiderate.
Liam painting was just horrendous. The best were by Ross, Connor and Liah.

No.. on an artistic view the objective is not look nicer.. but to better capture the person with a lot of the artist itself
