Lola Aronvitz Funny thing is parents only deny teen opinions that they don’t agree with. I think deep down most parents are just afraid of losing their power and control over their children. So they freak out inside when their kid isn’t “in line”.
And instead of trying to portray this as a "rebellious phase" (which it very well could be) they should be capable of having a respectful argument about it with their child
Teenagers often go through a "rebellious phase". This is where they develop a full degree of sentience and begin to form their own thoughts and opinions, which often conflict with those of their parents. This phase often ends when the teenager reaches adulthood and, though their views still conflict with their parents, they are too old for invalidating their opinions with the statement of their youth to appear even remotely reasonable.
"Kids need to lose. They need to fail. They need to get hurt, and they need to learn how to handle it on their own." THIS. Seriously this. Too many people out here can't even function in society because they had no idea how the real world works. It's not even ego all the time; sometimes they get depressed when reality hits because they're so use to winning and/or depending on others to help or save them.
I was a special needs kid but I didn't really grow until the helicoptering stopped. I learned more about life in three years on my own than the previous ten. I'm now independent, am doing well financially (A millenial with money, how odd) and have a productive niche in society. I needed hard knocks, not more books and schooling.
@Angelique rules! Old? I'm barely even 20. I don't control how you were/are raised. Some parents have a different idea of parenting and keep their children sheltered. Sometimes TOO sheltered. Judging by your response, I'm assuming you're also one who's too sheltered, which sucks. But don't attack me for how your dad raised you because I've got nothing to do with that. (Edit: spelling)
@@julianstudebaker1006 Good to hear you're doing well. I'm not special needs but I have relatives and acquaintances who are, so I see how sometimes overly protective people can be. You can't solely depend on family to survive because they won't/can't always be there and more families need to realize that.

You know, the Twittersphere and how powerful their voices can be. But, their voices are still a minority. Most Americans understand that minorities can be bigoted, too, including racist. In fact, even many SJWs still say minorities can be bigoted...just not RACIST. And of course, they can be racist, TOO.

