    Thanks for the video - just completed my sander rebuild including motor bearings.
    If anyone needs the info - the parts needed were:
    qty 2 6203z bearings (bore 17mm) (O.D. 40mm) (length 12mm)
    qty 2 6001z bearings (bore 12mm) (O.D. 28mm) (length 8mm)
    qty 2 sleeve bearings (bore 12mm) (O.D. 16mm) (length 14mm)
    on the sleeve bearings - I was able to use the shaft for the roller to pop the sleeves out. I was just purchase a tool and I thought it was worth a try. Easy clean popout - with no damage to the roller. probably could have popped them out with a dowel also...
    I had to purchase a pack of 5 on the sleeve bearings - so if someone needs some that definitely fit the sander...
    My part number on the sander is 113.226424

      @Bud Stephens The second set of bearings are for the roller assembly (shaft with the pulley / belt) . The third bearing sleeves are for the roller at the adjusting end of the belt sander assembly. The first bearings listed are for the motor.

Sounds like a crash the first couple seconds when I turn it on. Then smooths out ok but something needs help. I may need to replace my rollers. Where did you find your replacement parts? Particularly the rollers. Thank you!

    Excellent job. Don’t ever start the motor unless the sander base is sitting in it’s normal horizontal position. There is a gravity dependent relay in the back of the switch box that will burn the start windings in the motor out in very short order. Don’t ask me how I know.
    Also, I have never seen a bearing/bushing puller like that before. Can you please give us the brand name and where your friend got it?
    Thanks,
    Kevin

      @kevclar, I hope you see this, but I'd like to know how you fixed it? My sander was working fine until I took the sanding disc plate off for service last night. Suddenly the motor seems bogged down and it started to smoke. I immediately turned if off and I'm wondering if the motor is toast now. 3 years ago you might have been able to find a replacement motor, but they seem long gone now.

    I realize I'm a little late to the party but what the heck. I have the exact same sander with the same problem. I can't seem to figure out how to get the disk off of the shaft. The set screw is out but the disk won't come off. Any secrets or suggestions?

    • @GreatPlainsCraftsman
      @GreatPlainsCraftsman  5 лет назад

      It presses on. It may be stuck so try bracing it between some wood pieces on a vice and use a wood block to tap it out. Be sure the snap ring is out. If you mean the plastic gear for the belt I did not bother taking it off.

    Is there a replacement motor for the Craftsman 113226431 bench sander? I have been looking with no luck. One of the motor bearings locked up so I replaced the and now it wants to smoke and vibrate worse. Is there a substitute motor that could be used?

    • @GreatPlainsCraftsman
      @GreatPlainsCraftsman  5 лет назад +1

      I would presume so John. Take it out and go to your local supply house and cross reference a similar motor. Pay attention to how it mounts to the sander. May be more economical to find a different sander.

    • @Stubby0266
      @Stubby0266 5 лет назад

      @@GreatPlainsCraftsman I have done extensive searches online for replacement motors with no luck. If would most likely be cheaper to buy another one but seeing all the reviews on the ones on the market makes me nervous. This was a good machine for me for well over 10+ years. I think I could gut the motor and use the housing, to support the bearings and machine a V groove in the arbor, get a different motor and pulley and make my own setup. Would need a stand though, no problem there, but again, time is the other issue.

    This is a great video. I followed all of the steps to disassemble the same sander. I had three major problems: 1) I don't have a small bushing removal tool, and they are very expensive; 2) The bushings are not even identified on the parts diagram, and I don't have access to a machine shop; 3) Although I found the drum with the bushings already installed online, every place I checked indicated out of stock with no idea when they would be in stock again. I'll probably end up just buying a new sander. The hassle, at this point, does not seem worth it. Perhaps I will sell the remaining parts on eBay!

      On line for the drive belt and bearings. You could source the bearings locally just cross reference them at local bearing supply. The drive and tension pulley bushings had to get locally as well. E replacement parts had the bearings but may not now. Should just need to replace the bearings and bushings. Leave the plastic gear On the shaft, no need to try to pull it. Also try Sears parts direct. Google the sander model number and stuff will pop up.