Blood is thicker than water isn't actually about family before friends. The full phrase is "Blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb" So to say blood is thicker than water is to say you value the bonds you've made over the bonds you're born with.
Not all opinions are equal. Some people conjecture their opinions out of incorrect or incomplete information while better people either form opinions through research and education or avoid forming opinions for lack of verifiable information.
carrapaz Sure it is: people say it all the time, "everyone's entitled to their own opinions", and always in reference to some disagreement. @KrimsonKyriarch that IS high self esteem. Low self esteem is hating yourself for messing up even though you really didn't because you think you aren't good enough to deserve doing okay.
I disagree with the special education thing. Not many people understand this but it's not just autistic kids. I had to take one of those classes cuz I was behind and now I'm on my way to joining the Marine Corps. I would have dropped out if it weren't for that class.
Thank you! So many people need extra help, and picking and choosing who you think will be a contributing member to society actually allows so many talented, perfectly capable individuals to slip through the cracks.
I really hate it when somebody goes on America’s got talent, says something heartwarming like “I battled cancer”, or “ I was adopted by a single mom”, goes on stage and sucks, and gets to move on. Then the guy who actually has talent comes out without a sob story and gets buzzed off the stage. Pisses me off.
I detest any and all winners whose talent is singing a very popular and radio friendly genre of music. Literally every singing show is centered around what they do. I don't give a crap how nicely they sing Taylor Swift songs or strum a guitar, they will never be more deserving than an act that performs mind-blowing or dangerous feats perfectly and with infinitely more thought put into it than your average person picking up a karaoke CD. Also, that Grace kid from a few years ago only won because she was a kid. If she were an adult she wouldn't have been treated special with her mediocre music.
I remember first watching BGT but then instantly stopped loving it when I realised that all they did was golden buzzer five-year-olds who couldn't sing at all just so they didn't feel bad, and I remember watching the Matt Rose video where he mentioned going on there, so I watched the episode, and they were HORRIBLE TO HIM. But when i was given an extra push i found the strength and passion to pursue my own goals. Im straight As in all my college classes now without any help anymore, and in honors society. Mulan 2 is actually a good movie and deserves to be known as such Disney’s CGI movies are overplayed and honestly not very good (except Tangled), and they should go back to drawn animation. Pocahontis is a good movie, despite it being an inaccurate and bad portrayal of those characters. Cinderella isn’t about how everything goes right if you dream. It’s about having patience until you can get out of a situation. There should be more Disney movies centered around men. The Little Mermaid should not be black. If you want to give black people representation, make a new princess instead of changing the originals.
My unpopular Disney opinions -Whilst I miss Disney's hand drawn animation and wish they would make more, their CGI movies (for the most part) are just as enjoyable and I love them. -I don't mind Ariel being black. She's a damn mermaid. Yes! Why pay in for such community services if it sabotages the community instead of giving back? I feel a lot of people in jail just need therapy and possibly psychiatrists to integrate back in with atleast decent behavior. There are a lot of individuals that have been abused or undiagnosed that need help. Slap on community services and restrictive punishments like no liscence etc for a while and it will force the majority to reflect. That's just my oppinion, but I feel like jail is a one way ticket for a lot of low income individuals that probably already lived off government funded programs when young. As a 19-year old looking for work who likes to wear comfortable clothes and long hair, a good student, loyal to a fault, and with a work ethic instilled in me from a young age, a company's hiring decision should not be based off of age, perceptions of appearance, or lifestyle choices. Well depending on the job, they want people to perceive their company or business as one who hires clean cut people. @@promisnwekenta9703 yeah but theoretically that shouldn't matter if they only hire based on skill and attitude. And B: will they be able to do their work without issue and not cause any major problems for the rest of the team? Will they work well with others? 4:34 I've told my mom, if I die young, I want to be buried hollow. I'm a perfectly healthy person with nothing wrong with any of my organs. My lungs, heart liver, kidneys, etc could all save many lives. No reason for them to go to waste
As someone who requires special education (I have mild autism and ADHD), I'm on the fence about whether or not we are spending too much on those who will not contribute to society (which is not always the case). On one hand, my personal experience in the special education system (I went to a special boarding school for half my life, I'm 18 now) it was very poorly run. The staff were either very poorly trained, or they genuinely were there for the money. The amount of staff changes I'd seen in my class in just a year (many of us have trust issues and it's hard to have a teacher you trust leave and then be stuck with a stranger over and over) messed me up. Also, many of us would be physically restrained for simply not eating at lunch, or if we got frustrated in class due to the work at hand or another student antagonizing others while being given sarcy comments on how angry we were and I don't think a lot of training or recruitment was really well managed. On the other hand, is although I'm not a scholar by any means, I'm studying Criminology in college next year, despite my everyday struggles, so I do believe those who come from special education backgrounds (not just autism, physical and mental disabilities count too!) can contribute to society in a positive way. I also have volunteered as a musician and contributor for many charitable causes (Breast cancer, pride, my local hospice etc: not to humble brag) which most people think is stupid and I do get crap for it sometimes because I don't get paid for it at all and because I'm wasting my time on an unreachable goal. But there's something about seeing some people in their toughest times forget their struggles for just a moment and just seeing their face light up when they hear the music, as cringy as that sounds lol. Completely went off topic there for a moment, I just wanted to share my experience of the special care system during and after being in it. I guess my point is, yes, we do need a special education system since not everyone with special needs can adapt the same in a mainstream setting, but at the same time, not everyone in the special education system is useless to the world, some of us are really trying, through all the shit we deal with sometimes, and we are going to make the world a better place.

The poor experience with crappy teachers in the special education program is all too real for me. I have ADHD and bipolar so that was my reason for having an IEP, and I saw everything that happened in those special ed classrooms. Children with serious disabilities were terribly abused and it makes me so sad. I only had to take a study hall in a special ed room, and I had no other classes for kids enrolled in special ed, and I wasn't treated as poorly as most of them, but I have to say I was treated lesser than by both students and teachers. Luckily I decided to advocate for myself and explain that I didn't want an IEP anymore because I didn't think it was necessary for me to have, and my parents and teachers agreed so I am no longer in special ed. But yes, we can contribute so much more to society than many people think we can
"Completely went off topic there" ADD and me in a nutshell lol. I think they mean people who are severely challenged such as down syndrome etc. Though I understand the original oppinion it's not like we can just off people because they are inconvenient. First it would be cutting education aka any chances of them integrating or contributing to society and then what? What should be done with them in the end and then what group would be the next target? Challenged kids need more nurturing and without it they may not be able to cohabitate with non challenged people. Also I read that typically people with add are really good at emergency jobs like paramedics. I have add and I am great at data entry and detailed work despite occasionally drifting off to water plants, clean and make tea. I out perform my peers and do circles around them. I think people just have to learn how to use what they were given and work it.

5:45 this. so much this. i think the "gifted kids" phenomenon is a great example of this. kids who are labelled "gifted" in early childhood are praised for being ~so smart and talented and better than the rest of their peers~ because they have a good memory or whatever. so they breeze through elementary school never studying, getting straight a's on everything, top of the class - and then middle school, high school, college roll around and they find they're actually behind everyone else. they don't know how to study because they never needed to before - but now they do. they hit a roadblock because they don't have those skills that are required for success that their peers spent elementary school developing. maybe they're in advanced classes in school (i'm going into 10th grade and i'll be taking 11th grade chemistry and algebra 2) and their teachers put them on some kind of undeserved pedestal ("c'mon, why is nobody answering this question correctly - we've got _honors students_ in here!") when in reality, they're at the same level as everyone else in the class - they're just younger. their parents expect too much of them, because they're _honors students_ and they were _so smart in elementary school_ and they're _capable of doing better,_ except they're not, because nobody ever taught them the skills needed to do better. i hope all of this made sense, i was just venting my frustrations about being a former ~gifted kid~, lol
I am in college and top of the class, still due to the same good memory. I also go to all classes cuz i don't have a social life. It probably helps I don't study for engineer or something, but fashion technology. The purely theory parts are not that difficult and can be done with good memory, and the practical parts are actually a challenge, but we literally practice in class and it also interests me a lot, so this 'challenging yet not too difficult' part is simply exciting. If you're a gifted kid (I have iq of 130+ myself), try to find something to do with your hands that you LOVE so that's a little bit of a challenge but also genuine fun, and totally rock the theory parts of it. The most 'theory-ish' course I had in my first semester gave me the best marks, 17/20, the lowest was 14/20 which was a practical thing (pattern drafting) but something that really interests me cause I am skinny and borderline petite so knowing how to make dress patterns from scratch with my own measurements is amazing.

4:18 Ok motherfuckers its time you learned some overdue facts cuz this is annoying. The phrase is "blood of the covenant is thicker than water if the womb." The phrase LITERALLY means the opposite of what everyone seems to think it means. It means relationships formed by choice are stronger than those formed by blood. Also "Curiosity killed the cat, but discovery brought it back." Does not mean "dont be curious". It fucking means that Curiosity is a powerful thing and rewarding once sated. Thank you for coming to my ted talk.
I mean no disrepect here, I actually think it's cool that you shared the old definitions. But the meaning behind phrases changes in society. Just because an original saying has been misconstrued, doesn't mean that it's meaning is invalid. Blood has become synonymous with familial ties while water is chosen ties. This change isn't "wrong" or "terrible", because a society's current interpretation is what creates meaning, not the original interpretation. In this case, the original saying has lost it's meaning, so it is no longer recognizable or relevant, and it's old use would only cause misunderstanding now. These kinds of changes happen all the time within society. And I think that's actually really great and should never be labelled as "incorrect". Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
The whole "thoughts lead to actions" thing is just a lame excuse meant to justify a lack of self-control. Keeping your thoughts and feelings to yourself is easy, and nowhere near as bad for you as people say it is.
Jim Stoesz and sometimes you just think things you don’t mean to because that’s how brains work, you know? like sometimes i get real messed up intrusive thoughts that freak me out because they’re not things i want to think or do.
1.) Curse words dont matter, words have arbitrary meaning because we attach the meaning to it. Specific words shouldn't offend people, the intended meaning behind their use is what matters. 2.) america's 2 party system is stupid. 3.) Beliefs should never be tied to a person's self identity. 4.) Freedom of speech should be upheld in most situation, there are some where it is bad, but most of the time, we should not shut people speaking down. It is completely impossible to change people's minds without allowing conversation to occur. You also need to approach the conversation with the mindset that you might be wrong, that's okay, and that you will see whose belief makes more sense. Even if the conversation doesn't end in the other people admitting defeat, at least, on average, society's beliefs move towards reason. 5.) You should respect everyone as a human, but respect in terms of authority has to be earned. 6.) The dog vs. cat argument is stupid. 7.) All patriotism, regardless of country, is stupid. People pick what they use as a metric for a good country based on their country, and then brag about their country's greatness. Country greatness isn't important, citizen happiness and wellbeing is, though specific ranks using that as a metric don't matter. This has been my Ted talk, thank you for your time
I agree with everything except number 3. I think beliefs are always a part of your indentity. Its organized religion and labels that it works with that i cannot stand. 7. We could say its stupid, but people need that. They need to belong to a group, and it doesnt really matter if there is a reason other than "you dont belong to any of the other groups". Youre right that people cherry-pick the good about their country, but thats our nature as well. We dont want to compete in the negative aspects so we only talk about the good shit. Oh, and number 1 - they do matter, but i agree we shouldnt freak out over them. What i mean is, not using curse words is usually part of a larger thing, lets call it a dialect, which is the formal language. They just dont fit into formal speeches and communication. Also, i have an idea, instead of telling kids not to use curse words and punish them and so on, why dont we teach them how to use them properly and in the right context? They are gonna be saying ass fuck bitch for a little while, but then it will thin out and they will be able to use curse words moderately by age maybe 12-15, instead of around 20, as it is now.
Regarding number 3, I strongly disagree. Beliefs, particularly religious or political beliefs, are what help set people's morals or ethics. Morals and ethics are what guides a person to treat and/or mistreat other people who may be different than them in some way or another. For example, a person's religious beliefs might affect how they view and treat people different that them (race, sexuality, creed, etc.), a person's political beliefs affect how they view and treat people who have different political views with them (especially the constant American Republican vs Democrat, you disagree with me thus you're [insert slur here] that's very common in this political climate.) Beliefs are integral to a person's self identity. Regarding number 4, I'm glad you brought this up, and mostly I agree with it, except for that "some where it's bad" part. Freedom of speech, no matter how appalling the messages spread may be, is always, always, always an inherently good thing. Don't get me wrong, I'm not racist or bigoted, and I dislike hate speech as much as the next guy, but free speech is necessary for growth as a society and a culture. Once a government begins policing people on what can and cannot be said, that government has automatically, absolutely, and spectacularly failed as a government. Regarding number 5, I believe respect as a human can be lost as well. I agree with the sentiment that people should mostly be given respect as a person, and that authority must be earned. But when a person has committed a particularly heinous or egregious offense (murder, sex-related crimes, especially pedophilia), I lose respect of them as a human being, because they've committed an act that shows me they are willing to put their own selfish needs before that of another person. If they're willing to do that, why should I waste my respect on them?
I agree with the cussing thing, if I stub my toe and say fuck, it shouldn't matter, but if I'm telling someone to go fuck themselves, there's a problem because my intentions were not good
I honestly found most of these rather interesting, but the one about special education really pissed me off. I'm autistic and had to spend my entire school life with special education or I was going to fail and likely never get a job. The fact that dude has nerve to say that people like me are not worth the time and money put into making us functional members of society is a low fucking blow.
VishousCat It sucks that you're in that situation but you've kinda proved his point. Not saying this to hurt you, but there are other causes that money for special education could be used for, and those could help way more people. So, there's a case to be made for what he said. Again, I don't mean to offend. And like Isaac said above me, this IS a video about controversial opinions. Those tend to be controversial. I have many opinions way more controversial than these, so I was actually a bit disappointed.
Because gender is stupid. So, deconstructing the binary into a million different titles is a way of demonstrating the absurdity of the distinction itself. It's a step toward abolition.
Somerandomwizard It’s not, but it can be if calling that person “he” makes them feel dysphoric or uncomfortable in any way. It’s just basic human decency. If James asks to be called “Jim”, you do it, you don’t make a big issue about it, insisting on calling him “James”.
We should treat gay people as normal people and not call everyone "brave" for coming out (unless they're in an environment that would punish them for being gay) a lot of the gay people I meet are kinda narcissistic and tend to be more insensitive than straights and some people I know say they're bi as a scapegoat so they don't have to actually date the same gender.
I'm guessing the people who say they are bi (and are not) are queerbaiting. Straights who wanna be in the community and feel special but aren't gay. Kinda like "the gay best friend". I'm guessing gays in my opinion (as a gay with many gay friends) we just kinda have to be blunt. I have faced discrimination and hate and other things because I am gay. Because of the things I have faced I've realized that sometimes people need to face the truth. It's a hard world and you can't live in fantasy land. I also just as my personality don't really like sugar coating things. I wish I could be treated normal, but after the hate and discrimination it's hard
In an ideal world gay people wouldn’t be labelled as brave for coming out, but that just isn’t the case, there’s prejudice against lgbt+ in literally every part of the world, and openly accepting the fact that you can be discriminated against is such a courageous act.
@@cianparker2168 But the person said "not EVERYone". I'm not trying to be disrespectful but I'm bi (I'm more girl-leaning too) and have never experienced any discrimination that at least has effected me badly. That does create multiple problematic situations and opportunities for racists and rich elitists to exploit that system at the expense of the working class, however, the idea itself is a good one.

gender is not a spectrum. just because you don't like doing stereotypical "girly" things doesn't mean u need to start identifying as a trans man or whatever.
We need a woke movement for men. The role we're given in our economy is to push a boulder up a mountain forever; consequently, there is an unspoken epidemic of humiliation and hopelessness among men, and that feeling is the precondition that leads to suicides, drug abuse and mass shootings like the ones we had this weekend.
Men will never have the same privileges as women due to the sympathy gap between them. It is hardwired in our brains to value and sympathize with women and be mostly apathic towards men. So men will always be second class citizens as their problems will garner no sympathy to inspire change.
LogicalPoint Men are second class citizens in less ways than women are. I think when it comes to emotions and mental health they are put down more that women are.

@Rtkts one question. Have u ever been suicidal? If so than u probably know what's it's like having everyone hate you, and have to live your life in shame. at one point I nearly killed myself, and u know the thoughts that drove me to do this? It was that no one cares about me

5:55 "kids that get hurt a lot when they're young grow up to be practically invincible, because they learn how to do what they want to do without getting injured" My viciously abusive parents said this exact aphorism to me as if sexual abuse was making me stronger and inoculating me against the horrors of the world when all it really did was give me cPTSD and depression and anxiety. Don't believe a word of this post, the idea that If a child is harmed or hurt a lot (high frequency or high magnitude) and then are impervious to pain is just wrong and not reflected in reality.
I dont think the post actually meant what you are saying. I believe he meant to say that if a child gets mildly hurt by itself while doing some kind of activity the parent shouldnt rush to see if the kid is ok. Most of the times when that happens even if the kid is alright, seeing their parent rushing worried to them to ckeck if they are ok would actually make them cry (happened all the time with my little sister). Your case my friend was child abuse and whole different story. I hope you are doing better now.
@@Mpalikari There's a difference between a kid getting hurt, and a kid getting hurt a *lot*. This is why babies and toddlers engage in physical fighting and playing with their parents and by the age of about 4, they start to do the same with other children. It's just the process of a child getting comfortable in their own bodies, learning what they can and can't do, learning what hurts others. Physical play and exploration (and therefore pain) is part of their development and socialization. That may be what the comment intended to communicate, But not at all what it said. So it was worth pointing out in my opinion. They said that simply getting hurt is adequate for a child's development; and that it makes them 'invincible'; Both of these arguments are very wrong. And their line of reasoning has been used to justify really fucked up horrors against people and some really fucking dumb, unscientific ideas.

My opinion: Most parents are shit. It's not possible for just two people to properly raise a child. The setting of a typical modern family is a fairly new concept (Two parents, X amount of kids, no one else involved) - We'd have gone extinct long ago if we did this since the beginning. Historically, and even in plenty places around the world today, children were "raised by the village". This built up an array of skills, both practical and social, that two parents alone weren't able to teach, and increased general safety for everyone involved. The human's strongest ability was its skill to form societies, yet we're now in a world where children are raised with fear of the society around them, and their parents don't have the proper skillset and knowledge to teach them _everything_ they need to know, leaving most parents to figure it out as they go along. All it takes is 1 bad generation of parents (Abusive, poor financial decisions, etc) and the whole family line is fucked and flung in to a never-ending cycle of what curses them.
Parents today have more well founded reasons than parents of the past to fear their own society. We're living in times where if you share your parents social, political, or religious beliefs to any degree that it's fair game for others to openly ostracize or physically beat you. Like if your 13 year old had legitimate PERSONAL reasons to believe Trump or Obama was/is a good president, that other 13 year olds or older would literally SWARM their ass and leave them bloody. And what would adults do to the children that hurt that kid? Absolutely nothing, because the laws punish non-parental figures from beating their asses when they deserve it for hurting others. Not only that, pedophiles and serial killers exist. If I was a parent, I would not tell my kid to just openly trust anyone that came up to them. Children NEED to question and be mindful of strangers with bad intentions, and that falls on the parents to teach. I don't disagree with what you said, only that those times were EXTREMELY different and villages were forced to work together to survive. These days, anyone can pick up a job and find a place to live without fear of the harsh elements. Which leaves the only thing you have to fear, are other people with either fanatic and overzealous beliefs, or predators. And children CANNOT defend themselves from adults because they are weaker and less knowledgeable.
@@SeraphimDragon The vast majority of people who intend to harm a child are those closest to them. Statistically speaking, parents are the two most dangerous people in a child's life (They're more likely to murder, rape, abuse, emotionally harm, or neglect the child than any other person that the child will ever meet in their lifetime. You're lucky if you can make it to adulthood without some kind of trauma inflicted by parents). Teaching your children to be fearful of strangers doesn't decrease the likelihood that they'll be harmed by one - It's very easy for a genuine predator to bypass any defintions of stranger you can give to your child. Even so, they speak to strangers all the time. Aren't their teachers strangers at first? Friends at school? Parents of their friends? It's an ineffective concept with devastating effects on that person's ability to interact with society in the future. If you teach someone to grow up with a fear of the society they live in, they'll grow up socially awkward, socially inept. It's more likely that they'll grow up anti-social, having little empathy for those they've been brainwashed to believe are monsters - It's hard to feel bad for a stranger when you've been told all your life that strangers want to kill, rape and kidnap you. You pull communities apart by raising your children this way, ironically making them more dangerous. What you do is you lock children up in little "family bubbles" where they grow up learning the mistakes of their parents, to pass those down to their children when they grow up. This is backwards in terms of evolution. We evolved as a species that learns from eachother, yet we're purposely locking ourselves in these confined societal spaces, which limits our growth. People growing up believing every little thing their parents forced in to their skulls is a normal thing that happens in our society, and it _shouldn't_ be.
NomNomerz it’s not that there’s “only” 2 people that are raising a kid together that’s a problem, some kids barely have 1 parent raising them and it shows.

Honestly me too i was talking with my mom the other day and she told me that a certain college just opened for Special Education attendees, unless u have a mental disorder where u cant socialize properly but still able to retain the learning aspects, they should not go to college. In my opinion it just takes up spots for kids who are less financially blessed.
Many special ed kids do have the ability to succeed in life and contribute to society, its not the funding that going wrong in public schools, its the applying it. 1. Don't know how it is in every state but in Indiana, special ed kids don't get a diploma they get a 'certification of completion' and no, thats not just for kids who don't have 'learning capacity'. I am currently homeschooled and I get all A's, take honors level classes, etc., but occasionally (every few months or so) i get sick and spend a night in the hospital (the level of sick is essentially a few steps before keytotic coma, which isn't good) now in homeschool, its annoying but i work through a weekend or two and I'm caught up. However in a public school I would fall behind, and they have no flexibility in this to catch me up so my only option would be to get this 'certification of completion', that means i cant go to college and an employer could pay me sub-minimum wage (e.g., $1 per hour) and look good doing it. Now imagine a kid like me that doesn't have the ability to be homeschooled (parents won't/can't) and works hard as possible for their certification (while probably being treated like crap by their teachers and peers) just to become a dishwasher for $1 an hour and have abled people (who they are just as smart as and worked just as hard as) complain about it costing too much money to educate them and it being worthless because they can't contribute anything anyway 2. Back to the application, getting an IEP was a year long process just for teachers to completely disregard it. 3. How do you equate special ed colleges with taking away from poor kids?

I believe that even if your a teenager you can still have valid opinions and parents shouldn’t deny them outright.
Lola Aronvitz Funny thing is parents only deny teen opinions that they don’t agree with. I think deep down most parents are just afraid of losing their power and control over their children. So they freak out inside when their kid isn’t “in line”.
And instead of trying to portray this as a "rebellious phase" (which it very well could be) they should be capable of having a respectful argument about it with their child

lynn I totally agree with you
Teenagers often go through a "rebellious phase".

Ok motherfuckers its time you learned some overdue facts cuz this is annoying.
The phrase is "blood of the covenant is thicker than water if the womb."
The phrase LITERALLY means the opposite of what everyone seems to think it means. It means relationships formed by choice are stronger than those formed by blood.
Also
"Curiosity killed the cat, but discovery brought it back."
Does not mean "dont be curious".
It fucking means that Curiosity is a powerful thing and rewarding once sated.
Thank you for coming to my ted talk.
thank you!!

Most of the people who say "people are too stupid for democracy" wouldn't make the cut in a different system.
Your logic and reasoning is equivalent to a toddler drawing a picture of a sun with sunglasses.
Yup. All of this.
The new idea of what is gender is just a huge mess
I mean, you're not wrong, but I think that if someone identifies as someone of another gender, then it doesn't hurt me to use their preferred pronoun.
Because gender is stupid. So, deconstructing the binary into a million different titles is a way of demonstrating the absurdity of the distinction itself. It's a step toward abolition.
It annoys me so much to see how people react to genders. Saying ‘he’ isn’t dehumanizing, it’s more polite than saying ‘that human with a penis’

@@gircakes This is a problem that only exists in our modern nuclear family-oriented society. In a society that treats raising children like a project for everyone, it wouldn't matter if one or both parents left, there'd be a whole society ready to step up and fill in the space.
This is another reason why I'm never planning on having kids when I'm an adult.

I can see the point in the special education comment. Don't know if I agree under the current system. I wholeheartedly agree with the sociopath and family comments.
Democracy is not good but Republics are the best. A foundational, almost impossible to edit bill of rights, means that the authority of the mass is based on that core document. Its checked democracy. Its fair and its equal and even majorities are bound by basic responsibilities to others
They still have the same problems, popular positions are still vastly more influential than well reasoned ones and I'll remind you that the roman republic fell to it's own internal politics.

About the cake thing: that's the only reason I eat cake. I like the sponginess and hate the frosting. Angel food cake is amazing because it's super spongy, and tastes awesome without frosting. I have an extremely strong urge to eat a literal sponge though, so that might explain some stuff.

"The government shouldn't legislate romance"
And yet, somehow, domestic abuse and child abuse occurs all the time, because two people who fell in love at some point decided to have children, despite all of their own mental problems, and also because people choose to ignore it.
Is abuse only illegal when it's caught? Well, I mean, two people LUV each other so I guess it's fine for them to marry and have childen despite their own lack of mental health/money/intelligence et cetera (and yes, rich people count too- they probably all shouldn't be having children at all)
Not all mentally ill people/poor people/dumb people are bad parents.

I agree with this. We should just be equal every where and call it a day.
Yeah just have a people month every month and then be done with it. That way, no one gets praised or left out solely based on their race. There’s had people in every group so why celebrate the group itself and make it look like a perfect world
The thing is, to include white and Asian inventions alone would take up more than a month.

Tolerance is not a virtue.
Tolerance can be a virtue, but is not automatically one. Tolerating homosexuality? Good. Tolerating genocide? Not good. As with everything, it depends on the circumstances.
@@DraculaCronqvist To use your example of homosexuality. For that, ''tolerance'' is not the right word. What do you need to be tolerant about? Someone being a homosexual does not affect the lifestyle of others in any way. One does not have the right to judge anyone if they're not hurting anything or anyone.
However, if someone with for example religious motives tries to forcefully put through laws or regulations or policies that objectively hurt others. Then one should not be tolerant towards that.
